I have been as cavalier about JB’s job as anyone

Sounds like a great idea. Stay home. Don't buy tickets and don't make donations. Boycott the program. Tell the university that basketball isn't important to you.

Instead of having a "big time" program that averages 20,000 fans a game, we'll show the world (and the BoT) that we're just a "small time" program that's lucky to average 8-10,000 fans.

Then when it comes time to replace JB, we'll go shopping at the "small time" coaches store, because if we're only going to draw maybe 10,000 a game, that's all we're going to spend.

Small time fans will end up with the small time program they deserve.

to my chagrin, as I try to be a better person, but at halftime, he sounded like a man not long for the job he loves.
There was a sadness to his tone.

Is there a way to watch that? I’ve searched to see if I could find it

SU basketball isn’t the highlight of people’s winter anymore.

What gymnastics people do to put that mostly on the fans is up to them.

The program’s not exactly banked up good will the past few years. Eventually people go from upset to not caring. We’ve talked about this for years, im surprised people still expect 25,000 butts in the seats. I still go to the games but purposely dont listen to the post game presser.

If they were just bad fans you wouldn’t have seen cuse football averaging over 40,000 fans this year. Had 45000+ even after 3 straight L’s.

Apathy

The counter point to that is if they are just going to go with Red or Gmac or call Hop, they don't need any shopping expenses at all. JW doesn't even need to lift a finger to flip his rolodex.

There are plenty of fans that go good or bad. In fact enough that we still lead the nation in attendance. What we don’t get anymore is the casual fair weather fan.

George Washington died because medical science at the time suggested that removing his "bad blood" would eliminate the sickness. it left him too weak to survive what may have been just a common cold when it began.

You don't make a situation stronger by removing its source of strength. If the fans don't go to the games, the university has less money to spend on the program, the players have less encouragement and recruits - and potential coaches - are less impressed with the school as a possible destination.
Steve, this is a common practice in sports and society today. You force a short-term loss to bring change and hopefully long-term gain. College sports are a business now and attendance and revenue factor into decisions.

Its no different than when consumers threaten to boycott a business because of actions or comments made.

Even though it wasn't a "big" crowd, it was good crowd yesterday. Made pretty good noise appropriate to the occasion.

Yep. I go, Im sure you go and most in this thread. Its the inclusion of the casuals though that make us unique. The extra 5-10k makes a massive difference whether they’re real fans or not

It’s great having the option again. It was only one year with no fans, but that was a looooooong year.

Yes, it will be our fault. The people not supporting a sub standard product aren’t to blame.

His pressers are getting worse and worse. Doesn’t even let mike and Donna finish a question before he talks over them. I find it completely childish behavior. Ok, questions are in game decisions. and second guessing suck, but for the most part our beat reporters are tame and ask softball questions
Since we have been mediocre he has been like this

Not in sports, it isn't. The most successful programs have the most loyal fan bases, not ones that boycott the games if they don't like the coach.

It’s not doing anything productive. He’s leaving when he’s leaving regardless. Seems like it’s this year.

If you want to go have fun at the game and support the team, then go. If you don’t, then don’t. This take that you’re really accomplishing something productive and proving a point by not going is misguided here, IMO. This just isn’t that type of situation.
I don’t think anyone is refusing to go out of spite. I just think the product has become so stale that people can’t justify the expense when there are plenty of other ways to spend hundreds of discretionary dollars.

The difference is those other successful programs wouldn’t give the kind of rope this administration has given. Would K have lasted more than a couple years at duke with these results?

Bingo. Don’t know why it’s so hard for some to recognize that.

Hopefully the fans will rediscover their interest if a new coach can turn things around. My fear is the portal/NIL will make it a lot harder to get invested in particular players. The coaching staff has to be a grand slam home run.

I wish we could get those Colgate, Bryant and SJU games back because the team is starting to look like a well coached and coherent team. The team that played yesterday would win those games easily.
I totally agree with you with a touch of apprehension. The key word is "starting"! The team has been slowly building and little by little the freshmen are starting to do more right than wrong. Though Benny is a sophomore, his first year never left the starting gates. Jesse, Joe and Sy bring the experience and Jon Bol makes it all go! Now we need to bring the consistency of the last few games every night, but without the slow starts. I too wish we could get those early games back but we needed to stumble through them to learn and grow. Last, but not least, the coaching staff needs to be recognized for the growth of this team. Lets Go Orange!!

I don't think they would be easy, but I can see us winning them now. What's important is to win the games we haven't played yet.

And to put the ball in the basket!

By George, I think she's got it!

I think Saturday was the first game some of you have watched this season. The students have already been gone multiple games around Thanksgiving.

Saturday's game was the most attended game this season.

And we typically have never drawn that well for directional state teams even when we were winning 30 games a year from 2009-2014.

I'm sorry, but who, exactly, is boycotting the games? People in general are less likely to go out to see an inferior game, movie, you name it.

You just get out of the habit of going. You may be lured back when the team improves. Nobody is obligated to go out to watch an inferior product. That's why attendance is less, not due to some boycott that I don't think exists.

And doesn’t Robin Williams look like Kevin Kline? It’s amazing what a mustache will do!
