I love this board, I really do. I love this football program with a passion. I just cannot read the spew being tossed around. Do most of you have solid points? Yes, certainly. There is also some flat out nonsense and bipolar diatribes. I just cannot read anymore of the negativity. If some of you don't want to watch anymore, don't. If you don't want to go to the games anymore, don't. I got too much invested emotionally into this football team to allow my eyes to bleed while reading this board. I'm going radio silent for a bit until things hopefully calm down after a win this weekend. Yep, a win against Pitt.

This is a young team and if it weren't for the mistakes, we could be 4-2 easily. That game against UVA was ours and we let it slip away. I understand the anger towards Shaf and his staff, but the players need to make plays as well. That Zaire facemask is not on the coaches. The goal-line situations in the 1st quarter make no sense to me. Why they weren't over center says something about either Emerich or Dungey. If not, no clue. The 3 TO's remaining and not using any of them is absurd especially when we were moving the ball well. Yaddy yaddy yah.

Either way, we lost and of course the number of "fire Shafer" picketers is growing quickly. It blows, but it is what it is. I'll leave the negativity to the rest of you.

There are still 6 games left and we need to win 3 of them. Tough challenge for this young team? yes, but it's not freaking impossible. Have you seen BC, NC St and Louisville? Pitt isn't a frigging titan either.

See you diehards at the Pitt game. I'll be that lunatic guzzling beer and screaming his ass off. We're about to knock off a Top 25 team and get back on track.

LGO.

Thanks Rocco, well said. Whiners going to whine don't listen to the lost. Go Orange !!!!! I'm screaming with you from 301

Agree 100% Rocco. I think the internet in general allows people to express themselves in ways they never would in the "real world."

Free country, everyone's entitled to their opinion and can be whatever type of fan they want. That said, I'll never understand that attitude when this is a hobby that is supposed to bring enjoyment.

Some people expect this team to win every game. The fact is, the last two weeks we've matched up against 2 peer programs and come up just short, and both games can be attributable to bad mistakes or penalties when it mattered most...something one can expect from an incredibly young team.

I for one see a big glimmer of hope in the young talent we have here and what the next few years can bring with experience under their belt and recruiting clearly on the uptick. Those that want Shafer gone are misguided in my opinion. Who are we going to bring in that's any better? This is not a destination job. Why take our lumps this year when we're clearly building towards the next 2 to 3 years and then blow it up and start from zero? It's just silly.

I'm completely numb to syracuse football that I don't get nearly as emotionally invested as my other teams/as much as others do

I got home yesterday after 16 hours in the car with my wife and two boys. You know what? We had a great weekend making memories at the tailgate. We came up just short in the game. My youngest son hates Auld Lang Syne. He sang, "Nobody likes your song," to the tune for a good part of the way home.

But I digress. What really has changed? This team has proven it will be in every game. We said that a month ago. It's been five straight barn burners - all one possession games in the fourth quarter.

I get it. Go be frustrated. But don't miss the forest for the trees. Things are still trending upward. This is no time to blow it up.

Great post, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. IMO you have to give HCSS at least another year. this is a young team that needs to learn how to win and close out games. We are six games into a new offense, we have a good upgrade in talent with more to come, the long term view is brighter than it has been in the last decade IMO. So should we get rid of the guy and the staff? Who would want to come here? Sure it's a P5 job but there would be a ton of red flags for any new coach who takes the job. Let's see how the season shakes out, see what Type of investment SU provides the FB program, see what changes are coming to the Dome. I'm not jumping off the HCSS bandwagon yet, I'll be at the game rooting for the Cuse, supporting the team because those kids deserve it.

Unless the wheels completely fall off I would like to see what lester's offense will do with another year of refining schemes and more experienced players. On the defensive side I believe that players will get better and Shafer and Bullough will make adjustments to hide our deficiencies. The secondary can't be worse next year, right? Our linebackers should be better and our DL as well.

I haven't looked at our schedule yet next year but I know our peer NE teams BC and Pitt will both be on the road so that will be a challenge.

The board's really not that bad.
I guess some of the the comments deleted by the administrators might present a different view?

On another note, a lot of fans want SU to succeed so much that it becomes such a let down that they need to release their angst by making negative comments. When SU does well it's "we win!" when not so well, it's "they lost!". It's human nature and an inate way to deal with a failure to meet expectations. On a positive note, these fans are really invested in SU FB and because of this their reactions are commensurate. I think the blame placing allows them to continue emotionally supporting the program as opposed to being indifferent as to what happens. When good things happen most of these naysayers will be happy as hell. More than the casual SU so called fan.

Note, I said most, not all!

I am bipolar w my posts and I admit it. Acceptance is the first step right?

I am also just in need of a place that I can release some steam about a product that no one that is in my life cares about. Everyone who was a Syracuse fan (casually) has sworn them off (wife, college friends, etc). A few will talk about it in a joking manner so it takes a toll being a fan of this team.

I just frankly have seen enough in the past 20 years to break me w regards to the direction of the team. I started watching in the early 90s and those teams were FEARED by the big programs b/c they were unpredictable, came to play, were unique, and had athletes everywhere. We suffered the What losses back then (East Carolina anyone?) but i never felt like there was a game that was circled as an automatic loss.

Anyway, I hear your points and accept that because I'm getting dangerously close to becoming a more casual fan than one who is so invested that I need to run to a message board to relieve my Syracuse stress. :)

I'm sure deleted comments do represent a different view. But they get to those pretty quickly, so you've really got to be a hawk on the board to read them, and I think most posters here can separate real posts from the riff raff.

I feel your pain Rocco. I was with a bunch of people watching the game at Blarney Stone, my brothers and I got that sinking feeling watching UVA's long drive at the end of regulation. It was a hard fought game, hard on the team and hard on the fans. When we win our next game the victory will be all that much sweeter.

I thought it was fitting when I got in the car 10 Years Gone by Led Zeppelin was playing.

Rocco, you're a great poster and I LOVE your passion, but announcing your "taking a break" is what teenage girls do on Facebook. We need your enthusiasm this week, please stick around.

Teams need both types of fans and I agree with OIG, this board isn't that bad at all. Try reading a Bills/Knicks message board this past decade.. This place will seem like sunshine and rainbows.

We need the fans who support no matter what and we need the fans who vocally dissent and question. SEC, B1G, FSU/Clemson fans are obsessive about college football and because of that, won't allow a coach to roam the sidelines who makes gigantic coaching blunders every game and has a team that seemingly can't beat their peer teams let alone upset someone. This is where I am with Shafer. Never liked him as a HC to begin with so i'll admit, my judgment is clouded by that but a game like Saturday is so unbelievably concerning. We should have won that game, yet we lost, to a peer opponent, again. Why are there multiple coaching decisions of his that I have to go bug eyed at when watching the game...every game?

I thought we had that game locked up when Dungey high jumped into the end zone. I thought we turned the corner and USF was a blip but, here we are on Monday, and we're the same team we've been.

Future looks brighter than it is with the young talent but we seem to only ever look at Syracuse in a vacuum without realizing the ACC recruits at a way higher rate than product on the field demonstrates lately and we still aren't on par with that... the weakened product or the recruiting prowess.

We have middle of the pack talent that performs at or below that level with a rah-rah coach who seems to lack actual coaching ability. I'm torn on giving Shafer another year because I really do think we're on the cusp of turning it around, but we've been on that cusp for a minute and I have serious doubts that he can get us to actually "turn" that corner.

It's just a message board. If it bothers you to read it, then don't read it. Life is too short.

Is it negative? Of course. EVERY sports message board gets negative when their team is losing. Every fan base has an element that think the solution to every problem is to fire the coach. Every single one.

Is this place exceedingly negative? No, not really. Go visit a Michigan board today. Or Florida. I'm sure Cubs boards are all high-fives and back slaps. And Blue Jays boards. I certainly think it's all unicorns at roses and the Chicago Bears board right now. Chargers too.

Personally, I get frustrated during the games, and get over it immediately. This program has worn me to a nub. It's hard to get passionate about it anymore. if you can, great, enjoy the tailgates and the games. And don't worry what some anonymous person posts on the Internet.

As a glutton for punishment Browns fan as well...these continual near misses are a bewildering & painful horror show. Quoting a once beloved Browns player, "we almost always almost win." Wash, rinse...repeat. :(:bat:

Whatever.

It's your own fault for setting the bar so high with your prediction of an undefeated season and national championship...
