I ride with Dino...

I still believe in Dino. But an early show on O to start next year and I think I'll lose all faith. The problem is I don't think SU pulls the trigger. It would take a complete disaster fro Dino to not get a 7th year. Hopefully next year is a decent year and we can all look back and laugh at this season.

But my concern for Wildhack is this becoming a major issue next year if we start the season 1-4 or something. I wonder if he’s savvy enough to start collecting data on guys who would be on a short list if they have to pull the plug mid season. It’s imperative we start strong or else we have to cut bait pronto so the school isn’t caught offsides aka 2005 when we hired a guy well into a recruiting cycle.

JW doesn’t just have a list.

He’s got people that he “never had this conversation with.”

And an idea of people should something with Babers, Boeheim, Hillman and Desko happen.

And he has a process and the press statement prepared.

But he would not fire a coach mid season. Nope. And it doesn’t matter because things get into motion outside the public eye.

All that said, Babers can rise to the challenge. You cannot dismiss a coach in this climate, based on the exceptional circumstances and the buyout. Let’s see what happens next year.

Unrelated...Sean Lewis has turned water into wine at Kent State.

For years JW led multi-billion dollar negotiations with all of the major pro leagues and top college conferences. But prepping to replace a football coach is beyond him, apparently. Oy.

2018 == 2016 final four

Solid comparison IMO. However, JB also had a long sustained proven track record of success at the helm. Dino, on the other hand, not even close to being in the same ball park in that regard.

An entire season is comparable to four games?

Oh I agree! when I say does he have a list I’m really trying to say, is he going to do the dirty part of the job which is send out feelers to see who would be in position to take over if this gets ugly. When I talk ugly I’m talking loss to Ohio and Rutgers out of the shoot (1st two games).

I have no doubt JW has a list but w Syracuse it has to be gettable guys who will be ready to roll. Like does anyone think if marrone is fired he would reach out in say January to “touch base.” Or see if Billy O’Brien wants to have “lunch” or grab a pitta w Hackett.

I really like Dino and hope we go 4-0 to start and roll to a 8-4 esque season. But the alternative will involve money and being rather cut throat

he’s not getting fired. It’s illogical for 100 reasons

I just wonder the end game if we start slow and how Wildhack handles it.

Its illogical to keep him. Team has regressed, he has recruited poor talent, gave up on team early this year by not using his TOs, got beat by freaking liberty, we are one of worst power 5 teams and not to mention the Culpepper fiasco yesterday is cause of terrible coaching

Love Dino the guy. Really don’t believe in Dino the coach. How can you ? His acc wins are 2,2,6,2,1. It’s amazing how such a great year is going to be the downfall of the program for years to come (from the extension)
And it was 10000000% worth it

You honestly can't connect the dots here? Okay, I'll do my best here relative to the 101 logic. :)

We had a remarkable and unexpected run to the FF in 2016 under JB, after a season a mediocrity. We also had a few seasons of mediocrity prior to the 2016 run. Dino, on the other hand hasn't even had seasons of mediocrity, but below it. He's only had one lone season of above mediocrity, which no doubt was superb. Hence, the 2018 = 2016 analogy. I think the relation is solid and quite obvious, but simply added that JB, however, with his recent run of mediocrity, has had far more success to pull from in his history of sustained success. Dino, not so much.

There is a thin line between winning and losing. I think it’s more likely that we’re in the .500 range with a good shot at a bowl next year. This year was an outlier in so many ways.
Cuse are going to go 1-10 with the best quarterback on the team being Tommy Devito... Don’t see where the 6 wins come from.

I mean in a normal season last year the team was not a bowl team either.

Uncharted waters means we have not dealt with this large of a buyout before...ever. We will find out whether Syracuse has the means and fortitude to pull the trigger on a high end buyout for a private entity. If you operate on the premise that his $15m buyout in 21 drops to $10m in 22 and you add in $5m to $6m for new HC and staff that is not a small outlay. This is new territory for them.
The comp for the current staff offsets the $5-6m, unless you’re suggesting we’d pay that much more. No offset for the buyout.

We were 1 win away last year.

I think it’s more likely next years team is around .500 than anything else.

You are worried about a guy performing as an AD who was one of the major players in a company that revolutionized the business of sports and the way we watch and think about sports? It's hard to imagine that Wildhack does not have networking and consultation access to some of the greatest minds in sports, finance, and business, as well as other ADs and commissioners throughout the country. It's even harder to imagine that he does not have contingency plans in place for all aspects of his department, including a comprehensive analysis of the ramifications of those contingencies, both pro and con.

You can cross this worry off your list. We are in good hands.

It’ll be his first hire in major college athletics so I’m justifiably curious about how he goes about it and who he leans on to help make the decision. To me the guys who were successful in early 90s would be a good start as to how that worked so well.

Gottcha now. I was referencing your initial concern that JW might not be "savvy enough to start collecting data." I am also curious about the process he will use, but I am sure it will be well thought out and objective.

On the money thing and buyouts, people keep intimating that it won't work because SU is generally poor when it comes to this stuff.

But they're not mentioning how much we lost this year in ticket sales? What do you think we clear for a 7 game season in tickets, parking, concessions, etc.? We still had some Dome costs, just not all of them. Didn't have to stock with food/beverage, didn't have to pay the concession workers or ushers. But had to turn the lights on and pay the staff that keeps everything else going.

JW needs to have a heart to heart with Dino. Stop watching movies and pound the portal hardddd!!! Trim your dead weight and bring in some beef. Some lineman and a quarterback and skill guy defenses need to game plan for. Enough messing around. Pound it and pound it hard.

ps he also needs to step up his in game coaching. Wasting timeouts and not managing the clock need to be fireable offenses going forward
