I hope the ACC comes to its senses and tries to get into NYC sooner rather than later...
You made good time. The ACC Tournament was something I watched on Friday afternoons before taking the 20 minute walk to the Blarney from Tudor City for our semi final game.
You are so right. Although my entire arm still hurts from nycfan's high fives. The BET was the BEST! Will never be duplicated.
Junior's is in Brooklyn. That alone is worth the trip.I have yet to go to the Barclay Center for any event, shame on me. MSG I can walk to, but even so Barclay's is a pretty easy train ride away. I understand the venue itself is very nice, certainly comparable to the spruced up MSG. As for dining/drinking in the area, my guess is the longer it's there the more the choices will expand. The surrounding neighborhoods. like Fort Greene, are already very gentrified. Brooklyn Heights, a stop or two away, or maybe a 15 minute walk at a guy's pace, always has been THE prestigious neighborhood in the borough.
As for traveling, a good dozen trains stop at either the Atlantic Av or Pacific St stops which interconnect, plus the LIRR. It's better than Yankee Stadium and definitely Citi Field in that regard. Parking is likely a pain though.
Brian Orange said:Hate to be that guy where everything back in the day was better and you never let it go, but that's how I feel here. The Big East tournament was simply the best. It literally can never be brought back to how it was before. The buzz around MSG, before the game at Blarney, going there after a big win, then doing it the next day, then the next day. Just awesome. People on the streets. It was truly the best.
I actually sneaky think DC will be a better spot than Brooklyn. Plenty of bars to walk to before and after the game, central location. Brooklyn is good for one reason - it's in New York. But the only time I've been there I didn't see too many bars, etc. I'm sure they are there but not like MSG or even DC.I'm sure you can get a good ticket for the current BE lineup. The only people who should miss it are UConn people.
Lots of people are talking about the tournament in DC, lots of powerhouse programs, central location, fans and alumni of most of the schools well represented here.

You can be the guy. It's okay.
But it's sad to think there will never be a conference tourney as good -- in anyone's lifetime.

Bayside.
Really?
I'm talking about the old Big East tourney.
Stop trying to prop up the tourney in DC. But, really, makes sense if it stays there. Might as well. No sense trying to copy the old BE tourney. Can't be done. Trust me.
I'll give you some props. We all know that nothing beats the old Big East. Looie, Rollie, Big John, Boeheim. Those were the best and there is only one Big Apple and a lot of the schools were within a decent driving distance. However, in due time, the ACCT could rival the BET. They just need to figure out where it's going to end up. I'm not a big fan of moving the tourney around.I've been going to the Big East tournament since I was a kid - since I was cheering Chris Mullin and Walter Berry.
You guys are whining in the face of the best basketball going these days.
What I do miss are 3 and 4 year guys making a better game.
But I am damned thrilled SU sports is in a place to thrive moving forward.
if they don't move it around it's likely to stay in the south rather than NYC. The old big east was pretty much within 5 hours of NYC so it made sense to play there. The ACC is more spread out and still predominant southern although that is obviously changing. I like the idea of different venues in this circumstance.I'll give you some props. That Queens to DC commute is a piece o cake thoughDC is a great location. And the bar SU fans decide to take over won't be a rat trap.
As a Queens guy Brooklyn is a hassle.

my best friend went with me, and we usually stayed with my 2nd best buddy
After the games, at the Blarney or Stout, everyone is your 3rd best buddy. Were you able to meet up with your 3rd best buddy after the game for a drink?
