From Colon's own mouth:

"I’m going to release my top five in June and will commit on November 6, my senior night,” Colon said. “That (winning) school has got to have that family feel with the players and the coaching staff where I can fall back on my teammates just in case something happens. I’ve got to have that vibe from the fan base, the atmosphere there and the academic programs. Somewhere I can excel and fall back on in case I don’t continue my football career at the next level, my degree will mean something.”

So does DM get credit for SS's 2013 season. All those kids were DM recruits and he went 7-6. SS still has a lot to prove or he would been extended already.

"Lot to prove" is miles from "deserves to be fired", IMO.

So, I would assume that you're not a fan of what Shafer and his staff did with the D during the "Marrone Era"?

I was a fan of what he did with the D. I like the D alot but sometimes a D coordinator isn't good as a HC.

Rod Rust took over the Patriots and was considered a top D coach. He was by far the worst HC i've seen in the NFL. My entire point, and i like everything Shafer shows me Sunday--Friday. I just want to see more wins on Saturday. We're trending downward. If you can't see that I don't know what to say. He took over a better team and it's gotten worse. I'll gladly wear yolk on my face if he turns it around this year and gets us 9 wins. I'm HOPING for that. Just saying if we are in the 4 win range, they need to think about changing it again.

Luckily the negative people here don't believe in Twitter. Just have to hope a parent stumbles into the recruiting side 1st. Much more hopeful over there ;).

Plenty of blame to go around (cough, McDonald, cough) - but I'd be inclined to believe losing your NFL bound QB and OC - with not much at all at QB (and I'm pulling for Hunt) and many of his other recruiting classes not being that strong AND leaving at a bad time (losing a bunch of decent recruits at the last minute) - had a lot to do with it.

Belicheck was a DC too. Bet Cleveland wishes they gave him more time.

I realize that you have a different investment in this coaching staff, but you also need to understand that Syracuse football fans haven't had a ton to cheer for in a long time. We've been incredibly patient and frankly many can't stand for two straight years without a bowl game, even if it's "unfair" to the coaches. Not to be rude, but anything short of 6 wins this year and I'll ready to turn the page.

Poor answer, but just my opinion

Twitter is becoming a very powerful tool for recruiting. The positive interaction with fans on Twitter is impacting recruits more than I think a lot of people realize.

if you think the new ad isnt going to go over film of the coach's he is hired to oversee - i think you may have missed a memo or 2-dont forget how wonderful we looked the first game last year -started the season as it was ended - a total cluster fudge

its his job to get the most out of the program- and if that initials getting his own man as head football coach- so be it-

2015 will be HCSS third year as head coach. His recruiting classes are 2014 and 2015. Obviously, 2015 hasn't even seen the field, and most of the 2014 class was probably red-shirted. Shafer hasn't even had a chance yet to field HIS team, with HIS recruits. Maybe we should be a bit more patient and see how things pan out.
You probably didn't want to fire Greg Robinson either and wanted to give him more time too

People who think Shafer should get more time if he has 3 seasons where he made one bowl game (on the final play) would be accepting mediocrity (or worse). I'm saying that not making a bowl game and not showing demonstrated offensive improvement should signal time for a change.

Of course I am speaking in terms of what-if scenario, isn't that the point of this thread? When is a reasonable time frame to admit that you might be able to do better? How long does a coach need to get for his staff, his system, his recruits, to produce results against a realistic schedule?
If this upcoming season is like last season (and looking at the schedule and talent on the roster is highly likely) he's gone. 3 wins or less and he is toast. 4 wins and he is probably gone

Didn't have enough time with his recruits. Should have been given an extension because changing coaches doesn't help a program grow.

Sigh. I'm guessing he wasn't following Syracuse football then - busy raising his stud DT (a 2015 recruit for us who turned down Florida and SEC to play here ...)

Big difference between the cliff we fell of with Robinson and the 7-6, 3-9 seasons of SS.

You have no earthly idea of what you're talking about. Do you have an inside source? Know the new AD before he's hired?

All coaches have one of those on there resume. Including Saint Doug, Coach Mac, etc. If the AD makes that one game the basis for evaluation we hired the wrong person.

Do you? LOL

It works both ways!

Nope. But we do have precedent at Syracuse. And it's not to fire a guy before his contract is up. Especially one who won a bowl game. If people could just separate the years of angst prior to SS from his two years this board would be so much more patient.

The landscape has changed. The world of college sports have changed. And the people running Syracuse NOW weren't the runs running it before. We will see who is right and wrong. I think a 2 or 3 win season he is gone no matter what. If he wins 4 or more he is probably safe. These posts are all archived we can revisit this is in December

Have no clue who he is, nor do I care. I am not in the least concerned with coaches from the past and how well or crappy they performed. My sole concern is the here and now. It's too early to judge his performance as head coach, but I believe, given what we know concerning the defense, that he rates more consideration than what some of you whining !@#$# are willing to give.

Sounds good. Top 40 recruiting class and 7 wins is my bet.
