Eh it’s more that people are just being civil about things on here while still being incredibly pissed off about this hire. Not against Gerry just in that there was a strong expectation we would move away from former SU coaches and it’s hard to have an ounce of faith in anything around the program no matter what anyone says until there’s real proof it was a good call. It’s fair game and reasonable given how much being an SU fan has sucked of late. I can’t blame anyone for locking onto all things that might point to further disappointment at this juncture.

I will say this - that's pretty good value for three spots. Likely less than $1M for all of them.

The recruiter is really the GM. It’s no longer the assistants. He’s looking for someone with grass roots and agent contacts per his interview today.

Right, which in a way kinda proves my point. You recruit the agent more than the player in today’s system.

Head Coach is the CEO of the program and has to be “good cop” a lot more day to day than they used to. Assistants serve analytical, scouting, skill development, and yes a little bit of personal relationships (but much much less). It’s way less of HC is bad cop and AC’s are good cops.

And finally, GM is the person who gets the players, or at least develops relationships with agents and then provides CEO w options (HC).

Coaches like Roy Williams, Coach K, etc didn’t leave simply just because of NIL or transfer portal. They left because the system they knew their entire professional careers were completely destroyed and rebuilt in a different functioning way right at the blink of their eyes. And they had no clue (or desire) to learn how to handle it.

At the levels we want to play at everyone has money and in a lot of cases more. Money is table stakes at the level we are at... There needs to be more. Do we really think Fran is out bidding everyone for talent on the football side or is he using his connections and his personality to get into the conversations? Do we really think that Donnie signed with Autry because we paid the most money to him or is it because he had a relationship with Straughan?

If all it took was money why was/is everyone so pissed that we lost BH? We are arguably getting much more NIL with GMAC than BH... so GMAC should get better recruiting classes than BH would have right? Does everyone believe that will actually happen?

For better or worse people and relationships still matter... GMAC needs to find someone who has the connections and is willing to play the game and get down and dirty into the mud to get recruits.

Dropping in to say I agree. We want to go after top of the line transfers. All the top schools want them. They all have money too. Sometimes we will pay more and land them for that reason. Many times we will pay the same or less. We need to give another reason for them to choose Cuse. It’s not like we’re the only ones aware we can pay them.

I changed it for you. Don't forget that Cuse is not competing with just ACC schools, but also competing against the SEC, the B1G, and the Big 12.

As sad as it is to say, $12 Million (if that's the number) only goes so far.

People are writing down Dylan Mingo's name like Cuse is the only school out there. But Cuse is also competing with other programs that have a $20 million, or more, war chest.

It's a dog eat dog world and hopefully GMAC is able to bring enough milk bones to the table.
