I trust Fran

6 or 7 wins without Kyle would be a great season. Since then SU has lost Peña, J Reed, Wohlabaugh, Marcellus Barnes, and Watson.
Peña’s concern about Collins doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
I am not impressed with the portal additions.
That being said I think three or four additions would push me back towards 6 wins. Have to find a center, linebacker and a corner. Defensive tackle maybe too.
Those guys even combined aren’t the difference between 6 and 4 wins

Are you clairvoyant and know how good the team is right now and will be this year ?
Nope.

Just another knucklehead on Syrfan.com. But I also acknowledge the losses and a new qb who I view as high potential but still a massive project. Let alone the defense has a ton to prove this year starting with the play caller there, the Barron and Wax losses itself to me might make the defense, worse.

I’m totally cool with a major step back this year. The year after I think things are going to be exciting but again idk, just speculating. Full faith in Fran.

No they’re not, I agree. But the lack of impact additions, loss of kicker?, and a wr questioning the quarterback room plus those losses make me lean more towards 4 wins.
I understand Fran is going to try and add more players. I hope they are high quality additions.
I love Fran and think he is perfect for this job. Next season might be a tough one though.

I hope so I love Fran don’t get me wrong but losing our top receiver like this I hope this isn’t the trend moving forward. Only way to make NIL sustainable is to keep winning

If you’re more upset about losing a 6th year slot receiver than a Freshman All American DT, then idk what to tell you.

Adds is a different issue.

I wish I had a billion dollars so I could blow it trolling teams. Pay Penn States whole starting Oline “I got a 5 million dollar NIL deal for you for next year. Only problem is you can’t play for any college team in PA. You can go and play for literally ANYONE else.” Rinse and repeat with their second string Oline and third string Oline.

Last year, Syracuse won games by 3, 3 (OT), 7, 7 (OT), 8, 7, and 4, plus beating Ohio by 16 and Holy Cross by 28. Syracuse did not dominate opponents, but with a great QB like McCord, you can win close games. And, the schedule last year was not that tough and the result was a once in a decade season. This year, with no McCord, the schedule is much harder: Tennessee, Clemson, @SMU, @Miami, @GT, @Notre Dame. Honestly, 5 or 6 wins will be a fantastic season.

What's there to be nervous about? This stuff is not in a coaches control. Send him 20 mil for the NIL fund.
This is the most accurate quote today. Fran can’t do anything without $$. Without $$ Fran will leave.
What do we want?

He needs to find ways to keep winning to draw more fans back and more big ticket donors. Most of us on this board are hardcore and are already donating. It's not us. Rome wasn't built in a day. He has to keep doing what he is doing. He has to find other sources of money and he needs to bowl next season with the tough schedule and get a good to really good team into our 2026 schedule. 3 years of putting the winner on the field will result in a rebuilt fandom. Rebuilding is the hardest part.

Please FFF’n STOP with the “schedule was not that tough” BS.

It is patently FALSE.

We beat THREE 10-win teams.
Three teams in the Top 25.

IIRC, the only team to play against more bowl-eligible teams than we did, was Texas,
and that was only because they were in the Playoffs and had more games.

tl/dr - 2024 was NOT an “easy” schedule.
Period.

Now, it definitely appears that 2025 will be much, much harder.
(That’s what she said? ;) )

But - that being the case, doesn’t mean 2024 was “easy”.
Because it wasn’t.

Watson’s a likely NFL pick and we have other pro prospects on both sides of the ball. In my opinion, talent’s all around. The issue is experience. Fran wants to build around HS players. That strategy relies on retaining upperclassmen/vets.

Watson is gone. As to the rest of the roster if you were a GM at a school that has more money than SU who are you even considering? Who has actually shown something on the CFB field?

The only players I would consider are Gill and Collins. Gill has potential but he isn't getting WR1 $ at this point. And I think it is more important to put our $ to bringing in new players than keeping him, which would be a big blow to lose. Collins would be a stretch for a team to give him a guaranteed starting role. I don't see it happening this year.

CFB is a year long commitment starting in May and that is it. Giving money now to a kid won't secure them for May 2026. You need to use $ to improve this year not gamble on 2026.

Dude wanted 2 mill

We should NEVER pay that to 5’9” 180lb SLOT WR

Sorry, not losing it over Pena.

Woof
Preach! I agree completely. Pay for meat not potato

Until the NCAA and schools get a binding contract system with transparency and a free agency into place then this is what college football will look like. If your team is not a contender for the playoffs that upcoming year you have a pretty good chance of losing folks in your top 10-20 to the portal because of poaching and the ease of movement to a perceived bigger stage. The factory schools will still turn out well paid NFL duds while making it to the playoffs and contenders provide opportunity to do big things on TV.

Good players leaving is more about concern for being on what they perceive as a non-competitive team which disadvantages their opportunity. That’s an individual decision, but the fan base and staff should also ask - do you really want that player that’s all about me me me and not about we we we? We know where Fran stands on it. I imagine NFL scouts are also monitoring these types of kids hoping in the portal as well. My first question would be “so can I only count on you to work hard and fight when it’s a playoff team? How many plays and practice sessions are you going to take off?”

There’s a reason guys like Kyle McCord and LeQuint Allen and Sean Tucker will make it in the league. I doubt we ever see anyone that just left play meaningful snaps in the NFL and it won’t be for lack of talent. The bigger picture is the culture of the team and DART. DART only works when everyone is bought in.

Get to six wins next year, back into a bowl and consolidate our recruiting classes for 26 and 27 and we’ll be on our way. That is if we can navigate NIL successfully.
Fran will be a coach of national stature before long.

Coach Brown knows what he is doing. He has a vision for Syracuse University Football through D.A.R.T. He has assembled a Staff that by all appearances is in lock step with what he wants to accomplish here at Syracuse. There are going to be player losses that shock us fans. Unfortunately for the fans and less blue blood schools, fortunately for the blue blood schools that’s the way College Football is right now. I will go on record right now in saying when I heard Fran Brown was going to be the Head Football Coach at Syracuse University I was upset. After his initial hire press conference I was like well time to eat crow and realize I was the idiot. Then last season happened and I firmly believe he is the perfect person to restore this program to glory. It is very important that we as a fan base support him and his staff and that the university absolutely does the same. In Fran I trust and I still say the best is yet to come. Happy Days are here again. Go Orange!
