Fran just signed a OL from Louisville with 14 starts over the last two seasons.

I just hope all the good feels from last year aren't erased in a 4 win season this year. Fran wins 10 games his first year and in a way he has more pressure this year.

He's basically adding 1 star to all our talent from prior head coaches. 5 years ago mostly 3 star or unrated and an occasional 4 star. Fran is getting tons of 4 star and a handful of 5 star guys.

Hahaha it’s nice to see he is doing better this round of portaling. I was nervous because Fran has notoriously said he wants to build the team through the high school tanks and not use the portal that much. And that’s exactly what he did for the first portal window opening. So it got me real nervous because if we are being honest. This roster was looking ehhhh heading into that schedule next year. But he got some big time pick ups the last week and looks like we have a few more coming. I’m glad Fran came around a bit because he needed to in regards to the portal

Until the rules change and there are contracts and/or limits to amount of times one can transfer, this rollercoaster is going to happen each and every year. Each year prices go up and each year teams need to pony up more and more.

Even when schools get to divvy out $20M from the athletics dept, you still are going to need NIL money to supplement lots of guys to get them Into the range they are making today.

It’s going to be a roller coaster of emotions each and every year. If Fran wins 6 this year it needs to be looked at as a huge success. The schedule is just brutal!

I could see this being a trend. 1st portal is going to be where money is thrown around and we don’t want to get into price battles.
With the 2nd window I think we can take the “moneyball” approach by picking talent that might not be guaranteed a starting role, someone with previous issues, or kids that are just frustrated with their situation.

For now with NIL being the Wild West what Fran did seems to be perfect for Syracuse and its budget.

Fran is still building the base of his roster through recruiting freshman and not the portal. If his recruited guys stay in the system he shouldn't have to and likely isn't going to bring in many portal guys at all. But if you have significant contribution guys and probably even rotational guys leaving through the portal, you almost have to use the portal to replace them. You can't just bring in another freshman. And Fran is doing that. hopefully we get one or two more pieces still as well. 2025 always seemed like it will be a transitional year with an inexperienced QB. We won't get steam rolled, but we are not going to kill it this year with the brutal schedule we have. That's OK. There are not many programs that would do well with the schedule we have in 2025 and he is in year two. Lets just look like a solid program.
