I wish our coach

He sounds like someone who loves his team, loves his job and loves his adopted community and he speaks the way he speaks. Haven't you figured it out yet that this is who he is and it isn't changing. Don't watch the pressers if you don't like it, pretty simple.

I enjoy the pressers and love how he speaks.

I guess that is why there is chocolate and vanilla, chocolate guy myself, you won't catch me eating or buying vanilla ice cream. Kind of like you watching a presser you know you won't like...he's been here 3 years.
Good post. There are numerous arrogant asshats in this business who are clearly eying the next job; HCSS doesn't seem to be one of them. Plus he appears to be able to coach and recruit a little bit. He can stay.

He was honestly blowing fournette the entire time but made that one honest statement. It actually was a classy presser if you evaluate the entire thing.
Good to hear. I didn't see it. The whole "wearing his heart on his sleeve" thing generally keeps him out of classy territory but he always comes off as sincere and likable.

I don't think everyone will ever be happen with a HCSS post game press conference. I enjoyed this one like most, he shows fire and how badly he wants these kids to succeed and how badly he wants SU to be great again. We need his fire and honestly who cares if he swears a bit.

Taking his comment out of context is REALLY unfair. His whole statement was praising Fournette, yet again.

People need to understand that Shafer is desperately trying to sell his program to CNY and alums. That's why he talked about how SU could beat anyone in the country, and implored our fans to believe that. He knows that to keep the recruiting momentum going he's gotta win games and get the Dome rocking again. I'd cut him some slack.

"I really wanted to kick his ass to be honest with you," Shafer said, "and I know he'd appreciate that. You get a chance to play a Heisman Trophy candidate, you want to knock him backward. You want to get after him and you want him to no longer be in the Heisman race after you play him."

Well, I NEVER!

So un-classy.

Yes and I would think that's what every coach would want. I'm pretty sure the kid knows this.

Good for you. I think he sounds like a turd. And I am not really talking about this presser. In general, he could make the same statements and express the same sentiments without the "hells," "god damns," "dang its," etc. I suspect that is not how he speaks during practice, film review, sidelines during games, with his family, etc.

It's who he is.

yeah. the whole statement and context of it shows the respect and he even added he thought he was a great kid too..

As I said to another poster, you had better get used to it or find another team to root for. HCSS is going to be here for a while... Barring a total collapse, yesterday earned him his extension.

You're ridiculous. Sometimes i wonder if people read half the stuff they comment on.

I said I was fine with his approach to the presser as I found it appropriate to be frustrated and wanting more. That's exactly how he should be. Where did I say he should be fired, I want him gone, he can't coach, etc.? All i said was the combination of coach speak and Yosemite-Sam like euphemisims sound ridiculous to me.

But seriously good for you too. The sign of being a great moderator on a fan board rests with the ability to castigate your team's fans while simultaneously encouraging them (not withstanding their life long fandom of the team) to go root elsewhere - goshdangnamit!

I guess I've become a grouchy old man. Stay off my lawn, you damn kids!

Become?

Just wondering, had you watched the full PC when you posted this or did you just repeat the quote from a story? Because I just don't see how anyone could be disappointed with how coach handled that pressed. He couldn't have been more complimentary of Fournette. And do hell, damn and ass count as swear words... Lol.

I think coach is a leader that really knows how to articulate a vision. The ENTIRE PC was a message about believing you can play with anyone. It was about not accepting moral victories. In order to get us back to where we once were, you HAVE to build that culture.

I would completely disagree that coach was somehow classless in the way he spoke about LSU or Fournette.

showed as much class as Fournette did. I get that he wanted to beat him and I get that he is defending his job, and I get that he wants to instill confidence in his kids after this game, so that some lasting good comes from it. But Floyd Little had the right attitude, telling the young man "I'll see you at the Heisman ceremony."

I only saw a clip of about 15 seconds, not the whole thing. In that 15 seconds, he must have sworn 5 times and twice said he wanted to kick the kid's ass. Yes, I know he was fired up. I said all of those things in my original post. I just think the contrast with how Fournette spoke of us was not flattering to Shaffer. I really like him, but sometimes I cringe at how often he swears on TV. It is a university, after all.

He is a very classy young man, but he won the game, had he lost, he would have probably been pretty ticked off.
When our defense stopped him on a few plays into the second half, he started getting frustrated and was jaw jacking with SU players. When Morgan tried to knock the ball out of his hands in the endzone he said a few words that instigated Morgan to say something back. This is all part of the game but Fournette and LSU are far from innocent classy schoolboys. The entire team was getting frustrated and angry that they were not blowing us out.

I don't think I was ever this excited and content after losing a game. I think if Mahoney had a full week with first string, we would have blown out CMU. I know, what if. I am hoping that some highly ranked high school players watched the game and see that SU Football is real.
