I wish our coach

Watch the presser in its entirety.
He is just taking quotes and soundbites from espn... that's about as useful as reading a Syracuse.com article.

Good for you. I think he sounds like a turd. And I am not really talking about this presser. In general, he could make the same statements and express the same sentiments without the "hells," "god damns," "dang its," etc. I suspect that is not how he speaks during practice, film review, sidelines during games, with his family, etc.
Apparently you didnt see him tell Dabo to -OFF during the game. That is EXACTLY how he talks on the sideline, and ive talked to him personally several times and he talks that way in person. Keep worrying about it though...im sure it makes you feel better about yourself.

I only saw a clip of about 15 seconds, not the whole thing. In that 15 seconds, he must have sworn 5 times and twice said he wanted to kick the kid's ass. Yes, I know he was fired up. I said all of those things in my original post. I just think the contrast with how Fournette spoke of us was not flattering to Shaffer. I really like him, but sometimes I cringe at how often he swears on TV. It is a university, after all.
I would stop replying to these comments on this thread at this point...you sound more and more like the " sit down and be quiet" people at the fball and bball games in The Dome with every single response.

#1 - JB has been coach for 40 years. I can think of one time he swore in a press conference - when Gerry was called Overrated. That's the only time I can remember. Is JB any less passionate than Shaffer as coach?

#2 - People have posted on the board in the last 24 hours about being embarrassed at the foul mouthed fans around them at the game, swearing without regard to kids sitting nearby. This is family entertainment, after all.

#3 - I get that he was fired up. I get that he was trying to pump up the kids, to make this more than a moral victory.

But in comparison to Fournette, which was my original point, Shaffer came off as less classy than the kid who called us the original Running Back U, paid tribute to the great 44s, etc. I pointed out the contrast. If you don't like it, fine. I find Shaffer's lack of control in media situations to be a little embarrassing. It's not like this is the first time he has shot his mouth off inappropriately at press conferences. He needs better control of himself.
Im sure there are plenty of KIDS watching post-game press conferences...dude..just stop

IM Happy Shafer said the things he said, IM happy he talks about the team as if they are his own kids, and I'm happy he told Dabo to -Off! he is a passionate coach who cares and puts his emotions out there. I will take that any day over G-Rob dumb stare! Besides he said he wanted to take LF out of the Heisman race. Didn't we all want the same? I was hoping our D would kick his A** so bad he would end up with negative yards. We all wanted that, would of been a dream come true, but it didn't happen. Its not like Shafer said he wanted to kick his butt out of the race by way of injury, He wanted what we all wanted, our D to be immaculate and shut down the best RB in the nation, hell the best RB in a long time and the BEST RB to come to do the dome in I dont know how long. Threads like this are crazy, getting fired up because he made a comment that essentially spoke for the entire SU nation.

For the record:

MEDIA QUESTION:

Leornard fournette tweeted last night how much it meant to him to be in the carrier dome and see ernie davis and jim browns face up there. what was it like for you guys to play against a player who could, it’s not hyperbolic to suggest he might be a heisman trophy finalist.

SHAFER:

Well it was nice and all that stuff but (smiling) we really wanted to kick his ass to be honest with ya and I know he’d appreciate that. Ah ya know you get a chance to play a heisman trophy candidate and you want to knock him backwards, get after him, and you want him to no longer be in the heisman race after you play him, that’s the truth of it and I know fournette would appreciate me saying the truth. HE’S A GREAT PLAYER, HES GOING TO DO EXTREMELY WELL FOR HIMSELF, um and ah, it was good and ya know, we wanted to beat him and we didn’t beat him so I was mad to be honest with you and that’s the gods honest truth. And ah, THEY'VE GOT A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM.

But umm ya know, somebody did mention that to me before the game but I wasn’t quite sure what they were talking about, um I hope he had a chance to maybe meet Floyd, I don’t know, kinda cool for a young man to come into Syracuse and ya know, play in the venue where so many great tailbacks played, so ah, so that’s kinda neat that he ah, social media (inaudible), be pretty cool by him, SEEMS LIKE A GREAT KID…inaudible end

(I’m curious 5 swear words though ? and he said it once, not a couple of times, and how does this come off as less than classy)

Didn't we all love that during his first presser as HC?

Shafer isn't reading the kids tweets. He acknowledges in the presser he had no idea the Fournette was interested in Syracuse history. He was also uber complimentary of Fournette in the presser. And personally I appreciate my head coach saying we wanted to kick his ass and hope to knock him out of the heisman race.

I dunno. But I definitely see what you are saying. You're right, not likely that SS saw the tweets and pretty unlikely he saw the pic, etc. So that kind of needs to be factored in as well. I didn't think about that. Maybe if Fournette had set a bunch of this stuff up ahead time SS would have known, but that seems potentially unlikely as well. But you're right...it's pretty much a non-issue and my initial reaction may have been a little much. Personally, I'd prefer he saved that kind of talk for the real enemy, not a kid who by all accounts seems to be pretty classy. Tough one for me because I'm the last person to be found in the PC camp. This one just really rubbed me the wrong way.
