I wish our coach

Watch broadcast or cable TV any night of the week. Especially if you have kids. You will quickly and gratefully change stations to an HCSS press conference anytime. This thread is deranged. Just someone trying to find something to complain about

I only saw a clip of about 15 seconds, not the whole thing. In that 15 seconds, he must have sworn 5 times and twice said he wanted to kick the kid's ass. Yes, I know he was fired up. I said all of those things in my original post. I just think the contrast with how Fournette spoke of us was not flattering to Shaffer. I really like him, but sometimes I cringe at how often he swears on TV. It is a university, after all.

Swore 5 times?? Really, what word did he use? The only words that could even be even remotely viewed as "swear words" were damn and ass, and those my friend are not swear words.

Wondering if you and I watched the same press conference...and the presser was 13 minutes long, not 15 seconds.

Good for you. I think he sounds like a turd. And I am not really talking about this presser. In general, he could make the same statements and express the same sentiments without the "hells," "god damns," "dang its," etc. I suspect that is not how he speaks during practice, film review, sidelines during games, with his family, etc.
You're ridiculous. Sometimes i wonder if people read half the stuff they comment on.

I said I was fine with his approach to the presser as I found it appropriate to be frustrated and wanting more. That's exactly how he should be. Where did I say he should be fired, I want him gone, he can't coach, etc.? All i said was the combination of coach speak and Yosemite-Sam like euphemisims sound ridiculous to me.

But seriously good for you too. The sign of being a great moderator on a fan board rests with the ability to castigate your team's fans while simultaneously encouraging them (not withstanding their life long fandom of the team) to go root elsewhere - goshdangnamit!
"I think he sounds like a turd?" Doesn't sound like you were fine with his approach.

Where did I castigate you?

showed as much class as Fournette did.

I get that he wanted to beat him and I get that he is defending his job, and I get that he wants to instill confidence in his kids after this game, so that some lasting good comes from it.

But Floyd Little had the right attitude, telling the young man "I'll see you at the Heisman ceremony."

I hear your point, but I loved it.

I loved it because he was sending a message to his kids and to us fans that he wants to win. Not moral victory win, but win.

I'll take it.

The whole thing about Fournette "I wanted to kick his ass." Said it a couple times, swore another handful of times. You're on TV and you're the head coach. You're not still in the locker room. This is year 3, and he was coordinator for four years under Marrone. He should know better by now.
You're overreacting. The man wears his heart on his sleeve. He was very complimentary of Fournette. He even said something about him being a bright young man. As for the guys above who disparage his mild language. Stop the PC crap. This is football. I suspect that most of here have shouted a few more emphatic phrases.

Like the fire, like the substance. Salty off-color language? Not necessary, bad example, and he would do better to cut it back. Save it for the right forum. There are any number of excellent hard-nosed coaches who can make their point, and express their personality, with a better vocabulary.
Not the biggest deal, and I know many posters disagree.

Had no problem with it. Also said He was a great back afterr kick ass commet. Its S s style

Yeah, but this kid is like "Ernie Davis" level of nice and classy. So complimentary of our history as a program, such a class act. I felt embarrassed by the comparison in tone, to be honest.

How anyone is even arguing this is ridiculous. Good kid. Understands SU RB history. Respects it and paid homage to it. That's nicer than anyone has been to SU football in 15 years. It's the respect everyone here craves (and complains about and uses for excuses) all the time.

SS should put the fire aside and acknowledge that and use it as moment to put the program ahead of all else.

44cuse

Watch the whole press conference. There was nothing wrong with anything he said.

If you judge a program's class by post game press conference, you're an idiot.
HCSS is the face of the program and PCs are opportunities to establish the image that you want your program. I like how he represents us but he's more real person / guy i'd like to have a drink with than classy.

I'm glad he said good things about Fournette.

You must have never played competitively in any sport at any level

Would have come off better if #7 didn't drop 244 yards and 2 tds on his defense.

Again, another person that didn't watch the PC, I presume?

Loved his PC. Loved it! The guy loves his job and loves being himself.

I don't feel comfortable with the word "turd". I don't think this forum is the place for such language. ;)

I would have said taking a "Rutgers" but that is far more offensive and inappropriate for this board.

Did you watch it? He was very respectful. And he said he'd bet Fournette would appreciate that we wanted to kick his ass. Which is probably true.

Class is what you do, not who you are. Ask Bill Cosby's victims.

#1 - JB has been coach for 40 years. I can think of one time he swore in a press conference - when Gerry was called Overrated. That's the only time I can remember. Is JB any less passionate than Shaffer as coach?

#2 - People have posted on the board in the last 24 hours about being embarrassed at the foul mouthed fans around them at the game, swearing without regard to kids sitting nearby. This is family entertainment, after all.

#3 - I get that he was fired up. I get that he was trying to pump up the kids, to make this more than a moral victory.

But in comparison to Fournette, which was my original point, Shaffer came off as less classy than the kid who called us the original Running Back U, paid tribute to the great 44s, etc. I pointed out the contrast. If you don't like it, fine. I find Shaffer's lack of control in media situations to be a little embarrassing. It's not like this is the first time he has shot his mouth off inappropriately at press conferences. He needs better control of himself.

I find some of our fans' inability to spell our head coach's name correctly to be a little embarrassing.

I find it odd that anyone would cite JB's press conference demeanor as the standard to which Shafer should aspire.

Shafer is a little rough around the edges at times, but is totally without pretense, much like Coach Mac, and I don't recall many having a problem with him.
