If for some stupid reason the ACC plays football this fall

If the ACC, the SEC and the Big 12 play, what are they playing for?

A playoff with just teams from those conferences is not a 'national championship'.

Steve Spurrier just called into a radio program and said that the ACC and SEC should just play their seasons and the winners play for the national championship. Someone from those 2 conferences was going to win it anyway.

He’s not wrong.

Then after the season the conference needs to go to the SEC and say you stopped our 3-5-5 division less plan years ago.

You didn’t like it and with the Big Ten voted it down.
You owe us the support of this measure since we stuck by you and played football in a pandemic.

If the ACC isn’t trying to leverage changes they want now they won’t get them.
The SEC giving it their blessing along with the Big XII which co-sponsored the amendment with the ACC would have the votes so that divisions wouldn’t be necessary to determine confidence championship games every season.

The NCAA gave the ACC the waiver this year because of the pandemic.

However if we stupidly play use the situation to it’s advantage.
Can you imagine the football recruiting trail if the ACC, SEC, and Big XII play this season and the Big Ten does not? It will be like SMU with the death penalty for the Big Ten. All of their talent will transfer and good luck with any high school recruits.

The College Football Playoff is Clemson, the SEC and two sacrificial lambs - Ohio State and Oklahoma.

All this does is bring us back to a BCS era Championship.

If teams are able to play the full season and we don't end up with lots of sick kids (and that's not a small 'if'), maybe ACC/SEC/BigXII teams gain some short-term advantage but Penn State, Michigan, etc are always going to get elite recruits.

it could go the other way as some parents will steer there kids to what they feel was the smarter choice regarding playing , and they would have more time to recruit. Plus say they play 6 games and get shut down then the season counts and kids lose eligibility and no chance for bowls or playoffs while others have the eligibility.. still I wanna give it a go as spring or next fall isn’t guaranteed

IF the SEC/ACC play... it will absolutely hurt PSU, Michigan and OSU in recruiting. Those top recruits they manage to pull out of the South are going to stay in the South.

Multiple recruiters in the B1G have already told reporters that they’ve been told by players, and parents, that they want to play in a conference that cares about football.

Could be coincidental, but OSU just lost a 4/5 star player today - Decommitted, likely headed to Florida.

we will cross the playoff question once we get thru the season

Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot of recruits, especially ones who have their eyes on playing in the NFL, who really value getting playing time now. There are also some who see the risk and agree with not playing.
IDK. Teenagers are hard to predict. I guess we'll see in the next few months.

Conferences from where the champions came from since the beginning of the BCS, (I consider 2003 a shared championship since USC was #1 in both polls but didn't get invited to the BCS title game).

1998 SEC
1999 ACC
2000 Big 12
2001 Big East (but now in the ACC)
2002 Big 10
2003 SEC and Pac 10 (now 12)
2004 Pac 10 (now 12)
2005 Big 12
2006 SEC
2007 SEC
2008 SEC
2009 SEC
2010 SEC
2011 SEC
2012 SEC
2013 ACC
2014 Big 10
2015 SEC
2016 ACC
2017 SEC
2018 ACC
2019 SEC

I'll agree that the SEC and ACC have dominated but not exclusively. I still think that a playoff that didn't include the Big 10 and Pac12 would lack credibility.

Uhh, OX, you may have to un-post this post. It does not fit the narrative that college kids, especially athletes, can exhibit self discipline, sound judgment, and a little common sense. Not saying this will continue, but it looks like SU may be taking this 'rona a bit seriously.

Kudos to the school and all the kids, athletes and non-athletes. Keep up the good work. This is one time I hope the college kids rebel against society and prove up that they can be good citizens, give a little back to their fellow humans by taking recommended precautions, exercise discretion and self discipline.

I know many on here will lament the loss of the "college experience" but I believe if colleges (SU in particular) prove the kids can beat this virus, the kids will have that much more character and, when the virus blows over, that much more fun. Not to mention and obnoxiously boring story to tell their grandkids.*

*"When I was your age, we had a whole summer of doing nothing! And we loved it!"

There is not going to be a postseason football playoff series this year.

If 3 conferences play a close to full schedule, why not? It’s about money, the tv networks would love to have some semblance of bowl games. They may rephrase what they call the playoff championship but it’ll still be the same concept.

A flute with no holes is not a flute. A donut with no hole, is a Danish.

The winner of a baseball league with 29 teams in the US and one in Toronto wins the 'world' series.

I think the players will be ok with whatever we call their victory.

SU, I don't want you to go play football this year

a wise man once said “you play to win the game...helllllllo?”

the ACC and Syracuse, need to drop the 11th game.

get rid of Liberty.

revisit with the SEC, make the 11th game a crossover.

put them all in late December, fill the bowl void.

provided things go according to plan, there should still be a F4.

if the bevo drops out, then just take the top 2 from each league.

Could you name some more things that, once their holes are removed, become other things?

Right now it’s basically Acc , sec , big 12
Play 8 shorten the season 1 bowl game as a 9th game between the conferences
And an old fashioned national voted champion
Get the season over with early December
Get out while you can . Experts say the winter will be bad . If the experts are right there is NO WAY we have spring football! This will mean the virus is worst so no way players will be on campus having to start practand lifting in January. So it’s now or next fall
