If this new offense can't convince 50K to show up for Clemson, I give up on the city of Syracuse

Tennessee had to have more than 4K in 98. They had the whole corner top to bottom.
I was at that game, and I have to say Tennessee was very well represented. I remember coming out the game looking around and realizing that there was so much of that ugly orange around me.

50k is more than a sell out and we've only ever had a few sell ours. Doubt we sell out Clemson.

47K plus, like all of our big games used to get. They may not have been official sellouts, but the Dome always seemed packed and full. I'm talking about like it was for Miami, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida, West Virginia, UNC for the 96 opener, BC when they were good, etc.

When we're playing a top 5 team, it should be like it was for those games.

BS! Sad student turn-out. Cameras zooming in have a way to hide what is really there.

Uh, ok. Not b.s. Just telling what I saw on my television. But good for you for clearing that up.

Heard today that Clemson has 40 buses of fans traveling to Syracuse for the game.

good the more the merrier. just as long as they don't wear blue we should be able to trick the television audience into thinking we have a rabid fan base

I hope the University gets their act together and markets the hell out of #3 Clemson visiting the Dome, throughout upstate NY, for the next two weeks. No pussyfooting around with this.

Here are the cities in New York State.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_New_York
All of them with a population of around 30k or higher, within a 2 hour radius of Syracuse, need to have commercials airing for the next 2 weeks.

Rochester ~ 200k
Syracuse ~ 150k
Albany ~ 100k
Schenectady ~ 65k
Utica ~ 60k
Troy ~ 50k
Binghamton ~ 45k
Rome ~ 35k
Ithaca ~ 30k
Elmira ~ 30k

That's about 765k people, not including the smaller cities and towns, within a 2 hour radius. Every single one of them needs to have commercials airing on TV and radio.

Way more than 765k within 2-hour radius. The city of Rochester, e.g., may be 200,000, but the county (Monroe) population is roughly 750k.

Yeah. Tennessee had people tailgating days before the game. They had to have more than 4k.

And they were loud.

Tennessee requested 10k tickets. We ended up giving them just under 7k. I remember reading that I think 6,800 was the final count.

I don't think Clemson will have anything like that, but probably 3k easy though. So for scaling, think 2,970 more than the average Big East opponent not named West Virginia.

Our D is going to give up 70 to Clemson... and I hate to say it but I don't think a lot of the plays we are making are going to be there against a legit BCS D.

I disagree completely.

Wow.

Wow.

Can't win. Average 40 per first half the past two weeks, score over 50, and it's "look who you played". How many times have we had 40 at halftime, and 50 for the game ever? In school history? We've played similar type teams plenty of times.

People can't just enjoy this. I know I am. Can't wait for Clemson.

It's silly posts like that one that explain the attendance issue at the Dome.

We have very odd fans if you can call them fans.

between posts like that, and the absolutely ridiculous comments that get posted under the syracuse football facebook account i've come to the conclusion that there are just as many people that enjoy us losing as opposed to winning. We are easily the least football savvy fan base in the country. i realize other fan bases b!tch and moan as well, but at least they attend the games, and at least they know what the hell they are talking about.

I think you put it well - we have too many fans with no football savvy.

Why did that non-savvy fan base attend games in the late 80's and 90's? Did they just lose their saviness?

The savvy ones either died of old age, moved away when all the jobs around here left, or are smart enough not to come on message boards or twitter

I posted this in the other thread. I think this is what it really boils down to:

I think it's also a chicken-egg/snowball type thing (not sure how to phrase that). It is a lot of fun to go to a game at the dome when there are 45,000 people, and a genuine energy in the stadium. But seeing a game in the dome when there are 22,000 people, and it is dead inside, kinda sucks and is probably not as good of an experience as just watching at home on your 50'' tv. The bottom line is that in 2013 you get a much better 'view' of a football/basketball game at home, so if you go to the game in person, you are going for the experience of being part of the crowd more so than the experience of actually watching the game.

The problem is that people will not want to go to these games until they offer the right atmosphere, but that atmosphere will not exist until people start going to the games.

So they will double the most visiting fans to EVER visit the dome? Dude...

How many did PSU have in the dome last time they played here. It was easily more than 8K.

Our fans a willing to come to the Dome when we are winning 9 to 10 games per year with stars like McNabb.

We are truly front runners.

When Shafer wins eight in a row, the fans will return.

They're like an entirely new team.

Haven't seen a transformation like this in forever.

We are currently witnessing something special at the QB spot.

Enjoy it.
You make that proclamation after we play 2 crap teams, the last one of which handed SU the ball in the red zone at least 3 times. :rolling: I hope you are right. I just don't see it. Where was this offense in the 2nd half? Where is a consistent run game?

Your point is 100% spot on but those numbers are way too low. You actually used city population. Syracuse metro alone which is about 600K ( which includes Onondaga, Oswego, Madison counties). The suburbs of Syracuse dwarf the city itself and most fans come from there.

My possibly hyperbolic post was meant to discount the erroneous belief that Clemson will have 8,000 people in the dome in two weeks. They won't.
