If we beat UConn next weekend…

Actually if we beat Miami, they don’t make the ACC championship game.
Miami stomped gleefully on my football dreams for many years.
i feel it would be long overdue payback if we crush their championship dreams.
Ironic if it is Georgia Tech and Syracuse who end their hopes.
does SMU have the tiebreaker over Miami if they lose 2 games now?

This is an interesting game from a lot of perspectives.

Uconn is not a bad team by any stretch, their D is improved from the last few years when it was god awful and they have a real good run game and some ability to throw the ball with their back up QB ( by far their weakest link though).

If you look at so called "peer competition" the results are mixed. Uconn played Duke and Wake tough (especially Duke) but got absolutely annihilated by Maryland in game 1.

Mora is a good coach and clearly will try and attack SU the same way BC did with a ton of power running, play action and I suspect a decent number of trick plays (really hope SU is prepared for that aspect). I fully suspect a fake punt and multiple trick plays on offense.

That said if you look at Uconns schedule there's a lot of head scratching games. They played Duke and Wake well but were in a knife fight with a really bad Temple team, struggled and were down by 17 to a UAB team that's giving up 40+ to any team with a pulse including 71 to Tulane and 53 to Memphis and barely beat Rice and GA state who have 5 wins combined (though Rice does seem better then their 3-7 record).

If your Syracuse I think there is a few things you wanna see/do. One is be prepared to see two quarterbacks. Evers is the starter but really struggles to throw the ball and at times is downright putrid. He's had games of 128, 104, 88 and 75 yards passing. Fagnano is the back up and he has come in and saved them a few times (see UAB) but apparently has struggled to grasp the playbook and for some reason has been unable to overtake Evers.

Unlike versus BC I think SU needs to scrap trying the 3-3-5 or even the 4-2-5 and go with a 4-3 base with Barron playing that 3rd LB spot. I know we have major DL injury issues but Uconn has to run the ball to have any shot to be competitive less win. SU should stack the box and force Evers to throw the ball and assuming he won't be able to once they switch to Fagnano go back to the 3-3-5 /4-2-5.

If your SU you have to avoid the dumb mistakes ie bad turnovers, tons of dropped passes, dump penalties that kill or extend drives and allow long TD runs (see BC and Cal). I have zero doubt SU can score on Uconn, maybe not at will but Uconn has no where near the secondary depth to keep up with SU's # of receivers, full stop. Uconn wants to grind out long drives ala BC, if SU can come out and jump on them ala UNLV they will force UConn to have to throw which they will likely struggle with. Also would like to see Robinson really bring the blitz on Sat be it in run blitzing and on obvious passing downs.
Not sure they have the OLine to be nearly as successful as BC was.

Yup. They have an experienced coach who had two weeks to prepare for our game. Regional rival.

This game means a lot to them.

They are going to come out and be physical.

We need to respond accordingly
Would some call it, Uconn's super bowl?

The Wes Hoeh Bowl. Wes was on Olineman for us and Babers tried using him as a blocking fullback like Rhino. It didn't work, I remember Wes with a lot of penalties and missed assignments. Portaled to UConn where he's either starting or playing a lot on the Oline.

Wes has been starting at center all season.

Wes was the player I sat next to on the flight from Chicago who told me his version of his best friend Lamson reason for leaving SU.
He came across as such a nice guy. Interesting, intelligent, really felt badly that his friend was going yet he was excited for him. I'm glad he's doing well. I think he's going to do well in life after football.
