If we don’t make the tournament next yr, is Red gone?

Personally, I think Red is going to get a much longer leash than many want in this thread. He will be given every opportunity to be successful here IMO, minimum of 4 years. I think this season was a decent start obviously not a great one, had it’s ups and down but the sooner he has a roster of kids that have no memory or experience of playing for JB he will be as a coach as will the program. anyone posting that Red’s first season was some type of abject failure has an axe to grind an agenda There is a ton of work to do but I think Red will continue to get better and get the roster settled down as he continues to recruit kids out of HS.

dino got a ridiculous amount of time and he wasn’t a Syracuse alumni.

Had dino not won 10 games his third year and ending the season ranked in the top 20 (likely the equivalent of making a sweet sixteen) then he would have been gone.

Two out of 3 ratings I saw were in the 70s, not the 150s. Kids ranked 150 don't get scholarships to go to Kansas.
You’re dug in. Strange. I guess we live in a world where facts don’t really matter anymore.

It’s a weird position to take, but you have the right to take that position.

Facts don't matter to whom?

yes gone after 4-5 years as opposed to 8 years same time Red will get. If people truly believe that JW will show a lack of patience with Red they clearly aren’t watching very closely or just delusional.

I have yet to find any list from a reputable recruiting site that has Cuffe listed in the top 100. You stated he was 78th in Rivals. I literally showed you the Rivals list that had him at 111. You’re either trolling or ignorant. I really don’t care.

Also, you still haven’t shown any list he was Top 50, which was your original claim.

This is kind of a weird hill to die on, but it’s your hill so you are free to die on it.

Don't be an ass. You saw the Kansas City newspaper announcing his recruitment, saying he was rated #78. You can read, right?

That was his ESPN rating.

Here's his rating from Rivals. He was #56 at the end of the season. This is from the Kansas basketball team's web site in his player profile.

And you said he was around 150, which is not vaguely true. 50-75 range was correct. 100-150 was not. Get over yourself.

i'm in no way saying red did a bad job coaching this season. i liked that he switched it up a bit. but he lost a core group of his team to the portal and we have to see how capable he is replenishing and yes even improving upon those losses. this is the new reality . it's no longer give him 3 classes to get his guys. that's the past. so if it's gonna be rebuilding thru the portal then we are free to judge him for who he brings in this year are we not ? and if he can't do it this summer who says next year will be better ? so yes i could see this as his last season unless he shows us he has the skills and ability to navigate the portal , reload and rebuild stronger .

“Most places had him 100-150” is what I wrote. As if there isn’t a post you can refer two pages back. Good god man. It’s like your brain refuses to work on this topic.

It’s like you are incapable of saying “my mistake” or “I guess I was misinformed”

This is one of the funnier interactions I’ve ever had on this board. Quite bizarre. This reminds me of the saying “you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.”

Again do you really think JW is going to fire red after year 2? Seriously

just got another email and call about the regional development rep "thanking me for my giving - including to Athletics - wanting to meet me in my home, office, or elsewhere"...

If our record slips partially because we don’t bring in an ACC level PG. I think he will be on a hot seat.
If he had a pass because of last year, then the training wheels should be off now and his roster construction should have no excuses at this point. NIL issues also should not be evaluated separately because it’s his job to energize and win over the donor base.

Other than “continuity” I want to start seeing tangible reasons Red was the winner of a national search as JW has repeatedly said.

What is this “national search” thing you are referring to?

The board is full of funny interactions. Did you know that Steph Curry is just a setup jump shooter with no handle...

Still plenty of talent still available in the portal. So hard to grade an incomplete product.

If I had to grade at this very second, I’m extremely disappointed. The portal adds have been meh at best and we still have significant needs at PG.

Some people tried to push the narrative Red was hired late in the process last year and that’s why the team didn’t have great talent and didnt fit together. Which was laughably false.

We had the 11th ranked portal class.

JJ - #5 overall, #1 combo guard
Westry- #76 overall, # 10 combo guard
McLeod- #323 overall, #46 center
Cuffe- #342 overall, #26 combo guard

McLeod now has a foot injury for a 7 footer and did not look good this year. Hopefully he will be much better in a backup role.

Lot of talk Westry could be really good. But he hasn’t played college basketball in 2 years and has multiple knee injuries. Is his potential ever realized? Have to be some questions/concerns about him.

At this point this year we have lost a lot of talent. Now from all reports, a lot of these were net positive departures. But based on the talent on the squad, you would think that would make it easier to attract better players to come shine. And so far, I’m not sure that has come to fruition.

Contributors we lost to transfer.

Brown #68 overall, #9 PF
Copeland #173 overall, #35 PG
Taylor- #308 overall, #64 Small forward
Williams - #240 overall, #49 Small Forward

Currently we are ranked 38 in transfer Portal rankings.

Davis- #132 overall, #29 SF
Lampkin- #205 overall, #33 C
Carlos- #212 overall, #43 PG

Lot easier to grade and scout players currently in college and the quality of players we are adding are not as good as the players we are loosing. That we thought were not that good or headaches. (Not talking about Brown here).

In addition, Jeff Goodman tweeted the other day. UConn, Alabama, Baylor continue to get players without big NIL offers. It’s not always about the money.

So I’m looking at our current roster and can’t help but question the construction. I feel as if we have a lot more questions than answers.

Hope to be proven wrong. And still a lot of time to add more pieces to the puzzle. But at this time. I am not particularly excited about this roster.

Hes got 3 years. But say he doesnt make the tourny next year, his seat will be so damn hot, he could get fired mid season if it’s looking like hell year 3 and JW will 100% go outside the cuse fam

Also, the thing thats kind of working against Red right now is the Fran Brown hire and what that has happened to that division/hype he is creating for the fanbase. Now we have to see the results on the field but JW wants the same reaction with the basketball team.

I’m not freaking out though. Yes Maliq portaling, I legit thought it was an April Fools joke but we have ALOT of time and names to be added to the portal. The staff has every opportunity to build back the squad.

Well, if JW was looking (hoping) for such "hype" on the hoops side, then it makes it, let's just say rather peculiar, going the continuity route as he did with Red, especially considering how stagnant the program had become the past half decade plus.

We all recall his repeated and infamous "equity" comments he made just one season prior to JB's firing, awkward forced retirement.

His stated this after hiring Red; "Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job. “Adrian earned this,” Wildhack said Friday. “Adrian’s not here because he’s an alum, because he played here, because he’s an associate coach here. He’s here because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this program and sustain the success that coach Boeheim has established over 47 years.”

If things don't pan out with Red, or with FB on the field (where it ultimately matters most) Wildhack's credibility, IMO, won't be worth much. He is the one who rolled the dice with both critical hires not possessing any actual head coaching experience and/or proven track record of success.

next spring there will be 2 camps. the OOPS and the ITOLDYA's.

It depends (sorry for the hot take). As we all know, tournament bids often come down to 1-2 games breaking just right, sometimes 1-2 shots, or the selection committee thinking about your team in a certain way. If JW is staking Red's continued employment to those kinds of whims, that doesn't bode well for anyone.

Not suggesting that Red needs to do this THIS year, but it is possible to have a team that is known to be in before the selection show without those 1-2 games breaking right. We used to have it ALL the time.

That's obviously the goal. If it happens this coming season, great. If not, some conversations will need to be had.
