I'm not Convinced Shrader is any Better...

Different post if taj hangs on (imo a bs call on that fumble). Thats a td next play and we roll.
I counted at least 4-5 significant bad calls or missed calls:

1) Taj's BS fumble, his knee was down and that never should have been called on the field. Period.

2) Shrader not only getting hands to the face from a Rutgers DL but also a facemask RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REFEREE and no call at all.

3) The Halo infraction on the punt return where Cantin Arku didn't even touch the guy.

4) The unnecessary roughness call which gave Rutgers a first down after our defense made a big stop - that coupled with...

5) The sideline call on Dino - directly led to a Rutgers TD. I'm not sure what Dino said or did, but Schiano was all over the Refs all freaking game and nothing was called on him. So unless Dino made a death threat to the Ref's kids I'm not exactly sure why he was singled out on it.

And there were more. This was as frustrating as our general procedural sloppiness, false starts, holding, illegal formations, etc. and the bizarre offensive gameplan.

The fumble killed us but the rest… im just done with the staff minus the D

Tommy getting stripped after the field goal miss was incredible. Shrader
Doesn’t do that.
I think you're overlooking Shrader's fumble deep in our own territory, that fortunately went out of bounds.

I’m sure most of the fan base is in the same boat. Offensively, nothing yesterday looked appreciably different from what we’ve been watching for 20 years. And if there isn’t a miraculous turnaround over the next 10 games, I have no idea how Dino can recruit.

Looked to me like Schrader was trying to create an incomplete pass, rather than take a sack. He certainly wasn't stripped.
In that vase, it was good field awareness. With this officiating crew, he was lucky it wasn't called a fumble or intentional grounding.

I don't know if Schrader is the answer or not because he has very limited playing time. I do know that Devito is NOT the answer. He is stagnant and not growing; the guy makes the same mistakes game after game, year after year. The best that can be said about Devito is "he made the right reads and managed the game." We need an actual playmaker at QB. Time to move on from Devito as supposedly we have a very deep QB Room. If Schrader doesn't perform then let's move on to one of the younger guys who can actually learn and grow.

He really underwhelmed me today
seriously??? who puts a qb who hasn't played in two years in the game with the ball on your 10yd????twice????. when he did get a chance he did move the team somewhat. what did you think ru was going to do with a new qb and the ball on his own 10y/d. ??? babers decision making is ridiculous .
he is out of his league. i wanted babers to succeed albeit for selfish reasons. the punting decision was very telling.

Yeah gave the guy zero chance there. His comment tells me everything I need to know. “It was preplanned.” Well change your plan and put him in when you’re not backed up. Dino is stubborn and will never fix his issues. Guy needs to go.

Dude she kept saying there gonna miss this field goal and I was all p’ed off and they did then right up until the interception was completely positive. I immediately said to her, your coming to more games with me lol
Sounds like a marriage proposal.

Well, running QB, running situation. That’s one explanation.

I would argue we have a broad QB room, not a deep one.
We are so accustomed to awful QB play that when we get marginal play from that position we think it's good.

Dino's decision really is mind boggling. Against Ohio with the lead and control of the game he doesn't put Shrader in at all. Against Rutgers with the game tied he throws him in. The only thing I can think of is that Dino didn't want Rutgers to have tape on Shrader. That to me is short sighted as getting the QB up to speed is more important.

Shrader might not be the answer but we know Devito isn’t.

ive been saying this for two years and before everyone laughed at me. Devito is meh about winning and is all about padding and protecting his stats.

He can not perform in a actual game situation.

Shrader had the team moving, to pull him after that drive was absolutely insane.

Dino should be fired sooner rather than later IMO

Still makes no sense that he didn't predetermine it in the Ohio game as well.

Couldn’t give Rutgers too much of an advantage.

Had to keep game plan vanilla.

We had to keep it vanilla against Rutgers too. We got Albany next week. Tough team. Can’t give up good film study

and not only that but we were pinned deep. Shrader starts his first drive at the 12 yard line. That's not a good situation.

His 1st play was a QB run for 2, then a Tucker run for 3. At 3rd and 5 Gilbert calls a nice play and it's executed little swing pass to Taj (who had motioned to the backfield) he picked up about 9. Should've been a first down but instead we get called for an illegal formation penalty. (and on rewatch I hate this call but it's not wrong. Bergeron lines up nearly two yards deep.)

On the redo 3rd down now at 3rd and 10. Shrader to pass. This is interesting I'd recommend a rewatch here because there is a lot going on. Within 2.5 seconds of the snap Shrader has to scramble. I believe the play is supposed to be a QB draw but it broke down quickly because of two missed blocks. First Veterello and then Tucker. Both miss stunting DEnds who are looping from outside to inside over the center hole. Shrader has to bail and is sacked within 3.5 seconds of the snap. Even executed correctly play maybe picks up 5.

What's else is going on in this play. We had 4 wide (w/Benson) and single back with Tucker. Rutgers had 5 DBs in coverage, rushed 4 dropping 2 LBs into a medium zone.

First Gilbert sends Benson on a straight fly pattern which wouldn't have been open because there was a deep safety on Benson.

But you have to watch Taj Harris run his route. If I'm a coach and I see this, Taj is demoted immediately starting this Saturday. Unacceptable IMO.

2nd GS drive.

Punt hits Pena in the chest at the 24 yard line which he muffs and recovers at the 15 yard line. So another terrible place for GS to start his drive. Tucker run for 1, GS run for 1. (my dvr cuts out I don't actually see these plays.)

3rd and 8.
4 WR set. Shrader starts scrambling at 4 seconds. Not one WR is even at the sticks yet. Courtney curls 5 yards short of the mark. WR #2 Taj is being bear hugged and held a couple of yards short of the sticks. Outside WRs are not at the sticks yet and being blanketed by man coverage. Shrader bails to his right, Courtney breaks back toward the sideline GS hits him for a 3 yard gain. Punt.

The holding is blatant and obvious, it should be called but it's not. In the first freeze frame it appears GS wants Taj and you can see the initial bear hug. You absolutely have to watch this live it's astonishing it's not called. The 2nd freeze frame is to illustrate how long the holding lasts. Entire duration of the play.

Our line however is definitely not holding up long enough for guys to run their routes. 4 man rush again with the same DE stunts. Veterello again doesn't block a stunting DEnd looping inside which blows up the play. Both DEnds actually run free up the middle. Vet can block either guy and blocks no one. Tucker MIA on helping as he stays over the Tackle and blocks no one either.

*Going forward this is clearly the book on how to beat us. Rush 4 and stunt the DEnds inside over the center.

These problems aside I seriously question our route tree to begin with.

Good point regarding officiating. Maybe it happened too fast for them to call intentional grounding?

It was either of those, he was down for a loss
Yep the refs bumbled around and they finally decided the knee was down.

Tisdale got bull rushed, knocked down and the DT stripped the ball as he was diving at Devito.

2.5 secs from snap to strip.

Yep. Every ounce of this play was on Tisdale and he knew it as he spent the next 10 seconds slapping himself in the face. I give Ellis a shot on that play alone. He A) wont be bull rushed like that just from his physical size and B) players need to start being held accountable for performance. I've really never seen a coach excuse so much mistake prone play and keep running the same kids out there.
