I'm sorry but McDonald blows...

OK..I get you're upset. The fact remains if we win next week, we are going bowling for the third year in a row. Considering the staff turnover and the loss of upper classmen (especially at key spots), I'm ok with that. MY biggest concern is the lack of linemen. The grunts make the world go round in football. We are lacking, so far. Our offense will be dynamic next year. I'd bet on that.
I'm not upset. I'm tickled that others are so upset.

Play calling is not rocket science. I am not a football coach but I know that if my offense could run 15 plays and execute consistently, those are about the only plays I would call, albeit out of some different formations.

Second thing is that I don't understand the constant changing of personnel. The hurry up offense dies as soon as you sub because then the defense has to be given a chance to sub.

It seems nobody gets in a rhythm and gets enough snaps to get comfortable with anything.

Watch BC today, how many times did their stud Rb come out of the game? Not very often.

Watch SU today, How many plays was Jerome on the sideline? A ton.

Marrone said that as an OC that the hardest thing to do is stick with something that is working, running the same play over and over until they stop it. Our OC clearly has not learned this yet.

Again, it's not rocket science. I was shaking my head int he first half when we were driving and down to a 3rd and 1 and we try to throw a slant instead of run Jerome or a QB draw. That was the moment I knew we would lose the game. If you are going to throw the slant on 3rd and 1 then go for it on 4th down, both are gambles.

STILL SMH at this game.

It's not? Do you know what variations in all of their defensive formations Pitt was playing for each of these plays? Do you know what Pitts tendencies are for certain field positions? Down and distance? I think we as fans tend to think, "It's incomplete. I'd call this, or I'd call that." I don't think we are working with the same set of information.

We did not go to a bowl in 2011...so if we go this year it will be three years out of four.

Reminds me a lot of how lousy the offense was during your hero Marrone's first season. You remember--the guy you tirelessly defended at every opportunity no matter what the circumstances were.

Did he improve over time?

The Paulus offense was Oregon compared to this one.

Revisionist history. How quickly some forget how inept the Paulus offense actually was for the vast majority of that season.

I think that offense was better than this one. It would always shoot itself in the foot but it was a much more balanced offense. Paulus threw for over 2000, Carter ran for over 1000 and Williams averaged over 100 yards per game. I'd kill for Paulus and Williams this year.

The statistics don't bear that out.

But clearly Williams is better than anyone we have this year.

Stats can sometimes lie. Or be skewed by a Wagner. Carter that year was as good as Smith. Williams was clearly better thN anything we now have. And Paulus was much better than Hunt has been.

If we don't score at least 10 vs BC, which we will, it will be only the 4th time ever an ACC team hasn't scored 100 pts in conference.

Objective data lies a lot less than subjective interpretations.

There's nothing subjective about us gaining 600 yards vs Wagner. There's also nothing subjective really that Paulus and Williams would be a huge upgrade over Hunt and every WR. This years team scored almost 1/2 it's points against 2 teams. That's not subjective either.

I'm not saying the Paulus year was some juggernaut, because it wasn't. But I'd take it over this year regardless of raw data comparison.

As stated above, Williams is far superior to any playmaker we have on offense this year. I agree with your assessment of Paulus.

I've looked a bit deeper and these two offenses are so close it's scary. They are both ranked exactly the same nationally, 94th. While this year has 30 yards more pg, on a per play basis we were a measly .03 better in 09. That team fumbled more and got less turnovers so we ran 8 plays less per game which accounts for the total yards per game difference.

I just view that one as better because it was more diverse. Put Paulus and Williams on this team and we have a much better than 94th ranked offense. Put Hunt and West or Broyld on that team and it's worse than 94th.

Look at what you two are arguing about: what craptastic offense was less worse?! My God this program is a disaster.

You got something better you want to talk about?

It sure wasn't Oregon compared to this year's offense, the comparison that drew me into this discussion.

That I agree with. That was a bit of hyperbole by OPA.

What the hell do expect from GM? He is extremely handcuffed with Hunt. He's trying to make chicken salad from chicken .

Do you people realize how bad Hunt is or do you want to ignore it?

If Hunt was as bad as you say, Allen would be playing. When a coach desperately digs into his secondary for the next to last game of the season to get a receiver who has a chance of getting open and can actually catch the ball, I'd say the problem is not all on Hunt.

Yeesh.

If you're above the scrum, stay above the scrum and stop replying, right? All due respect, but you said it was funny and that you know who we are and it's silly to talk about - then stop posting.

Paulus at least threw some touchdowns

Our offense sucks every year but last year

year to year out of conference schedules are too different to compare.

Conference Play PPG YPG
2013 12.9 332.7
2012 30.4 460.4
2011 20.9 353.1
2010 16.6 274.1
2009 17.3 330.4

We are 116th in red zone TD % against conference opponents

http://www.cfbstats.com/2013/leader/national/team/offense/split07/category27/sort05.html

(We're dead last against ranked opponents but FSU and to a lesser extent, Clemson, will do that to you)

The short passing game is such a mess. Can't throw bubble screens down there.

i'm at the point of wondering if they should rotate allen in at the red zone. i know this is crazy and stupid but i still think it. I'm less worried about Ints there because we'll either turn over on downs or miss the FG anyway

Hunt can't make quick decisions and accurate short throws which is what you need down there.

Red zone td % in 2009 vs conference opponents was 58% (middle of the pack). This year it's 36%
