During his Monday press conference Dino was asked how this disappointing season has affected recruiting.

He said at one point that the kids now know that he will be here - that he will not be leaving.

I thought that was a remarkable statement.

Is it that Dino now realizes that all of the speculation of him being a candidate for the next job - that he did not dispel - had real impact on his ability to attract talent?

Or is it simply Dino acknowledging that this season has ended any chance he might have had for USC or FSU or another top ten program?

Or, has he decided that the time for gamesmanship is over - that to truly succeed here he must publicly and unequivocally commit himself to SU?

Or, is it that he really likes it here and simply does not want to leave?
Or, is it a combination of all of the above?

Whatever it is, I think he did himself and the Program right by being pretty unequivocal about his job at Syracuse University.

I would think he is more straight forward with recruits than he is with the media about whether he has plans to stay. Whether you mean it or not it has to be in a coach's best interests to tell a kid you plan on sticking around for a long time. And players/parents should be smart enough to pay more attention to what the coach says versus what the media/internet speculates.

I agree, but the operative word here is "should". People of a certain age and younger get (and believe) the stuff they read on social media.

What struck me was his comment that the kids “now know” that he is not leaving.

I guess my question is “what changed?”

Why is it that they “now know” that he is not leaving?

What changed?

Didn't he go on to explain that comment when he said that other programs used the possibility that he would be leaving SU to negatively recruit? Dino said that he has been telling recruits all along that he will be their coach at SU. Now, they are listening and believing because the poor season lends credibility to his staying (even though he has been telling them that he would be here).

Umm we stink this year, badly

I’m 99.9% sure he was referring g to how teams negatively recruit against him.

Unfortunately, now they'll move on to "he's getting fired." It never ends.

I kick this with last year Andre but because of the wind we gotta go for it.

I hate that the timeout means we’ll go shotgun give me the sneak.

Undoubtedly true.

Up to now the negative recruiting angle made some sense because he never really stated unequivocally that he was staying here.

Instead, he always seemed pretty coy about his future.

He finally seemed to indicate with some certainty that he was here to stay when the issue was raised on Monday

Never understood these type of threads. Every program could negatively recruit almost any other program by saying the coach has one foot out the door because almost every coach does. So many coaches around the country have claimed they weren't going anywhere only to be signing the dotted line somewhere new a week later. It never hurt their recruiting at a new place.
It's silly to think recruiting was down because of negative recruiting, it's not like we were recruiting at the top of the ACC and all of a sudden last year we dropped to near the bottom. Near the bottom is where we've been since DB has been here.

We've been literally one of the worst P5 programs since when P was fired. Of course a program could negatively against us saying Dino is leaving for X Y or Z

So... this is his dream job?

USC will never hire him. They want a splash hire. Also... even if i'm wrong, he'd never be allowed to bring most of his assistants with him.
