The worst part of that is that Shaw isn't even there anymore. If you have a beef it's with him and he is long gone, right?

We don't need those kind of fans.

Well then what's all the bitching about? We don't need them and they certainly could not care less.Let's just enjoy our half empty stadium that all of these idiots helped pay for and be done with it.

Anyone who gets that upset by an offhand remark in any situation to the point where they are angry about it 1 week later, much less a decade, are complete ****** idiots. Losers. They're actually worse than any word Shaw used to describe them. I can't imagine the effort it must take to be angry about something so minor for so long. The people you grew up with are clearly idiots.

It was far from some off hand remark. It was the last straw in a long line of things said and done by SU that convinced a large portion of the local population that they weren't serious about football. If they believe SU doesn't care, why should they? This is what I've gotten from them.Since they're all idiot losers, why is everyone getting so worked up over their absence? We don't need them, right?

We don't need them but they will be back as soon as SU is back in the winning program mode. Don't let them fool ya.

Waaaaa. They must be in diapers with all that crying over nothing. I don't care about their absence but it insults our intelligence that you would argue that people would get that bent out of shape over such trivialities. They're front runners who stopped supporting the program when it took a downturn and when the basketball team has a losing season they'll do the same thing then and blame on something someone they have never met said in the newspaper.

Babies. Idiots. They are losers. Complete losers and Ken Shaw was right.

"winning mode"might get you new fans. The people I'm talking about attended through the brutal suckiness that was 1970-early 1980s(far from front runners as your buddy likes to put it)many of them before that, but that was before my time and they were gone before the losing started again.Record won't make a damned bit of difference.

Why do you continue to rage on about something you claim to not care about? They're gone and we don't need them.Move on already.

No.But to be fair most of them were football fans from before the basketball program was any good.So I can't say for sure they would have stopped if they were basketball fans to begin with.

Hey not to change the topic (oh but it is the topic) - does anyone know if the IPF is back on track and they started digging or is now postponed until next year?

I saw a bunch of mirrors setup there and smoke was billowing out from the site.

Bravo. Unfortunately there are some Spiteful "die hards" out there who simply will find any excuse to bitch, moan, complain, be generally unsupportive. Why some chose/choose to punish the people that matter, ya know, the football program/players for something an administrator with very little athletic interests said 15 years ago is beyond me. Ridiculous, really. I don't care now and didnt care 15 years ago.

I dunno, put different people in charge, started pumping money into the football program... do they want handwritten apology letters from Dr. Gross? Maybe a Otto the Orange bandaid to cover their boo-boos?

I think your sarcasm is actually pretty close to what some expect. I mean are handwritten apologies by an administration thats been gone a decade too much to ask? Amazing that people still talk about this "Get a life" stuff.

And his comments were all boiled down to "He told us to get a life!"

"Look at your own personal life," Shaw said. "You go to work. Some days, you really achieve at a level you're capable. Some days, it's like having a career day and some days you might as well have stayed at home. All of a sudden, you look at the football team and they're never supposed to have one of those days? Let's join the human race and get a life."

Even if you take the last sentence and focus on that (without the abbreviations) he said "Let us join the human race and get a life".

ClkWrkOrange, please ask your friends to join the human race and get season tickets.

Come January, SU will have its second chancellor, a different AD and the third football coach since those comments were made. There have been major facility upgrades made or announced since then and the overall department is much more competitive than ever before. Other than JAB and John Desko, there aren't many others left from that era.

It may be time for those "friends" to "lighten up" on their stance.

I agree with what you are saying - there should be more of the local stuff to drive some ticket sales. But IMO the Yankee Stadium signage isn't dumb. It is highly visible and helps brand awareness - it also links a winner (usually) in professional sports with a winner (hopefully/usually) in college athletics.

Brand awareness is a fine metric for marketing success, but that then needs to translate into more. So now more people in the NYC area and those watching on TV from where ever know about SU (didn't realize there was an awareness issue in the first place, BTW). So when are they going to a) buy tickets b) donate or c) come play at SU if they are a big time recruit. Haven't seen the data that we're converting well in those three areas.

What am I missing? What's this "brand awareness" doing for you but making you loins wet?

We won't "convert" until the product becomes something they want to be affiliated with. It's not just brand awareness...it's brand affiliation too. Until Nike became cool, no one cared. I ran in my Nike Cortez back in the 70s but until Jordan ruled the earth, Nike was not necessarily the brand of cool that it became. Jordan and some others made it cool. "He was a winner. I wear Nike, now I am a winner." The awareness will only "covert" if people view the football team as cool like they do for hoops. (see games at MSG)

Under 25 days left in 2013. Don't know that anyone's going to beat this out for Post of the Year.

I will continue to fill 4 seats. What others chose to do is their business.

And they'd all forget about Shaw and his comment the instant the team was 10 - 1. Instantly, in a heartbeat, groveling in front of a scalper outside the Dome in the snow.

I for one hope that SU never does anything to get idiots like these back. They're the same S-heads who tell you to sit down.
Oh that may be so, but we could sure use those people in their seats while we are not 10 and 1 . I personally have been a season holder in both bball and football for almost forty years, but not everyone is like me. You have to treat most people like you value them and not ignoring and denigrating their opinion. You don't have to follow it but you can not just say"get a life". Even I was insulted by that statement.

You do not get it. The old adage that the customer is always right applies here as in all business. The university is trying to sell a product. Most fans(customers) do not owe them ANYTHING. You want people to buy your product, if they don't you go out of business.
