Is anyone confident we can have a winning team under Red next year?

I respectfully disagree,
The one thing Boeheim always did well was maximize the talent he had and designed an offense and defense that worked.
And because he always harped on defense we were seldom blown out like last night.
He didn’t always have great talent but only had one losing season, and that was just barely.
Red has managed to minimize the talent on the court
it is telling that the only 2 passionate players are the 2 transfers.
And that Cuffe ends up quoting a story from the Kansas coach to try and rally his teammates
Gerry brought the energy and street cred as a national champion.
Now that he and JB are both gone from the program, that street cred, passion and flat out respect for the coaches is gone.
i really dont think Red can fix this.
Breaks my heart to say this.
i just dont think he has what it takes to succeed as a top tier head coach

Wildhack has decision to make
Agreed on maximizing the talent regarding JB. How we even won 16 games and went 9-11 in the ACC with the roster we had in 2021-2022 was actually an amazing coaching job. We had great shooting, but was pretty awful in every other area of the game. On paper this roster should be atleast a tournament bubble team, that Boeheim could probably make a borderline top 25 team.

“’Winning’ team?”
Meaning .501?

Sure. And that won’t mean we’re good/acceptable/on the right track.

We aren’t winning with just the freshmen coming in and I have zero idea who’s worth keeping or who will stay.

We need a complete change in philosophy. We play meathead basketball. We can’t make 3’s and we don’t get enough shots at the rim.

Tonight was the 13th time in 21 losses where we have been beat by at least 15 points.

It feels like we are starting completely over again next season.
So, meathead basketball is inaccurate shooting and the inability to create good shots?

Meathead basketball is low percentage mid-range jumpers, dribble drives and not taking advantage of a three pointer being worth 50% more than a two pointer.

You’re joking correct? JB‘s zone needed an active, shot blocking player in the middle who could also get out to the corner. That’s not Lampkin. He liked big , long rangy guards. We don’t have them. Donnie and Chris are kind of made for the zone. To think JB would make this a top 25 team is laughable. They started the season in most rankings outside the top 100. There’s only one ACC team currently in the top 25.

What you really need in this new era is not to let people walk the ball up the floor.
You need to pressure at least 3/4 court to make teams work harder to get into their sets.
Give them less time to get good shots.
Pressure should give you more opportunities for steals, and easy points.

It seems apparent that he can't really coach. He has a poor feel for the game.

He doesn't discipline players who don't play hard on defense, and so none of them do.

Nobody gets stronger under our S&C program.

I don't see how they risk having him here for another year, to be honest.

While I don't necessarily disagree with this, but if NO ONE plays hard, (and I'm not sure I'd go that far), who do you put on the floor? You have to put 5 guys out there.

The thought of this team trying to play zone defense the way JB wanted is crazy.

This team is atrocious on D. Atrocious in this year's version of the Red's zone. And JB might literally ask fans in the stands to come play if they tried to play the zone he wanted.

Not true.

There was a stretch of about a minute and half last game where there was focus and effort on D.

Eddie was even fired about it and was wooing the fans to get loud.

As quickly as the focus and effort appeared, it disappeared like a fart in the wind.

Somebody misses a shot and dogs it back down court and everyone's effort drops.

In any event, we see occasional glimpses of what this team is capable 5% or so of the time.

It's the other 95% that is the problem.
