Is SU Looking at Any JUCOs?

I would think they would be looking at a DE at least.
Really? With a healthy Donnie Simmons (who was a projected starter pre injury) we will have 5 legit DE's and that's not including Trevon Trejo. They are looking to bring in 1 HS DE as well ( Chrid slayton )

I haven’t seen us serious with any but that could change after they re-assess the roster in the next few weeks. We certainly do not seem to be lining up any mid year juco’s except for Wayne Williams. I would guess if we do grab a juco it would be at DT or OL.

Besides Wayne Williams, if they do take a JUCO i hope it's the type of guy that can start immediately, rather than the depth JUCO's that we took last year. I really want those depth slots filled with RF's, Frosh and Soph's. The tough thing with JUCO's is if they aren't able to RS a year like Goggins did or have more than 2 years to play like Lasker, they basically spend a year learning the playbook and then you get a SR year out of them and they're gone.

barnwell dominated one of our o-lineman is the all-star game...palmar

We did well last year with "depth" guys -- Kelly, Kirkland, Achinega all contributed; Lasker might be a starter in 2014 & 2015; can't say about Trejo but I expect he will be in the rotation if Johnson or Thompson moves inside.

Last year, around this time, the board didn't have much info about jucos. Then, the action started. Of course, Adkins made a lot of that happen.

These kids all contributed quite a bit this season and I'd expect Kelly, Arcineago and Lasker to be starters next year. Maybe even Miller at center and I sure wouldn't count out Kirkland starting either.

As far as JUCO's go this was a pretty darn good haul.

I suspect we're going to be moving away from the JUCOs. I don't get a sense that our current staff is geared up for JUCO recruiting.

Not sure if Arciniega starts now after seeing how Hodge has looked.

Hodge Dyshawn and Lynch is a very solid core, and Arciniega gets some snaps on obvious running downs.

Does Lynch play MLB in this scenario?

Not sure but i'm also not sure if Arciniega is the answer there... Hoping another year in the system allows him to flow to the ball rather than thinking too much.

i think Arciniega is soild but hodge is a player. Once he gets a full year of S&C he will be a stud. with Zaire, Colton, Parris. bright future for LB's

Agreed on Hodge. Is he definitely slated for the middle though? He's a bit short in there, but bigger weight wise than listed and sure does bring it.

he is, but he still can add on another 15 pounds and still be just as fast. He has the instincts despite his lack of height

Wonder if Ollie Vigille is going to get a shot.

Lynch would have to move inside with that group. No way Hodge plays Mike at 210.

Hodge will be 225 by next summer. Hodge clearly has more upside. i think he is better than Arciniega now. Arci doesnt run laterally as well as hodge. Hodge is a better tackler. Arci is just bigger. Bigger is not better. Im not saying that he will start over him but I wouldn't be surprised if I saw his name first on the depth chart come next sept. I would prefer to have Arci as the starter and hodge in there for situational. Then the following year he can take over until Colton is ready

What about Lynch? I think he'd be a very good fit.

I think lynch will be much more effective by staying at the position he's played for 3 years instead of learning a new position in the middle. Having two good experience OLB's can help transition a new starter in the middle. IMO

Spruill played the MIKE at around the same size. They are playing him at the middle now when in a 3-4. I think he could do it. I like Arciniega, I think he would be solid, but Hodge is a potential game changer. One play stood out from BC that made me question LA. It was right after Spruill got dinged up. One of the first plays after Retting got the corner on him and pulled away. Granted he pulled away from a few guys, but LA had the angle. i couldn't help but think at that moment that Hodge would have made the play. Still like I said LA is more then serviceable. Good problem to have, and we are only getting stronger. Shafer said when he got hired he believed that LBer was the most important defensive position when attacking these spread offenses. He is showing the importance the way we are recruiting. We are set up for some very strong LB play going forward
