Is there an average team, anywhere in this country

Just watched Red's postgame press conference. It's concerning that Red's only worry about the game was transition defense. He played down concerns about the defense in general. Finally, he could not articulate the team's identity. What is our identity???

Yeah, I have always thought that was spin. I pray it was. Because, otherwise it is poor evaluation.
The kid is small, slow and can’t shoot. I don’t know how any evaluation could put him as anything more than a backup, 10-12 mpg, at best.

But it’s just as bad that he was basically our last option. No frosh PG, no ability to recruit a transfer and so on.

I am not an insider, but I can't argue against any of that.

Although it’s only two games and we have a lot of new pieces. I have a lot of concerns with the staffs talent evaluations. I said this during the offseason numerous times. If we make the tournament or come close it would be a miracle coaching job by Red which would be a good thing. Because it would mean he can coach the guys up.

Unfortunately, I will be surprised if we finish over .500. I guess the only question mark is Westry and he hasn’t played in 2 years. But that’s the only change that could possibly change this trajectory.

that we could give a good game to? Not win. That is off the table. Just give them a good game.
Scare them. What bothers me most is the evaluation of Carlos. To compare him with Tyler
Ennis, as some in the program were doing. ????????????????

Agree with the first point. I would throw in the evaluation of 75 percent of the roster. Carlos wasn’t the only one getting blown by yesterday. The next time Lampkin is on time for defensive rotation will also the be the first time he is on time.

The entire team has absolutely no idea how to defend anyone.

Ok, now Im worried when Dasher is making posts like this. Not disagreeing with the OP but I sense the 5 alarm bells are starting to go off for more folks.

He just can't guard anyone. And that must be frustrating for his teammates who are out there deing it up.
Agree about Carlos, but not sure which teammates are d-ing it up. They’re basically all getting blown away.

That was a joke

he played more defense than his entire roster vs colgate

he knows its bad...just trying to deflect...

Well the guy does have 11 assists to 2 turnovers so why don’t you cut him a little slack.

Because he can't stay in front of the guards he has played so far. They just blow right by him. And these weren't ACC guards. And as I said, what bothers me the most is the ridiculous comp to Ennis. You see Ennis in Carlos?

He’s certainly no Ennis, but do we have a better option at the point? Starling has more turnovers than assists in his career, Moore has never been a primary handler, and Cuffe doesn’t look like the answer at point. You have a solution, Dash?

I actually liked Moore at point guard.

Consider me surprised and skeptical, but I'd like to see another look.

No, I just don't see him as bad a player as you do. He definitely needs to step up the defense. He must have shown something to have been an all conference defensive player. The competition he went up against couldn't have been much worse than what we've played so far so I am, like you, very frustrated with that.

A possible conclusion is that last year Carlos knew what he was supposed to be doing, and this year he isn't comfortable in the scheme and isn't playing instinctive defense as a result.

Guys who are thinking about what to do are slower than guys who know what to do.

They have one more cupcake game before we find out how bad we are.

A lot can be accomplished in a week of practice and a game. Hopefully the defense isn't embarrassing by the time we play Texas.

I hope and pray you're right.

Really good post.

Defense is about scheme and effort.

I'd be happy to see either at this point.

I hope no one actually thought Carlos was the answer, we just wiffed on everyone else. Then paid lampkin whatever he wanted and I tuned out. But hey at least we beat toothpaste.

I don’t understand how you expect to win without a serviceable PG, everyone saw this problem coming for a full year yet here we are.
Check out his recruiting thread. You'll see who expected what.
