Is there an average team, anywhere in this country

Human voting is subjective. But how else can you do it? Plus, maybe he wasn’t the best but being voted the best means as a minimum he was one of the best.
I don't know, but that's why we're having the conversation because there isn't an exact science to it.

But I trusted the adjusted defensive numbers for the ACC a heck of lot more than his defensive awards.

We could go on for years about awards going to the wrong people, including a lot of our players who've been snubbed.

This is why the whole program needs a refresh. If people that were seeing them play thought they were better, it means one of two things:

1) The people who saw them play don’t know a thing about basketball. Then, assuming said people are close to/inside the program, it’s the same old same old that we kept hearing over and over during the final years of Boeheim.

2) The players are better than last year but the coaching stinks. And that is another direct indictment on the coaching staff.

I actually think both could be true. Also, the point guard thing was an issue a MILE away. “Coaches love him” is a bigger issue than people want to see/say.

Or, the players need to adjust to being here and maybe get out of their own heads.

I've read numerous comments that Hofstra's "system" hid Carlos' flaws. That's what good coaches do, recruit to YOUR system. Also, what is our system? We do not pressure, press, packline, zone, etc on defense. We have no system, nor do we hold anyone accountable when mistakes are made. Some think we'll out talent other teams with next year's class. I have news for you...

Relying on freshman and mid major transfers I'm not sure yields the results people are expecting.

Maybe. Maybe not. We have to let this play out a lot more. Very rarely do rash judgments turn out correct. We have looked awful in the first two games. There can be no positive spin on that. But I thought Red did a really good job with that team of misfits last year. Some of the best coaches have got off to horrible starts. I agree there has been plenty to dislike and to question at this point. We could very easily be 0-2. Against LeMoyne and Colgate. At home.
I have absolutely seen enough.

And who's it on to make sure the players are comfortable in playing within the system you implement? That's what coaching is all about.

It's the player. And that dude is lost.

You should have been the A.D. at Duke when they hired that horrible Coach K. year 1 17-13 year 2 10-17 year 3 11-17 no ncaa. Or the A.D. at Nova when they made that horrible pick in Coach Mass. year 1 7-19 year 2 9-18 year 3 16-11 no ncaa. Look, we couldn't look worse. And there is a legit question about whether Red can coach. But you have to let a guy get his team. Recruiting has picked up from the JB years. No question about that. And anyone that has ever hired someone for a top position knows, and I have in my past, you don't have success making snap judgments.

If it's the player, then who recruited him? Who coaches him? Who put together the roster to allow it be the only player at that position that is a viable option?

Win, lose, or draw, unless there are a myriad of injuries it's the coach's fault. These kids are 18-22 years old.

It is a completely different landscape in college basketball and college athletics.

You can overhaul a team in one offseason. We have. It's his team. He chose to keep JJ. He chose to keep Bell. The rest of the team are his guys and recruits. I don't understand.

You're right, he's the only athlete in the history of sports to get in his own way.

That being said if he cannot get it going now he needs to sit.

Okay, you would have moved on from Bell and JJ? Is that what you are telling me? I couldn't disagree more with that. We don't have the pick of the litter out there. Or you can just make up names and say that is who we could have got.
