that you can't field a top notch D1 Football team on a private school budget.

I seriously feel like I am being duped into spending money on tickets to watch this team play.

What was the last private school that was able to play for the playoff or national championship?
Notre Dame 2012 and before that Miami in 2001, things have changed since then.

Can't even be competitive on a shoestring budget unless you want a 10 win season every 15-20 years.

Sad.

Money spent is fine. New facilities. Dome upgrades. Coaching staff decently paid. The problem is Dino needs to get the right people both on the sidelines and on the field...

Needs to hire new offensive and defensive coordinators. And some new assistant coaches that specialize in recruiting.

Notre Dame, last year.

Here are the FBS private schools.
Baylor, Boston College, Brigham Young, Duke, Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, Southern California, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas Christian, Tulane, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Difficult to field a champion, but there are plenty of top-25 schools in this list.

We are not asking for a championship. We are asking for a competitive team.

This is just factually wrong.
It’s all about location of talent.
NY State doesn’t produce the quality of athletes for footballs FL, TX, CA even though the state has a high population.
NY does produce basketball talent each year though.

Why can’t we have a championship?

And we don't have that...and we also don't have even competitive living quarters for football players compared to FCS schools.

The roof won't mean a thing if the kids don't actually see and feel the benefits of coming here.

The roof on the dome is like the roof on your house. If it breaks or doesn't keep the water/snow out you have to replace it, it's not like having a roof with bells and whistles benefits the kids at all. You have to have a roof on a domed stadium.

Football athletes are still living in facilities that were built back when...the 70's, 80's...

I seriously feel like I am being misled and fleeced

Syracuse is only 250 miles from Penn State, and they seem to find plenty of in-state talent.

Is PA football really that much more competitive that NY?

In a word, yes. They are a huge land grant university with unlimited funds with more history and tradition than we have. Yes they are scumbags in recent history but that clearly doesn't stop top notch athletes from going there.

Next question.

It's not the scheme it's the Talent.
Yep it is. And SU makes half hearted attempts to cater to talent.

Dino will be gone soon when he realizes the administration really doesn't care about being competitive over being profitable. At the expense of the fans.

Yes
Pitt and Philly area have huge amounts of talent
Pitt, PSU, and Ohio St clear out the Allegheny region each year and so much better then what NY puts out.

I was talking about in-state HS talent, not their overall recruiting. NY produces a handful of five-star recruits every year and they go to out-of state programs. And not for better on-campus housing. They go where they think they can win.

New York has only 2 four star recruits in the entire this year.

That is tiny for a State with the population of New York.

I didn't realize the talent levels had gotten so low in NY. Are the big downstate programs (LI and NY suburbs) not attracting top athletes? Maybe the reality of CTE is finally pushing parents to steer their kids to non-contact sports. Maybe it really is the end of FBS football in NY.

I am sure it has to do with the danger of football. Also basketball and lacrosse are the top sports for kids in NY and sadly kids aren’t playing all sports and just specializing in one.

if NYS produced more high quality athletes we would recruit better.
