It's becoming Increasingly Clear

This is 100% accurate. Syracuse treats athletics like its piggy bank. The checks come in and there is minimal reinvesting. They do the bare minimum to keep the program somewhat relevant. No one wants some over the top thing like sec schools are doing but we do want more then the bare minimum. If anyone thinks Syracuse is blowing out walls to make a big concourse or widening hallways I have snow in January to sell you. the “renovation” is a bandaid they had to do. Enough is enough properly fund this football team or not. We have a choice to support it and if this keeps going down this path fewer and fewer of the diehards will show up. They gave Dino money last year, now give him a bigger budget for real assistant coaches. Go out and build a state of the art building for the players to live in and enjoy their time. Actually improve the locker rooms more then some cheap wood Lockers and paint. Invest and you will Get recruits and wins. If Minnesota can do it then we can. They play outside in one of the coldest areas in the country. Lastly no one better say they don’t have the money, they do simple as that. su isnt South Harmon university They are one of the biggest private schools in the county. It’s time for them to fund a program the school and its fans can be proud of. Enough is enough!

Putting a roof on the dome is like putting a roof on your house.

When the roof on your house is aged and needs replacement do you just not do it? It doesn't make your house worth any more money does it? It's a necessity, regardless of how much you spend like putting tires on your car, the car doesn't go anywhere without tires. A domed stadium doesn't work without a roof.

Stop acting like it is some sort of major accomplishment that they are re-roofing a building. It's a requirement.

If they were spending 115 million on facilities designed to bring in recruits like other schools, bravo I am all in. But they aren't, they are doing the bare minimum to keep the rain off the fans.

Stop it, Venables makes 5 times more than every assistant coach we employ.

Here are the FBS private schools.
Baylor, Boston College, Brigham Young, Duke, Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, Southern California, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas Christian, Tulane, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Difficult to field a champion, but there are plenty of top-25 schools in this list.

We are not asking for a championship. We are asking for a competitive team.
Isn't Pitt private too? I didn't think it was part of the Pennsylvania state system.

I never said they don't care, I am absolutely sure they care. about and want to be good. I just don't believe they will do what it takes and invest to be good. Every other program that is good, has made the commitment and investment, SU just won't.

And what I said was, I am certain they care about being profitable and run the program like that is their goal.

“Dino will be gone soon when he realizes the administration really doesn't care about being competitive over being profitable. At the expense of the fans.”

My brother was at that game. We consistently were competitive with the best teams in the country and were on par with them. We beat Florida and Spurrier never came back. We could consistently compete with the blue bloods, now we just can't.

Not unless something drastic changes.
We had bowl wins over Ohio St., Georgia, Colorado, Clemson, Kansas St., Kentucky, Arizona, LSU, won at Michigan, destroyed Wisconsin in the kickoff classic, etc., et al. It was a glorious time.

We played Florida a few years later and got boat-raced.

Minnesota is a State school with an enrollment of 48,000 and an endowment of almost $3.8 Billion. The metro population of Mpls/StPaul is over 3.6 million.

SU has an enrollment 1/2 as large (almost 23,000), an endowment only 1/3 as large ($1.3 Billion), and a metro population 1/6 as large (660,000).

As far as private schools go ... Stanford has an endowment of $26 Billion. Notre Dame has $13.8 Billion. Duke has $8.5 Billion.

You really think it's that simple?

Pitt is a state school.
Sort of - it's state-related (since the 60's), whereas PSU is state-owned. Pitt is a hybrid, publicly funded but not owned by the state, hence the appellation - "state-related".

If you don't want to run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

Then don't pretend you want to compete, just be transparent.

I am pretty sure that the local fans who frequent the dome on Saturdays that make up more that 50% of those that show up will abandon this program in droves.
Do you really think that the majority of people who buy SU tickets are only doing so because they expect the Orange to compete for national championships?

I think you need to think about why you’re a fan. If it’s solely based on being able to win a national title, you may want to root for someone else.

And the program was more poorly funded in the 90s than it is today. That’s not really debatable.

The OP will react to your supplying these facts in one of 2 ways:

1.) His (her) head will explode
2.) He/She will disappear from the thread, if not the forum

I will double down on that statement and back it 100%, I don't think they care about winning. I think Wildhack does because it's his job to care and his department.

I think they care about making it look like they care and investing just enough to say they did something. But a total wholehearted investment in trying to be the best team in college football, Nope.

I think the program has been neglected for a long time and they are throwing band-aids at the situation now.

Didn't they just complete a $2 Billion dollar fundraising campaign a few years ago? How much of that was earmarked for athletics?

Yeah it is that simple. A few extra million a year isn’t going to drive the university into a financial crisis. Start by actually funding the staff properly. Then take those millions that were just donated and put that towards housing for the team. This will be a huge boost for recruiting. Screw the dome amenities for now. Slap the roof on and call it a day. Anything else they do will
Be cheaply done anyways. Put any extra money from worthless projects like connecting the dome towards real locker rooms. Give them the tools they need. All the issues over the years is caused by the school. Not giving marrone an Ipf. bringing in cantor and gross set us back big time. Half assing hire after hire has crippled the staffs. In this day and age of internet the “only horse in town” thought process is an antiquated joke of a thought. If the school wanted a winning program they would figure out a way to fund it. How does nova compete in basketball. Let’s bring that ad in here and let him work his magic. He clearly gets how to get things done with a small budget. Where there is a will there is a way. This school is not serious about funding football and it looks like it’s even allowing the basketball team to circle the drain also. It’s time to stop talking about other schools dumpster fires and realize we are the dumpster fire of the acc and the only people to blame for that is the board and the university. This is not on Dino.

The Lally family just made a one-time $25 Million donation to the Athletic Dept.

Alabama boosters donate $25 Million every single year.

You really think this is an arms race we can win?

youre all over. First you say SU doesn’t care. Then you say you never said that. When proven that you did, now you double down. You’re clueless. SU cares about football and has been investing in it.

I'm pretty sure the BoT and the University have greater priorities right now than putting solid gold pee troughs in the players lounge.

We never played for national championships. (Don't give me 1959).

I think its pretty much indisputable that Syracuse's best two players since Ernie Davis were Donovan McNabb and Dwight Freeney. From that time, 1995-2001, we never ended a season ranked higher than 14th, won 10 games only once, and won only one New Years' Day bowl game (the Gator in 95).

I am not sure what your expectations are? The AD has, and spends, more money on football than at any time in program history. Is this one of those flakey posts advocating that we drop down to FCS, D-3, or just stop playing football altogether?

We theoretically “could have” competed for an NC in the 90s. We were considered a dark horse contender a few times. We beat basically every top level program at some point between 87-01. We produced a ton of good NFL players and first round picks. We were in the ballgame, at least.

We shall see, I am pretty good at guessing and I would bet that in 2-3 years Babers is not here.

There are more than enough places for him to land that will pay him more each year and provide better support than this school does.

I will put an alert on my calendar for 2021 and make sure I post here.
I'm pretty good at guessing too, and I'm guessing that you're a troll.

This is terribly shallow of me, but near the top of the many reasons I severely dislike the term Cuse if because it often used by Syracuse newbies.

And on this forum, just about anyone who uses Cuse in their name is either a troll, about 13 years old or a certified lunatic that thinks college athletics at SU are a zero-sum proposition.

Exactly my point, if it was a real thing that would attract recruits I think Alabama and Clemson would have it in the budget.

I really don't care what you think, I am a pissed off fan sick of having a less than mediocre program that fumbles around like they are in the dark looking for a cheap way to catch lightening in a bottle.

I also have been on this board a lot longer than you and we shall see what happens with Babers in 2-3 years.

you don’t know how college sports work. Schools don’t pay for athletic facilities. Donors do. Go find me one where the school paid for it.

They won’t be profitable if we continue to post losing seasons. There’s a reason why they’re investing money in the Dome, and it’s not just for basketball, lacrosse and hosting graduations, among other events.

I don't think 5 months should be considered "a lot longer". What could that lengthy 5 month difference in your stays on this board possibly have to do with anything? Seriously, what does this even mean?

here’s what I think. Facts don’t lie. We played exceptional vs duke and took them out behind the woodshed. You had like 2 posts. Both negative. Not a single POSITIVE post about anything in the game. We lose to lville and you’re over 50 posts. All negative. You get off on su losing.
