It's becoming Increasingly Clear

I was talking about in-state HS talent, not their overall recruiting. NY produces a handful of five-star recruits every year and they go to out-of state programs. And not for better on-campus housing. They go where they think they can win.
Yep...and when fans don't think we can win, what do you think players think??

Oh just stop
We used to historically kick Clemson's A$$ when we played them. What is happening now. THey are playing for national championships, we are playing for the occasional bowl game every few years.

What is the difference? Commitment from leadership and dollars invested.

Syracuse cares about being positive on cash flow and profitable from an AD perspective, Clemson cares about winning championships and invests accordingly. Syracuse simply doesn't.

Lally's gift will be wasted because the commitment from the AD will not match what is given.

Mark my words. I will be happy to eat crow, 10 years from now we will be in the exact same spot. Fighting for the occasional bowl while Clemson and others are playing for national championships.

It’s not a lack of talent in ny the problem is the lack of games and practices that are allowed. Players are not able to develop like over states with more games and practices. I also think Dino is having problems recruiting locally and that included Nj and pa.

Here are the FBS private schools.
Baylor, Boston College, Brigham Young, Duke, Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, Southern California, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas Christian, Tulane, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Difficult to field a champion, but there are plenty of top-25 schools in this list.

We are not asking for a championship. We are asking for a competitive team.
TCU has had some great years, and Pitt (semi-private) too. Babers is your best bet in the short run (with the hiring of good assistant coaches on the staff). You need just a few more players here and there to turn the corner. Like Wake Forest, you may have to develop 3 stars into senior talent. Being in the ACC gives the private schools the $$ to compete and the publicity to recruit. Your history of great players plus a competitive BB team should give you some advantages that most others on the above list do not have. I think your future is bright.

Ummm... the multi-million dollar renovation of the Dome? The huge raise the assistant coaches got this year?

Putting a roof on the dome is like putting a roof on your house.

When the roof on your house is aged and needs replacement do you just not do it? It doesn't make your house worth any more money does it? It's a necessity, regardless of how much you spend like putting tires on your car, the car doesn't go anywhere without tires. A domed stadium doesn't work without a roof.

Stop acting like it is some sort of major accomplishment that they are re-roofing a building. It's a requirement.

If they were spending 115 million on facilities designed to bring in recruits like other schools, bravo I am all in. But they aren't, they are doing the bare minimum to keep the rain off the fans.

Stop it, Venables makes 5 times more than every assistant coach we employ.

Its coaching. We have plenty of talent.

You asked for evidence to the contrary. I gave you some. You decided to ignore it with your strawman.

Stop it.

You provided nothing.

Strawman ? Tell me how putting a roof on a building that needs a roof is major investment in the program.

If they didn't put a roof on the Dome, what would happen in a few years? They would have a useless building, right?

We never played for national championships. (Don't give me 1959).

I think its pretty much indisputable that Syracuse's best two players since Ernie Davis were Donovan McNabb and Dwight Freeney. From that time, 1995-2001, we never ended a season ranked higher than 14th, won 10 games only once, and won only one New Years' Day bowl game (the Gator in 95).

I am not sure what your expectations are? The AD has, and spends, more money on football than at any time in program history. Is this one of those flakey posts advocating that we drop down to FCS, D-3, or just stop playing football altogether?

What are we playing for then? I know what Clemson is playing for.

Tell Babers he is not playing for a Championship of some sort and I absolutely guarantee he leaves pretty quickly for a place that wants to invest and play for championships.

Dino isnt getting a sniff from any other school.

You attempt to win every game you play. If you are doing that, then technically, you are playing to win a championship. But in the BCS/CFP era, there have been 11 national champions, and all of those schools would be considered football factories. At least five of those schools have suffered significant set backs and are not playing at a national champion calibre level, and I can assure you it is not due to a lack of resources (see Texas for example).

I want a competitive team every year. Last year is probably close to a best case scenario. Play the best teams on you schedule tough (ND loss notwithstanding). Sneak out a win or two over a better opponent. Handle the peers. And beat up on the minnows. I'd expect the program to average around an 8-4 season with outliers in both directions. I am fine with that.

I can't speak to what Dino thinks/wants, but he's making really good money to be a glorified gym teacher (no offense to gym teachers, they just don't make $3m a year). I suspect he thinks that we were one possession away from having a strong argument for playing in a CFP playoff game last year, and maybe that can happen again. Since none of the aforementioned factories have openings, that's as good a route as any for a coach to have a shot at a Natty. I am also in the camp that he would have left for Auburn, USC, FSU, etc., if they became available to him.

Did you enjoy last year?

We shall see, I am pretty good at guessing and I would bet that in 2-3 years Babers is not here.

There are more than enough places for him to land that will pay him more each year and provide better support than this school does.

I will put an alert on my calendar for 2021 and make sure I post here.

That wouldn't surprise me, but unlike you, that doesn't bother me.

Are you an alum? This isn't Deep South State U. I am not sure how our alumni would feel if we spent $110m on mini golf courses, slides, and nap rooms for football players and coaches? Unless the Lallys, Weitsmans, etc. of the world privately funded it, I wouldn't dig it. Culturally, we are a very different place than Clemson, Alabama, LSU, etc.

This is just factually wrong.
It’s all about location of talent.
NY State doesn’t produce the quality of athletes for footballs FL, TX, CA even though the state has a high population.
NY does produce basketball talent each year though.

And you only need 2-3 good b-ball players to have a good team

If you don't want to run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

Then don't pretend you want to compete, just be transparent.

I am pretty sure that the local fans who frequent the dome on Saturdays that make up more that 50% of those that show up will abandon this program in droves.

Consistently kick Clemson's ass? We played them one time prior to joining the ACC, the Gator Bowl in 96 that we won 41-0. I don't think one game qualifies as consistently kicking their ass. That was a fun day though, led by Donovan McNabb.

you said the admin doesn’t care and that you are getting scammed out of your money. That’s your fault. Stop paying.
I never said they don't care, I am absolutely sure they care. about and want to be good. I just don't believe they will do what it takes and invest to be good. Every other program that is good, has made the commitment and investment, SU just won't.

And what I said was, I am certain they care about being profitable and run the program like that is their goal.

My brother was at that game. We consistently were competitive with the best teams in the country and were on par with them. We beat Florida and Spurrier never came back. We could consistently compete with the blue bloods, now we just can't.

Not unless something drastic changes.
