If you want to plat big boy football, a defensive co-odinator who was in charge for 3 years in the SEC and his defense gave up this kind of yardage on the ground would be packing up his office. There is no way you can justify this in year 3. What it really makes it look like is, of course they live with that at Syracuse because that are a basketball school. Because no real football school would let this go on.

A change is not needed. We are breaking in two LB and a freshman S. It happens.

Our pass D has been very good after struggling the past two years.

The plays are there to be made. Anomander nailed it above. We just probably have the worst LB unit in the P5 or close to it. It’s that bad. If anything it’s the recruiting.

Offense again wasn’t helping the D out and Dungey was atrocious at times.

Oh and regarding the title of the thread. If Wildhack "steps in" my guess is that it wouldn't take Dino long to step out. That kind of invasion is a slap in the face big time to a coach that knows what the heck he is doing.

I thought defense played pretty well against Clemson and helped keep us in the game. They didn't take the lead until near the end of the game. That's a credit to the offense but especially the defense IMO.

Hate to disagree but once Clemson realized they could run on us it was over.

I’ll add I don’t know why Ward thought we’d be better off in a 4:2:5 to get Cordy on the field but it was a big mistake imo. Really should’ve rolled with the 3 best linebackers. Cordy was never that good that we had to have him on the field. Yes teams in this league like to sling it around but it’s a power league and always has been. These teams will chew you up on the ground if it presents itself.

So now Cordys hurt but it looks like Trill steps into the nickle and we’re not gonna change.

I don’t know what the answer is but I might roll with Richards/Williams in the middle to get more size there, Guthrie at one outside spot and Armstrong Whitner rotating at the other outside spot. The 2 LB experiment sb over if it were me.

I don’t trust Dungeys inconsistent throwing enough to think we can outscore everybody. At some point we have to make a few stops.

I didn’t see any portion of the game after the delay (tv station went to regularly scheduled programming) but it wasn’t 4:3 early on that I recall.

If they went 4:3 with those guys and they got chewed up then we need better LBs.

If we were seeing no improvement, I’d co-sign a change. But what we’re seeing is a weak spot at LB, rather than some systemic issue with Ward.

Perhaps it’s not a matter of firing ward. The linebackers are struggling and the defense is struggling. Maybe it’s as simple as Dino and ward getting someone to handle the linebackers and he just goes back to focusing on d coordinator. Maybe he is stretched to thin with an inexperienced group of linebackers to do both. I’ve said a few times this year him running the same three into the ground is going to see these results. You have to put in the back ups and give the starters a rest. After the bye week I assume something has to change. Hopefully the guys and shy will be healthy and rested and we can get rolling again.

I’m not saying it was a great performance. I’m saying throwing out the baby with the bath water is dumb. If we saw no improvement and had SR LB from last year, your points would hold up more.

You do realize that after going 4-0. we were two downs from winning both games on the road. 4th and 6 and 4th and 3. SMH

Giving up the fourth and 6 was terrible. But they were number 3 on the road so, I'll not be too critical of them. But I very well could ask, how did we let a 3rd string QB do that???? Why not blitz for gods sake???

Losing to Pitt was inexcusable. We've been exposed on defense and the staff needs to figure this out. Hopefully they'll use the bye week to figure it out.

I mean this with all due respect to my admin friends it's time for the AD to demand Babers go in another direction when it comes to the DC. Ward has had some nice showings but the last two weeks are the last straw. Two teams who clearly have zero intention of throwing the ball just absolutely gashing us. If the starters aren't getting it done make a move, there's 10+ lbs on the roster. The last two drives by Pitt were an absolute embarrasement. Zero completed passes and yet they moved the ball at will. Enough with the excuses a change is needed, period.

So...we want Wildhack to lock in Babers right now oh my god what’s taking him so long?????!

AND

Throw down the hammer and tell Babers, who literally changed everything down to the strength and conditioning coach who presided during five different HCs what coaches to fire.
