Its time to stuff or get off the pot...

Really? I thought last year's collapse was the most painful season I've ever been a part of. I left the last game early. I NEVER leave a game early. It just pissed me off so much and hurt so bad, I couldn't stand sitting there anymore.

Marrone has at least made watching the team play football less painful.

I think that ranking is heavily affected by us playing #1 USC, and Mizzou on the road. And I'm sadly expecting we lose handily in each of those games. N'western was 6-7 last year, and Minnesota was 3-9. Maybe they're both tons better this year, but these aren't top 25 (or maybe even top 50) opponents we're talking about here. Yeah, it'd be easier if we were playing SouthCentralWesternSouthernState A&M at Podunkville instead of those two, but we're also not playing Oregon and LSU.

So I get that this OOC schedule looks tough in aggregate, but all we need is 3-2, and one of those wins would come from a 1-AA, to set us up to just not suck out loud against the BE to get a bowl bid.

I agree and a 3-2 OOC record would be great as far as I am concerned. However you have to remember that the same adjectives you used about NW and Minnesota unfortunately apply to us as well, were a 5-7 team and not exactly what others would consider a good team. The same thing were thinking about NW and Minn there fans are probably thinking the same about us.

At least we were collapsing from something.

The GumpRob era disaster of watching Penn State toy with us like a hungry lion toys with a maimed antelope was as painful as anything I've ever experienced as an SU football fan.

I completely agree. And that's why I keep making the point that our OOC schedule looks tough because we're not that good.

Do you not expect to beat NW (at home), a horrible Minnesota team, and an FCS team? I do. I'm not asking for a Mizzou or USC win. A well-coached team goes 3-2 vs this OOC schedule. I'm not asking for the world here.

It's on the road but IMO NW and 1/2 the BE is better than Missouri.

I won't disagree that the late season collapse was a bummer, but I base my opinion on total exasperation when watching gregger's teams. They played some of the least exciting football that I've ever seen an SU team play. Really little or no hope that they'd be competitive or provide anything in the way of entertainment.

The late season dump was discouraging, but they'd have to show a lot less than that imo to rank with some of those vintage 2005-2008 teams.

And let's keep in mind, instead of @WVU and home to TCU (what was supposed to be the 2012 schedule before we altered history) we have @Mizzou and @Temple.

Our schedule isn't as home friendly as it was supposed to be. But it's easier.

This may be the worst use of "vintage" that I've ever seen. ;)

Informal usage...

a. A group or collection of people or things sharing certain characteristics.
b. A year or period of origin: a car of 1942 vintage.
c. Length of existence; age.

Not meant in the sense that a superior wine might be described. So you're correct in that respect.

Its not even close to **** or get off the pot for Doug, just because it gets posted by some nitwit on espn.com doesn't mean he is on the hot seat or by someone on Syracusefan. Doug will be fine, sure if he went 3-9 he may have some issues but I don't see that happening.

I agree with this. I don't think SU will fire marrone even if he loses every game. The fact that he was hired in the first place suggests its not about winning. He is the worst coach in the BCS.

Stop, you're not supporting the narrative!!!

Now that would have been a biotch of a schedule.

Ive never said Doug was on the hotseat. What I am saying is that its time for real results. A 6 win season should no longer be the measuring stick for success. We have a full roster of bigger-stronger-faster players. We play in the weakest conference filled to the brim with schools that have gaping holes in their teams.

Conventional wisdom says we should be satisfied with 6 wins. I say its time to "stuff or get off the pot". Time for Doug to show us something special. My expectation is 8 wins.

I look at it this way. The Grob years were a total unmitigated disaster. Watching those teams was torture.

Marrone has at least made watching the team play football less painful.
So, I'm about to make what I suspect will be an enormously unpopular statement.

I didn't stop watching the games under GRob. I have stopped watching the games under Marrone. Why? Because watching Marrone's team is worse.

With GRob we were bad because we knew we were bad. I don't know that we could have been much better.

Marrone's conservative offense and reliance on the defense to give us a 4th quarter chance to white knuckle a win has basically shut me off until I see something different.

I feel more pain now because I think many of the choices our staff makes are not conducive to winning college football games, to say nothing of aesthetics.

Under GRob it was ugly because that's what we were. Under Marrone we're ugly by choice. That's worse to me.

Trying to figure out the low point in the modern SU era is like being an Oscar winner trying to figure out who to thank during your speech. So many, I don't want to miss anyone!

I think for me it's Washington 2007. Every season opener has uncertainty, especially since McNabb departed us. I had hope that season, but really didn't know what to expect. I just know I didn't expect that. It was one of those losses where the entire season came crumbling down right away. We looked so slow and awful that you immediately knew how bad a year it was going to be, and it didn't disappoint in that regard.

I still get excited about the opener, but that game is always in the back of my mind. Can't imagine it would ever happen again, at home, to a middle of the road BCS program. I definitely don't expect it on Saturday. Please no.

It's like reviewing a movie, a book, or music. I can't disagree with your take, but to me it has to do with the aesthetics of the game. Those (not to be named coach) teams just looked really bad. They took the beauty out of the game. Kind of like Mama Cass in a bikini. Marrone's teams, although lacking offensive excitement, still look better on the field than those NTBNC's teams. At least to me.

Hmm. Yes. Quite provocative indeed.

I'm still trying to get past the statement of SU being one of the Top 10 teams in college football history. I'm expecting somewhere between 5 and 7 wins this year.

watch the special on NFL network i believe we have been rated the 8th best program in the history of college football. And we are satisfied with Doug winning 5 games or some people actually would retain him if he only won 3-4 in my opinion they should be sent to rutgers

Wasn't 2007 the year we ran 147 plays on the goal line against Iowa and didn't score?

Yeah, that season sucked.

I guess someday I'd like to quit leaning on the "Rebuilding" crutch and just expect this team to win winnable games.

I've been watching Syracuse football all my life. What you are asking for has never been our calling card with then exception of the early Mac years. Granted, I missed the NC and much of Bens years. But we invented the "What loss".

NYC is not a road game. You don't watch enough hoops. ;)

My expectations are that Syracuse should win every game they play and if I feel that we don't have a chance, then the whole program is not doing the job. Now I'm not saying that they will go undefeated each year but on each Saturday (going old school here) I expect this team to win. This year I feel that and that even includes the USC game and believe me, I have not had this lovin feeling in a long time cause I did lose it at the end of P and the whole Robinson debacle.

I start from this point every year. I think we'll know pretty quickly what we're dealing with
