Looks like the future is Jakhari. Maybe we get lucky this time. (LaNorris Sellers turns out to be a future Sunday player flipped by USC. Never had a chance against home cooking.)
Anybody know how he is doing?
Edit:
Just spent the morning watching all of his HS highlights and reviews. Everyone comments on his strong arm which looks like it on his film. He looks fast (enough) and has some moves. Looks like he throws a catchable ball.
Led his team to the GA Independent School AAAA State Championship. Named player of the year. Also won State Championship in the high jump so he is a legit elite athlete.
Anytime we get one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Georgia w e have something special.
He has had a year to learn and will have spring and fall practice so hopefully he will be ready. Hope so we can spend our NIL money on lineman!
We be better off in the long run to develop if we can.

We need a portal guy to start next year, can’t toss this kid in against next year’s gauntlet unless he is just special great. Hope he is ready to be QB2 and hope he stays of course
Maybe so maybe not. Lanorris has gone wild this year and theyre 2 plays away from being in the playoffs. That LSU loss was legit the worst officiated game I've ever seen in my life and Sellers was out for the 2nd half. With him in the game they were destroying LSU

Yeah it certainly can happen I just think the odds are against it. They got royally screwed in that LSU game. They are a handful, between Lanorris, their freshman RB and especially that defense, their defensive front is epic

Are we going to be Portal QB U and pay for a top QB in the portal every year? I think if we bring in another portal QB to start then Jakhari will more than likely hit the portal. We need to decide what kind of program we are going to be in that position and what are philosophy is going to be going forward.

I think we'll do it once more.

Way too early to worry about this.

And given that there are three QB commits in next year's class (including the LAX kid), it appears every effort will be made to develop talent in house.

At least. Ideally you want to develop and retain but until longterm contracts are collectively bargained, every kid is an annual free agent so not so easy to develop and retain

It would certainly be ideal, Honestly, long-term dual threat quarterback with primary pocket responsibilities would be ideal. Those type of quarterbacks are however very difficult to find. I was thinking the exact same thing about improved line play. No matter what we better be able to establish to run next year, Kyle has been a literal gem, I do not think it would be wise on our ability to find another quarterback of this caliber next year in the portal. I am hoping he is on the current roster where we really rely on solid running, and improved defense

Pull a Marrone:
  1. get a 1 year transfer from the portal
  2. give Jakhari a series each half (If possible. Maybe not against Tennessee)
  3. have Jakhari finish up games when we're ahead
Do that, and Jakhari could be a 3 year starter moving forward, a la Ryan Nassib.

I saw him play in person last year. He's got an arm!

Would be great if Jakhari can get some pt against UConn. Get in some snaps and still saved his eligibility.

I think we need to be the kind of program that hits the portal hard every cycle, including at QB. This is the the best way to leverage Fran Brown's recruiting chops, IMO. We need playmakers, linemen, and depth. And we need to stack class after class after class to compete with the top of the ACC.

Agree, spend NIL on retention and portal and use high school recruiting for depth and development

I think that we are going to roll with the QBs we have and spend the coin on OL and DL LB and RB

This is purely anecdotal but it seems that most QBs that are gonna be really good are ready to start by their second year unless they're buried behind a star. Give him a year of strength and conditioning, acclimation to college, and spring practice, and he should be good to go. If he's not, I hope Fran recruits over him this off season. It would be nice to have QBs in the program that can be 2-3 year starters, so we don't have to rely on annual hired guns.

Looks like the future is Jakhari.

What makes you say that? Just curious.

I mean -- hope you're right. But there's not really any information - anecdotal or otherwise - to make that claim, yet.
