Jay Wright is my choice for SU’s new coach.

Let’s assume that was true. He’d just return to Nova where the opportunity is much better
The opportunity is much better? Don’t agree with that. In the long run, the P5 football playing conferences are a better bet than the basketball-only Big East. That said, I totally agree that if Wright were to return to college (I don’t see that ever happening), he would just go back to Nova—because that’s where he has decades of familiarity and loyalty built up and is a school legend and has built in knowledge of the program and the stakeholders there. Not because Nova is a better program than Syracuse. Nova only stayed relevant because of Wright’s incredible coaching acumen and the momentum he built for the program.

We are talking about Jay Wright here nothing more.

Coaching acumen for sure. However, it wasn't until he started to lure and get top talent during his later stages at 'Nova when he attained such status. Several of his key players are/remain on NBA rosters in Archidiacono, Hart, Brunson, DiVincenzo, Bridges, etc.

As a side note, Jay was an assistant coach at the u of Rochester and travelled around the state recruiting for the team

100%. In order:
1. Hendricks
2. Maxwell
3. Carnegie

I think Hendricks has been unlocked every time I’ve tried it. Maxwell and Carnegie are like 50/50 depending on timing.

I always just try to be respectful and make it quick.

Respect my decision.
No interviews.

Recruiting momentum is so important in college basketball. We lost ours with the sanctions and then struggled to get it back because JB isn’t engaged enough and rarely travels for recruiting, except summertime.

Everyone will be highly disappointed when Red Autry is named next head coach. JB has total control over the basketball program.
We aren’t going outside of the family, Jim will not allow it. Wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t end up in an executive role to still have his fingerprints on the team.
Also JB has to retire first. There will be a whole new crop of young coaches to look at by the time that happens. Current names are just moot at this point.
It will be Red

I agree that recruiting momentum is very important.

However, I was one of those here (along with Alsacs, where has he been by the way) that maintained the position that the sanctions were a mere fraction of the far larger contributing factors to our talent deterioration. That crux being, numerous swing and misses on the recruiting trail, especially at the lead guard and 5 position, in addition to your last sentence.

Agreed. Also compounded by losing Hop as lead assistant.

I don't have an answer, but if it's anyone on the current staff I will probably watch Syracuse basketball less than I already do, which keeps getting less and less as the last few years have rolled on.

If it’s going to be Red, then why not announce it?
Because he doesn’t want anyone to know when he plans on retiring. He wants to just do it after a season and be done. No fan fair or adulation of any kind.
I don’t know this for a fact but from what I have gathered over the years from reading and listening to his interviews.

Wright's not coming here. On top of the reasons already mentioned, one of the things he liked most about Villanova is that it was so low on the Philly sports food chain (despite its success) that no one ever bothered him when he went out in public. No way he gets that in Syracuse.

Tang is very much a man of faith, and I'm not sure how well that would go over in CNY. He also has absolutely zero ties to the area, but give him a couple assistants who know the northeast and he'd be more than fine. Ultimately though I think he wants to aim higher.

I can be the next coach for a lot less money and when i fail they can roll the savings into the next next coach and be way ahead.
