JB can still Coach

Candidly...who the heck cares? Look, I would not know Gutierrez on the street if I fell over him but those comments from Boeheim last night were completely out of line.

Criticism is easy. Doing the job can be hard. Totally understand that. However, I, personally, lose a lot of respect when somebody goes after someone for physical attributes or things outside their control. It is a bush league move. Period.

This continues to be particularly troubling when you are the face of the franchise so to speak. Here, Coach makes a lot of money and has a lot of perks leading a multi-million dollar program. Sometimes in life we SHOULD expect more from leaders.

Coach has done a number of tremendous things for this community and organizations big and small off the court. He has also gotten passes on a lot of things others might not have. Would the University sit idly if they heard a chemistry professor at a symposium make a comment deriding any physical characteristic from somebody who called into question a paper, analysis, finding, etc.

Long story short, I am 49 years old. I Have 4 season tickets for basketball, 5 for football and have been all over the country for SU football and basketball. I make a solid yearly donation outside of tickets, preferred seating, etc. so I do not have fleeting interest. My own opinion is this sort of thing is a bad look and he really should apologize. From a public relations standpoint, there is no upside to it.

When I was younger, I might have laughed at it. Now that I am older and have kids of my own, i just get tired of people being d***heads just to be d***heads. Just my take.

Great post. Jim is complicated. He is has many great traits and some which are ugly. He is an extremely insecure individual who has never been able to cope with criticism properly. His response his entire career has been to become aggressive and often times such as last night he goes too far. Its sad that a 76 year old HOF coach with so many accomplishments and blessings in his life is still so insecure and immature that he cant control himself.

Agreed. The height comment went too far. Short people watch basketball too. ;-)

Apologize and be done.

This^^^ well said.

Jimmy is now coaching at a "bubble" level. He has been for quite a few years now. If you want a team that continues the STREAK, but really does not compete in the upper echelons of its conference and struggles to make the tourney then he is still the MAN for that. Replacing him would be a risk that could go either way.

So the question becomes do we want to continue along the current path or take a chance on what hopefully would be a young and dynamic replacement ?

I think a big concern about replacing Jimmy would be with who ? The program is ingrown with his ideas and there is no point in just having more of the same under a less experienced hand. It would be hard to believe that Jimmy would not have input into his eventual replacement, but IMHO, we would need to have an independent committee and need to look to an outsider.

Some young coach who can recruit and is not married to the Zone.

And play. Just watch some Calvin Murphy highlights. Like the time he put up 50 or 60 on SU.

Agree 100%. When we played Duke on Big Monday, Jay Bilas spent a whole bunch of airtime talking about the Jalen Johnson thing. That was after JAB's comments made the Top 10 "weak" moments on ESPN. Living here in NC, my friends who like other teams will watch 1-2 Cuse games per year. Not a good look when JAB is getting ripped on the limited national exposure

Now one can argue about the magnitude of these issues. I would agree they are probably only minor in the end. However, there is no way in can be dismissed as nothing. There is literally zero way to interpret as a positive.

I love Bilas but he was insufferable on that one.

Agree with all of this - people do because they can. The school has allowed him to basically do and say anything he wants, therefore he does do and say anything he wants knowing there is no pushback from above. He will be walking back this comment by the end of the day.

They think the same thing about Devo. And he's one of the coolest dudes on the planet.

The difference is the perception of Devo was based mostly on how he looked (and maybe on the court swagger), with JB it is based on things he has actually said.

Devo's track record off the court in those days wasn't stellar.

Please don't let us go down the path comparing Eric Devendorf's perception to Jim Boeheim's.

I wish JB had as many Quad 1 wins as he has insults to reporters this year. Enough is enough. Attacking people personally is not a good look for the University or the athletic department. If JB hasn’t noticed, the entire country is a little sensitive to how people are treated. Unfortunately, JB can’t help himself. At some point the University will step in.

The media especially the local media and the syracuse blog media bring it on themselves.

Yeaaaahh... Devo may be a good dude now but so many Cuse fans gloss over the off the court issues, like those assaults both at Cuse and playing over seas. If that little issue of punching the chick in the face while at SU happened in 2021 he'd have been done here, not just the suspension that he got. Was most deffinetly not just his on court chirping (which I loved btw)

Agree with everything up to the last sentence. Not so sure about that at this point.

JFC all the Syracuse media are really supportive of the program and JB.
Axe doesn’t criticize JB.
The PS Mike and Donna are very fair and friendly.
Niko is very pro Orange.

What are you talking about.

They pay for past treatment of JB my former local media. BTW, Mike and Donna have written things that have drawn JB ire. Axe has said some stuff couple times JB called in on his own time to educate him.

McDermott is lucky he kept his job after what he said.
JB needs to be careful but he is smart enough to know what he is commenting on. The problem is he doesn’t care what people think.
His opinion on Jalen Johnson wasn’t the problem it was the fact he said it and it didn’t help anything.
That stuff you shut up on.

On Gutierrez it was just a jerky thing to say and is rude for no reason.

Aka doing there jobs. JFC you want them to bend the knee?
Holy chit if you were a Patriots fan and had to deal with that media after what they have done.
