It's usually the assistants of the current hot programs that get the head coaching jobs.

Asst coaches want to come to SU when the probability that the head coach has a foot out the door. The new coach will pick his assists. Sounds like short time employment...I hope.

JB hires all Syracuse guys, he doesn’t do his due diligence. Should be the best man for the job who brings in something different everyone can learn from. Instead we get Syracuse guys who are inexperienced and learn on the job costing us good recruits in the meantime .
We hired one inexperienced ass't. G-Mac. Or Hop if you want to go way back but I don't think anyone would say that was a bad hire. Both Autry and Griff came from other D-1 schools. Both could have gone to all kinds of good places. The bigger issue is that really, the two best guys we have got in the last 20 years came from the two guys that weren't Syracuse guys. Weaver got us Melo (and Edelin) and Murphy got us Wes Johnson. In his one year, he was the Big East player of the year and we were a #1 seed. We need guys that can get guys like that. Sadly, that ship has sailed. No decent ass't is going to come here to work for a guy JB's age.

This is completely inaccurate. Griff and red both worked other places and are good coaches.

Its always a Syracuse guy most of the time and a lot of times not enough experience to warrant the position. I think our assistants are average coaches. None light it up in recruiting.

Griff almost got hired away to Indiana by Miller like 2 years ago. You have no idea what you are talking about. All the former players outside gmac cut their teeth somewhere else and are good coaches.

I know as an assistant you have no idea what you’re talking about in reality lol. You’re a homer. And he worked for Miller at Dayton. More familiarity then a top notch assistant.

Red is an excellent coach. And a damn good recruiter. These ass'ts need their Head Coach to help. They are out there competing against Head Coaches. You know, the way Jb used to recruit.

The problem being an assistant coach on this team is the head coach. How hard must it be to sit on that bench and watch team after team continue to light us up from 3 and crush us on the boards. Coach let's try M2M...NO. Well coach how about another zone maybe a 1-3-1...NO. Coach let's see if Braswell or Newton can make some 3's since Buddy and Joe are off tonight...NO. Coach let's recruit this 6'10" 240 pound center...NO he won't be good for my 2-3 zone.
I'm sure Griff, Red and maybe even Jerry all have it in their blood to make adjustments as the game and season goes on but JB just won't adjust. I hate Cal but I'll give him some credit...that guy will pull all his starters off the court and give the next five a try. I think that would of been a good strategy at some point in the first half yesterday.

We have a head coach that feels entitled to do things his way including starting Buddy every game and plays 30-40 mins per game. The optics show he thinks he is above the program and can do no wrong and will scoff at anyone who dares to disagree with him. The man is old and set in his ways. I feel like I’m watching a CYO coach with a son on the team who plays him over others. The fan base needs to pressure SU to step in and retake control of the basketball program. It is no longer acceptable to allow the HOF coach to continue to coach because of his previous success several years back.
Jim maybe you should have hired a true big mans coach during your your 45 years as the head coach NO !

I mean making any changes comes with a ton of risk. 2 more years on the bubble with JB is better than 2 years under a failed hire. But there is also the upside of that move.
JB does not answer to anyone but himself at this point.
DNPing guys who are probably better than 40 minute per night starters is a firable offense if there ever was one. I am not sure that is the solution. But the guys he is sitting are good. Even letting Marek play some wing or Griff some 2 could shake things up.
And there is no early departure excuses really or things to point to outside our control. These guys who are stinking have performed well in the past.
JB might have gotten stale over the last couple of years before this but hes never been incompetent like this season.
I know he is not leaving till his son graduates but if he decides to stay which i woulsnt be surprised, i just dont want this to be and end up like the bowden situation at FSU.
secondly IMO whoever the next coach will be, I want a IN YOUR FACE MAN2MAN style defense. Itsa not ;like we cant recruit the kids to play it! I mean come out thats a copout imo!

This season JB's coaching has been John L Smith at Arkansas level bad.
We will be in unprecidented territory the next 2 seasons as the frustration grows. Good thing there are no fans and last year ended on a positive note with the Carolina blowout. Just hard to see changes as most involve not playing Buddy 40 mpg at the 2.
I think we have good players though. I understand that talent level is debatable. I think doing anything other than what we currently are from a coaching standpoint would yeild drastically different results.

Bernie Fine coached with JB from 1976 to 2011. Fine was responsible for coaching Syracuse's forwards and centers, including Rony Seikaly, Etan Thomas and John Wallace. In 2000, Fine was promoted to associate head coach.
