I understand Jim trying to defend his friend and former player/assistant coach but to put all the blame on NIL and two players is lame. Claiming his two best players had "horrible years" is also false. While several people were upset/not impressed with Donnie Freeman and felt he didn't live up to the hype, doesn't mean he had a "horrible year". Could he have been better, sure...but 16.5 and 7 is not horrible. Additionally, player development and getting the most out of players is one of the prime responsibilities of the coach, which Red seemed to fail at throughout his 3-year tenure.

to me the pts and rebounding were Ok, and at times pretty good. The TOs cost us a couple games as well.

He was having that leap until he wasn’t. He had a long stretch this year averaging 18 a game. Seems like mentally his game crumbled to the ground.

Donnie decided that long, slow, cross-court passes were the only solution.

Players costed Red his job?? That's one way to look at it. It appears that's what Red thinks too based on his last couple press conferences. I view it much differently... Red costed his players and team by not developing them and helping them play better team basketball. He failed as a head coach. Were there other factors that contributed? Sure, but poor coaching was clearly the biggest issue - all you have to do is watch a game.

It is on the coach to figure out what to do to get his two best players to not have a bad year.

That is why Red is losing his job. Look at this team and how they were playing at the start of the season. We held in close/won against some solid teams.


The team regressed over the year and regression is on the coach.

There is no mention of fundraising responsibilities (or any role responsibilities for the position whatsoever.) It's just his bio...

That is different than when his position was announced... they did release roles/responsibilities that included:

• Advisory Position: He provides counsel to the athletic department and assists with university initiatives.
• Fundraising/Donor Relations: A primary focus is assisting with fundraising efforts and engaging with donors.
• Mentorship: He supports the athletics department, including potentially mentoring new coaching staff.
• Academic Role: In addition to his athletic role, Boeheim is an adjunct professor in the David B. Falk College of Sport, where he teaches a leadership class.
• University Ambassador: He remains a visible, high-profile representative for the university.

My guess is either he doesn't want to actually do all that stuff and really likes his gig doing color on games instead... and/or the department doesn't actually want him doing all that stuff either and that the responsibilities list was just a false list of responsibilities to make the position sound important when announced. Also, he's still doing the Leadership Class I believe... at least he was last Fall. There was a brief article about it here. (special props for guest cameo from Heather Lyke anyone??)

In any event, those roles/responsibilities aren't described anywhere on the athletics website now... so yes, likely a ceremonial position with an athletics department office so he can be up on the hill when he wants to and/or for his teaching days.

He had some brutal moments but I still think with the right guys around him, he could be real good. His good was real good...but, I agree, his bad was brutal

Starling fell off a cliff over the last few games to the point where even Red couldn't play him.

He regressed because the way teams defended him changed. After he killed Wilson from UNC the rest of the conference went to a hard double every time he got the ball on the block or mid-post. The team, coaching staff and especially Donnie had no answer. That is why his numbers dropped.

I like him less and less every time he talks, going back to the last 5 years or so of him coaching. It's too bad because he was a coaching god to me at one point. Everyone I knew (who were largely not SU fans) all said he was a jerk and you know what. I always defended him. They may have been right.

Ive listened to JB discuss this topic in person. He thinks certain players had disappointing seasons but of course the big issue is funding. He feels Red never had a shot because Cuse doesn’t have enough money to build and keep a team.

Take that how you will. Its what HE says. But its less about attacking players and more about criticizing the program’s fundraising.

He’s supposed to help us with the NIL fundraising! Now he can help the university fund the $20 million House settlement money. Frankly he needs to do more to help out there. I hope Carparelli asks more of him in that regard.

And he lied on ESPN about our NIL. He said we were near the bottom of the ACC. When we actually had $8-9 million or more. It was the upper middle of the pack in the ACC. He’s making excuses for Red.
