JB on ESPN2 talking Red

He regressed because the way teams defended him changed. After he killed Wilson from UNC the rest of the conference went to a hard double every time he got the ball on the block or mid-post. The team, coaching staff and especially Donnie had no answer. That is why his numbers dropped.
He became a forced shot/bad pass machine who generally crippled the offense. He and the coaching staff couldn't find any good answers.

Ive listened to JB discuss this topic in person. He thinks certain players had disappointing seasons but of course the big issue is funding. He feels Red never had a shot because Cuse doesn’t have enough money to build and keep a team.
A big problem with Red and JB is the thought that you can still "build and keep a team" in the NIL era.

You need to consider each player a 1 year player. Project their current production, not what you project they will be in 2-3 years.

Each season your team needs to win now.

The days of growing and developing players over their college career will be very rare.

He is correct about JJ not living up to expectations. I also think that Freeman was not able to carry the team in the 2nd half of the season.

This is effectively Freeman's 1st Full Season in college ball. perhaps he hit a wall late in the season as most freshmen do. I think he had a good season and the comparisons of numbers are poor as he did not play any ACC games in his freshman year.

I have to say that our Coach was unable to control the flow of the game through his players. They were not able to run a play out of a time out and we continually were crushed in the 2nd half as the opposition made a halftime adjustment.

Coaching staff was not prepared. They were all let go and they knew it was coming. We do not have any recruit in the top 100.

Additionally, with all of the staff being let go, IMHO, there is already someone in place and someone is talking to the players. I think in about 2 weeks we will know the individual. Interesting that Carmelo Anthony attended the last two games most likely knowing that his son was not going to play.

Go CUSE

Red kept JJ 3 years and he got worse every year, Donnie hit a ceiling in game 7, i dont think that he was going to be saved by players "staying in the system"

Not to mention he booted half the players who left

Jim, shut up. Your doing nothing but working another no show job. How much money did you bring in for NIL. And you say one thing to the national press and another thing to others locally. Just stop.

to me the pts and rebounding were Ok, and at times pretty good. The TOs cost us a couple games as well.
The incredibly lame unforced TOs, by almost everyone, is what I'll most remember about this team. Just the really bad ones, including the last in regulation against Pitt, probably cost us 3-4 games this season.

He’s supposed to help us with the NIL fundraising! Now he can help the university fund the $20 million House settlement money. Frankly he needs to do more to help out there. I hope Carparelli asks more of him in that regard.

And he lied on ESPN about our NIL. He said we were near the bottom of the ACC. When we actually had $8-9 million or more. It was the upper middle of the pack in the ACC. He’s making excuses for Red.
we didn't have $8-$9m of NIL. and jb hasn't been fundraising for NIL.

Really tired of JB and the part of our fanbase laying this at the players feet. Top 20 classes both portal wise and freshman recruiting class, we easily had enough talent to be on the right side of the bubble this year. It was an epic fail by the amateur hour of a coaching staff we had, which hurts to say because they're likeable guys who many were w/Orange for a long time.

It absolutely took a village to arrive at this point.

Take that how you will. Its what HE says. But its less about attacking players and more about criticizing the program’s fundraising.
Red can't coach Jim.

EDIT: Red can't coach, Jim.

That was the number reported in several places. You have other information?

Daily Orange had it slightly under 8, and seems to have been confirmed around.

Doesn't matter anyway, new team in town.

i think they included the rev share too. a lot of people did that.

Not sure what he's supposed to say. He isn't going to trash his former player / someone he worked closely with for many years.

Tough day for Syracuse basketball, even though many in the fanbase look forward to change.
I thnk you say something like, "Coaching is a tough gig. There are hall of famers that were fired. Red is a smart guy and knows how to coach. This didn't work out like anyone hoped. I'm confident he'll land on his feet." Leave the current players out of it.

Correct . . . used to be your top recruits hoped to be one and done and you could build the rest of your program around those "shooting stars" who were just passing thru. But now, in the era of college basketball free agency, the entire TEAM is one and done. No quarrel with players making money when billions are being thrown at conferences and colleges by content voracious networks, but the ripple effect of NIL & the transfer portal has just turned CBB on its head. There is no continuity . . . may be I'm just a geezer used to the old ways, but I think where college basketball is today, sucks.

This is why it’s time to move on from Jimmy. I think everyone knows and appreciates what he did for the program the school and the community. But he is the person most identified with Syracuse basketball and he is on national television saying the school doesn’t have enough money. Players and parents could be watching this stuff. Can’t imagine it’s good for recruiting or the portal.

Can someone from the communications school please tell him how to communicate!!

every school needs more money, including Ohio State and Louisville, according to their ADs. Let the HoF’er cook while we still have him.
