JB on Orangenation right now.

I miss him so much more than I thought I would.
I think the broad-based assumption was that there would be a V-shaped recovery as soon as he relinquished the reins and we would be right back where we were from '96 through '14.

Not looking like it at the moment.

It's the difference between being competitive and winning. We are being competitive, which isn't enough. But we aren't getting blown out - yet.
I agree. I keep trying to find some positives and I guess that is about what we have so far this year.

Sounds like unrealistic expectations. If you were expecting a turnaround overnight, that’s on you.

Nor only a big Orange fan, I am also a huge Red Sox fan. My baseball team has given me huge emotional swings but I love them even in the bad years. Over a 162 game span that can get rough so 31 games is nothing to me. I hope and pray both my teams so better, but I will suffer through the bad times as it makes the good times so much sweeter. Think of how I must have felt when SU and the Sox won it all so close together. Absolute euphoria after so many disapointments.

Even in a great year you have to deal with 62 losses:)

JB really never had a legacy of having a successful coaching tree. Most of the guys that were assistants under JB that got head coaching gigs failed.

And I don’t give JB much credit for Pitino. Sure he spent two season under JB when JB was just hired as head coach, but I attribute the vast majority of Pitino’s success to Pitino.

I’m not expecting Red to be some amazing coach because he spent a giant chunk of his adult life being coached by or on JB’s staff.

How about a decade? Is that slow and patient enough?
It hasn’t been a decade. This is only year two. We had to be patient with JB and now we have to be patient with the rebuild. That includes patiently waiting to see if Red has what it takes. Is that asking too much?

We’ve had decades of success. Success that other programs have yet to achieve. The sense of entitlement from our fanbase is nauseating. None of us are owed anything.

If we move on from Red after year three or year four and don’t hire a big name coach, riot then. The university let JB finish on his terms. I don’t have a problem with that decision. The university is giving Red an opportunity to prove himself. I don’t have a problem with that decision either.

You do, fine. Nothing’s going to change, though.

That’s just classic SU fanbase right there.

Oh, get over yourself. Neither is the university. And I'm not the one selling a product. I'm A-OK with not spending $5k a year on basketball.

It's been a decade since the AD and school decided to show their belly to JAB. And it's resulted in a decade of irrelevance. This isn't an opinion.

I look forward to every single game. I am passionate about it. Glad it is in my life. Expect it always will be.
Yep, me too. My point though was it's the other things that I no longer do much of (pressers, coach shows, etc.). I also find myself bailing short of the conclusion of the game when things are going badly. While I'm still a diehard cuse fan, the last few years have really taken a toll.

Nah, I think most were hoping we'd be competitive at least... not a listless ship drifting on open seas.

So JB gets full credit for all of Pitino’s accomplishments? I guess those 2 years working under JB were the make or break items for Rick’s career. Why wasn’t his stint at Hawaii more important than at Syracuse?

JB does not have a stellar history of fostering and developing coaching talent. It’s not even subjective.

He gets more credit than you’re willing to give him. That’s it.

Did you watch the Tennessee game ?

Wrong. Somebody finally got a set and ended it and it should have been ended much sooner that it was. JB and the AD should have both been gone after JB got the school put on probation for a second time.

Sorry, was this posted in 1975, 1980, 1995, or 2024?

When JB started - when we were "patient" - players stayed for 3-4 years. A rebuild was truly that - start fresh, recruit the pieces, put them into a system which eventually worked (long, lanky players in the zone). And find some gems in the old transfer portal (and we had many).

But now, coaches get 1-2 years with players. They have to produce day 1 - even freshmen - see: Cooper Flagg.

So with the team exodus from last year to this year, we bought... sorry recruited/transferred in... players who aren't working out. We're keeping it close, but we're losing.

The AD was gone after that.

I think everyone knew what I meant. It was more nuanced than you described. This doesn’t need to be rehashed every time there’s a discussion.
