JB on St. John’s: “They’re going to be at worst a top-20 team this season"

Probably. And if so, get a home and home with them for the following 2 years.

Don’t care about them when they’re a nondescript .500 team with a bunch of guys who play like they have dirt under their fingernails.

But if they’re going to be good and have a legendary coach, let’s get in the Garden against them, and get them in the Dome one more time.

There isn't a coach in any sport in history I root AGAINST more. He's a slimy, Cuse hating douche.

Re, best recruiting class for JB. Lets wait until they are seniors. All 5 stayed for their sophomore campaing. All contributed (Carey was RS so does not count). Lets see how we do this year.

Bell - Very Good Shooter
Brown - Great all around
Q - Lots of Upside
Taylor - Good shooter, can play guard/forward
Carey - TBD

This could be our starting 5 next year yes. Crazy statement I know but I am not badmouthing this recruited group. I think we will see very good college players by the time they are Juniors. If they stay for 4 years. WOW.

Freeman, Moore, Westry will play before those guys...

I doubt he'll make a prediction for Syracuse so not to put undue pressure on Red if he underperforms. Hopefully he's bullish though.
yeah...no need to make any predictions and add any pressure or take any spotlight away from the current coaches...

...just wonder what he privately thinks. (I bet he is bullish...I know I am)

JAB Says Things.

A year ago, he said:
This was a sure fire NCAA’s team.
This was his best recruiting class in history.

Ima take JAB’s taeks with a pound of salt.
You know what's funny though... earlier in his career (actually not all that long ago) he used to be very careful about making predictions and talking about his team in that way. That's why when he did say something very encouraging, the fan base took notice. In his final years I think he started saying things (in part) to defend his coaching/recruiting/program. That's why I stopped listening or putting much stock into what came out of his mouth.

All of those guys could end up sticking around and contributing until they're seniors and they still wouldn't be the best class ever. They could be very good class and not be the best ever. There are just too many classes with elite players that knock it down the list. You have to do better than the DC/Thompson class and that's a tall order.

And a couple of those players Hughes and Duncan got Rutgers into the dance for the first time since 1976.
It's too bad JB had such a short bench and attitude at that time.
Had they stayed he might have had a couple of championships early in his career.

Trying to even remember - Duncan was behind Sherm. If he stayed he would’ve had both 1990 and 1991 to run point? If so, I’m curious why he left? Did he think Kenny Anderson was surely coming? Or had Anderson already decided on GT when he left? Would think the former? His doesn’t make much sense because he would’ve started at PG in 1990 and 1991. All we had was a freshman Michael Edwards in 1990.

Hughes probably saw Owens coming in and Thompson back for 89 as the forwards (with Johnson off the bench) and left?

In the very position rigid times of the 80s-90s that makes sense. In todays game, there’s room for all of them.

Their last season here Hughes played 14.5mpg and Duncan played 18mpg.

I know I'm in the minority but for me JB should go dark from now until the end of the season.
Yep! He 100% means well and wants the best for Autry and the program, but him becoming a media darling with the quotes has zero upside for anybody right now.
