JB's Presser after Georgetown

I respect Dasher standing up for JB as he was on campus when the guy started but JB now is not the same. The guy is 72 and doesn't have the motivation in recruiting. He is delegating more and more.
What frustrates me is JB doesn't adapt. He is doing it his way and this way isn't working you need to adapt. JB will say X needs to do better or we need to make shots. Well no duh but about scheming for the players or changing it up.

Our offense is still the same old rubbish. Our D is good but its passive aggressive. It would be great to switch it up every once in a while to confuse an opponent but we don't. We need some new blood. All the assistants are former JB guards and none of them can say anything to him. We need an outsider on the staff. If JB added a assistant who could disagree and get some new voices it would help.

Alsacs. I wish we would bring in a different ass't. A top notch recruiter. I think Hop will go that route when he gets the head coaching job. He didn't wait this long to fail. He knows the inning and the score. We need a troy weaver. As for a ass't coming in and standing up to jb, lol that is never going to happen, JB is who he is. He isn't changing. We have him for one more year. Now, there are big poker tournaments at Mohegan the week after x-mas. You up for that or are you going to wimp out?

I will be home but I got commitments if the tournament is the 26th maybe I can do it. I will see.

It is a multi day tournament. One of those where you play on the 26th and if you survive, you come back and play on the

You are losing this battle and making a fool of yourself.. trust me I have been there 1000 times as I have been on this forum for 17 years. You should just stop.

When you are all alone and everyone else is telling you to stop, you should stop. You are way off here and it's not a matter of opinion.

Yes, i should stop bc everyone else are big hoops guys and how dare anyone talk about our hoops team. I route for them too but not sure how you can say JB has coached any half court offense in the past few years. Hey, if you are enjoying it, have at it.

lol move the goalposts much?

Kentucky plays a significant non conference schedule unlike us. Did you watch that? Ucla and NC for starters this year. Our OOC has been laughable for years. Just the last few years have we left the dome in the first few months, only after we were left out of the dance years back for playing a laughable OOC schedule.
Their conference sucks

He does coach half court offense. They run an initial set every time down the court, then break into their general offense. The problem I see and would complain about is the lack of attention to detail by the players and coaches. The lack of setting up their defender before using the screen is bad. Never come off screen tight shoulder to shoulder creating an advantage over their defender. Court spacing continues to be an issue. A consistent struggle for some to make the right pass or pull up off the dribble to score rather than driving into 2 guys. This years team really lacks a go to guy to make play and beat their defender to score.

Come on. Most people admit that Cal is superior in many aspects but the OOC argument is ridiculous. When your toughest league opponents are Florida and Vanderbilt (now without their good coaches), you have to beaf up your schedule with UNC and Kansas. It still doesnt compare to Syracuse's most years.

We play Duke, UNC, UVA, UL, Miami, ND, and a good Big10 team every year, some multiple times. But Cal plays UCLA neutral court in November and that's more impressive than the ACC?

The despair finally has worn off sufficiently to permit me to talk about the game.

Good analysis of general offensive problems.
But the issue quoted here is the only bright spot amid the overarching gloom of Saturday's game.

Tyler Lydon finally showed a spark of team leadership.
When crunch time hit he wanted the ball...he got the ball...and he delivered (except at the foul line).

If pressed to stretch to find another positive...it would be that despite having a generally ineffective backcourt and almost no post defense...we still played well enough so that all the missed free throws cost us the game.
(And the fact that I consider this a "positive" statement is reflective of how bad things are).

For those thinking that JB is doing less than he used to, it may be intentional.

It would make sense to gradually shift some of his duties over to Hop or others on the staff instead of doing a 100% dump the day he leaves.

But some of you probably did that in your corporate world. No training someone to take your place and laughing as you walked away.

You are right in theory for sure. I think UK plays Izzo, Pitino, IU (?), UNC every year in the non-conference as well though and that is no joke. Texas A&M and Arkansas were good last year. Arkansas will be good this year and Florida should be better.

No Indiana anymore. MSU, Louisville, UNC and UCLA. MSU is like us this year.

That's still a gauntlet non-conference like it or not. I thought I read somewhere that maybe IU will start back up again? That would be great of course.

That quote is interesting. Lydon hopefully will be that guy. Aside from the guards performing subpar at best I think the lack of speed generally except from Gillon at times is a BIG problem that I'm not sure anything can be done about it. We have big trouble against better teams with athletes comparable to SU's. Howard, Battle (hoping it is the foot), White, etc. all look pedestrian against decent teams. We have some tall guys for their position like Howard but his lack of speed and indecisiveness is a deadly combo. There has been ONLY a couple of times a game now at best where Howard and others are driving past their guys and they are either not finishing or turning it over. I worry about White if not early in the offense on a chuck being to get his shot off as the season progresses. Teams are going to stick a guy on him and it will be over since he can't put it on the floor. I was even watching Clemson the other day against somebody decent. Their M2M is very good as we know. Lydon and TT will be fine but PG/SG/SF is just not good enough athletically against the big boys and we aren't going to outscheme a team like the way Creighton or somebody else would. I just hope we see more zone D against us but that is highly unlikely in the ACC.

Cal plays an outstanding OOC , including UCLA and UNC and isn't afraid to play away from home. You forgot that South Carolina team in the SEC that took us out behind the woodshed. Gtown is mediocre at best and the Johnnies just flat out stink with a coach in over his head. The EMU squad we have tonight actually isnt bad.

Great breakdown and thank you. I agree, its the lack of solid screens and motion and spacing, but then again, all that together is a huge part of playing offense on any level. Not sure what Roberson did to get into the back end of the doghouse and if Lydon is indeed an NBA PICK this year, lets see him step up as our go to scorer.
