JJ has always struggled with shooting, so there must be some kind of mechanical flaw.

But seeing those free throws last night... I have to ask the question, is he impaired? Is he dealing with some kind of shoulder [or whatever] injury that hasn't been disclosed, that might account for TWO airballs?

There’s nothing wrong with his shoulder that affects his shot. Most good free throw shooters mostly shoot with their wrist. Bad free throw shooters have too many moving parts with elbows and wrists. You can watch guys in wheelchairs who have good free throw shooting form routinely make foul shots despite being otherwise immobilized. It’s 100% mental.

I love Kyle but I can’t remember a college player with worse form. If he shoots higher than 50% on FTs I’ll be very surprised. JJ has shot 70% over the last 2 years which is not horrible but not what you expect from your SG. I remember announcers talking about his shooting hitch last year.

It's definitely in his head. I love the idea of stepping back, taking two dribbles towards the FT line, and taking a jump shot. No thinking. Just shooting naturally.

hes just a go with the flow...easy peezy...but has zero ferocity...zero edge...and it shows in his game

hes just so casual...I feel like he is the kinda guy who never gets mad...which is cool in life...but in basketball its kinda a good thing if he had more passion/edge

I liked his answer in that clip and the look he gave the interviewer. Very honest and self-aware assessment.

His form looked ok the other night. It looks better every time he goes to the line. He’s obviously working on his mechanics and form.

Did you miss Bulldog’s posts about JJ having the yips? I think they’re earlier in this thread. Sounds like it’s not an anomaly.

I don't expect him to suddenly be Steph Curry at the line, but I would be surprised if he airballed multiple free throws in a game ever again. I would be content with like 65% at this point.
