This isn’t so much a question of do you want them to return? But more so what do you think is the “protocol” to letting the coaching staff know. Is it at the beginning of the year? Middle of the year? End of the year? Obviously it would help the coaches with recruiting, and also it will help the current players on the roster making their own decisions with regards to potentially transferring.

Do you think the coaching staff currently knows both of their decisions right now?

I thought Boeheim talks to the plays about this stuff at the end of the year. Tells him whether he thinks they’re “ready” or not and usually he’s pretty forthcoming.

No I totally get “exit” interviews, but I believe these two players are in a different category in that being seniors you would automatically assume they are both gone in years past. They are both multiple year starters, and this is a new scenario. I would think the coaches not only would want to know their thought process/decision on whether to return, but NEED to know as soon as possible. It would affect recruiting and possible transfer portal needs.

I was looking at Joes stats..

Played 118 games and scored 1551
Buddy played 121 games and scored 1765

we have 6 left to play 1 ACC plus with a couple wins at least 1 NIT game
8 x 17 = 136 thats 1687.. less than 80 less. needs to find 5 more games to catch him or score like 20 down the stretch

Buddy shot 36.3 Joe is at 36.3 from 3.

Joe is gonna get 100 more rebounds 40 more steals and 200 more assists.. Not a bad run

He has a clear shot at #2 on the SU list if he goes 1 more yr.

Good points. All while playing out of position and not the “go to” player for 3 years.

Joe is not an NBA candidate ...too small, too slow ...really good college player ...should do the 5th year instead of playing in some overseas country for peanuts ...losing him won't hurt us with Taylor back who will only get better and is much bigger...if most of this team stays they could be very good next year ...Jesse has a better shot at NBA but could use some weight and strength ...let's hope Mintz stays!

He wouldn’t be playing for peanuts if he went overseas. The question though is would it be more than what his NIL money brings in.

100% yes to both.

Joe has really found his niche, and is performing far better than I expected as the 2. I know he's had his detractors, but after how he's played in the ACC portion of the schedule, I can't envision that there would be too many fans who wouldn't welcome him back.

Jesse is our best big man since Rakim, and making a case to be in the top 5 or so centers we've ever had.

The problem with this team is inexperience. Next year, Brown / Bell / Taylor / Mintz [if he returns], Copeland, and Hima won't be inexperienced. Could see the squad kicking it up a notch and being a 23 or so win team, building upon the growing pains this year.

Those two returning would also mean the possibility of returning a full starting lineup, which would also be a stability factor. Then you'd have Copeland / Taylor / Hima rounding out a solid rotation, plus any transfers or recruits [Adams].

Not suggesting it is realistic / probable that those two return, but if there's a chance -- sign me up.

Joe is a solid college player with no shot at an NBA career, but could play overseas. A good NIL package that can match overseas salary could convince him to stay, along with a shot at padding his stats to solidify his name in the SU basketball historical statistics and a chance to add his jersey to the rafters. Also, if this team returns intact with or without Jesse, it could be his best shot at a national championship. Are those things meaningful to him?

As for Jesse, with added strength and continued growth, he should be a 1st round pick next year. If he leaves this year, he might be a 2nd rounder or be picked up after the draft perhaps on a 2 way contract similar to Buddy and Cole.

over seas pays pretty well if you can get it.. is he really making 200K in NIL money here? and does he want to put in the work to be a grad student?

JMO, but I don’t think either will be back.

Ditto.

We can’t pay Jesse NIL as a foreign-born student-athlete.
Although I’m sure a team like Kentucky would find a way to make it happen.

And while I appreciate how well Joe has done overall this year (with a handful of awful clunkers mixed in) it just feels like it’s time for him to move on to the next phase of his life.

I’d be shocked - shocked - if either came back.
Especially Jesse.

Overseas only pays well in the top euro leagues and possibly the best Chinese teams. Most do not pay well at all and can be difficult living. A lot of guys do it for the love of the game and want to do it as long as they can before facing the real work world.

If you think long term, Joe specifically, another year at SU to build on his legacy in the area as a local guy can go a long way. Especially if he wants a coaching career starting as either a grad assistant/assistant coach (anywhere upstate including Cuse) to the eventual role as a head coach.

JB said at the beginning of the season that he expects everybody to return, and if there are any "unexpected" departures at the end of the season, they'll be handled through the portal.

As of right now, Joe and Jesse leaving would be unexpected.

jessie staying would be great.. he also could give the NBA a shot but he will be abused at his size. Euro though who knows. He hasnt shown any shooting outside like 5 ft and they do value that,

There’s been rumors about Jesse coming back.
