Joe and Jesse 5th year question?

Assuming Taylor stays if Joe stays maybe an error.
I think if Joe stays and Judah comes back you lose Taylor. He was recruited as a 2 and is being told he’ll be the 2 next year. He might be taking things this year but I doubt he will for another. If I’m the coaches I’m suggesting to Joe it’s time to go

jessie staying would be great.. he also could give the NBA a shot but he will be abused at his size. Euro though who knows. He hasnt shown any shooting outside like 5 ft and they do value that,
I would love it ,I mean LOVE IT, if we pulled a North Carolina and got our stars to stay!

Dont we have a 2 coming in the year after? No thanks to Joe coming back.

“Taking things”. Lol. What’s he taking? He’s doing exactly what he knew he’d do. And he’ll be back next year Joe or no Joe which will be Joes decision.

Joe and Gus will make up their own minds:)
Hope he comes back

This would honestly be a great time to portal.

I am sure there are plenty of SGs who will be available this off-season who would love to take all those shots Joe has this year. Not to mention a big

If Joe leaves we are not going after a transfer 2. Next years 2 is on our roster. Forward may be a different story.

This isn’t so much a question of do you want them to return? But more so what do you think is the “protocol” to letting the coaching staff know. Is it at the beginning of the year? Middle of the year? End of the year? Obviously it would help the coaches with recruiting, and also it will help the current players on the roster making their own decisions with regards to potentially transferring.

Do you think the coaching staff currently knows both of their decisions right now?
Yes, I want them back.
At the same time, change is a good thing.
If I were in their shoes, I might Greg Paulus it.
Go somewhere different and get a fantastic graduate degree.

I assume they have until the end of the season to let JB know privately what's going to happen.

I'm not sold on Taylor as a starter if we want to build a winning roster. His foot speed and handle are not 2-material. He's a little quicker than Buddy, but not by much. Again, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're ok with the NCAA bubble as the ceiling, then by all means settle for Taylor/Bell as starting material.

I really believe the answers we are searching for are not on the current roster.

Which... is kinda dumb.

If we've invested enough minutes into Taylor as the 2, we've absolutely invested enough starts and minutes into Brown and Bell as the starting forwards.

I think Taylor will be a very solid starting 2, but we need to keep the right guy next to him so we don't reinvent the Joe/Buddy starting backcourt issues.

His ceiling is higher than Buddy. Defensively he’s better than Buddy ever was already. You’re stereotyping.

Bell as a 3….Not totally sold.

not disagreeing but NBA disqualifying players off an age of 24 or 25 makes no sense...players only stay on any team for a handful of seasons these days, anyway...its not like anyone they draft is on the ten year plan

Its hard to get drafted. Only 60 names are called.

25 of the top 50 ranked recruits from the year before 19 y/o Americans take up almost half of the draft class. Many of them aren't good at basketball just athletic and have 'potential.' Most of the lottery are these guys.

20 Euros get drafted. They are easier to stash so dominate the second round and later selections in the draft.

15 'good' experienced NCAA non freshmen get drafted. You have to be really good to join this group. Half of its 4th/5th year senior guys ready to play right away. Then you get a few Sophomores who weren't good enough to leave as freshmen but improved and have to go.

Most NBA teams don't care about the second round and are happy to give an undrafted free agent a shot before them if they play better in camp/G League.

An observation isn't stereotyping. It's an opinion. Who knows you might be right on Taylor. It's just a guess. I'm just saying he doesn't do anything so well that it jumps off the page. With Buddy, you could see he had a sweet stroke. Taylor's shot mechanics are not as smooth. Bell - you can see he has a great stroke but literally nothing else.

I want to see what presents AW puts under our tree going forward. I personally want to upgrade from the Atari and Apple IIGS roster that we've been saddled with.

They are different players with different usage rates, as well as permissions, but - as freshmen - I think Taylor is better than Buddy. Where that leads, I don't know.

That said, running this team back again next year with no changes results in a win or two extra, that's about it. They're not turning into a top-25 team and a 4 seed. Add a SF out of the portal, which should have happened last offseason, and who loses the starting job? Bell? Taylor?

Team needs more help than is possible. The D is terrible.

I disagree strongly. We’ve run so many players off that could have helped us in year 3 and 4 we need to keep him and others to let them grow. He’s exactly the type of player that kills us at UVA every time we play them.

You don’t win with just one and dones. Duke/UK are barely better than us this season.

And literally nothing else is false. He’s already a plus defender.

Sometimes I think you’re a little too infatuated where guys were ranked in HS and not what they do once their in college.

Taylor also has a better handle as a freshmen than Buddy left SU with.

This is what is known as "damning with faint praise". ;)

Taylor has a TON of physical and skill abilities as a Frosh, that are as good as/better than Buddy's final year.
He's a plus athlete with strength and some ups, lateral mobility, and an adequate handle (for a Fr 2G).
He also projects to be a decent defender at the 2, which is something nobody ever said about Buddy, ever.

Buddy's main advantages are/were:
got a TON of early run as a Frosh due to injuries.
And then got ALL. THE. MINUTES. due to his dad not recruiting over him for his final 3 seasons.

One way or the other, I hope it's settled soon, as I'm guessing it will severely impact our ability to get 2023 portal guys.

You're talking 23 shots between those two on offense and a whole bunch of minutes.

I hope you're right. But as someone else said, run this back without serious help and we're only seeing a couple extra wins.
