Joe and Jesse 5th year question?

120th in KP adjusted D. Somewhere around 119 teams figured out how to have a better defense using M2M and not necessarily having NBA lottery picks at every position with a baby giraffe on ice trying to cover a corner three and the paint at the same time.

I would say at this juncture, Joe is more likely than not to come back for a fifth year. I would put Jesse squarely at 50/50. If we can find a way to get him NIL money, perhaps those odds go up, but I could see at his age wanting to get paid to play basketball, which he could certainly do overseas.

But as someone else said, run this back without serious help and we're only seeing a couple extra wins.

I would certainly welcome a talent upgrade. However, if we ran it back, I could easily see 4-5 more wins. We're a different team than what we were in some of our early losses.

Its hard to get drafted. Only 60 names are called.

25 of the top 50 ranked recruits from the year before 19 y/o Americans take up almost half of the draft class. Many of them aren't good at basketball just athletic and have 'potential.' Most of the lottery are these guys.

20 Euros get drafted. They are easier to stash so dominate the second round and later selections in the draft.

15 'good' experienced NCAA non freshmen get drafted. You have to be really good to join this group. Half of its 4th/5th year senior guys ready to play right away. Then you get a few Sophomores who weren't good enough to leave as freshmen but improved and have to go.

Most NBA teams don't care about the second round and are happy to give an undrafted free agent a shot before them if they play better in camp/G League.
quite a few NBA franchises seem to be run by morons, imo...there's 5 or 10 teams that seem to always be at the bottom of the standings.

Luka Garza, for example, barely got drafted...despite being an obvious top player in the entire NCAA.,,and just had a game recently with 17 points and 6 boards in 10 minutes of NBA action. but hes not good enough because he's "too old" and plays too traditionally...or whatever. I know how the NBA stereotypes players and creates artificial tiers...I just dont buy into it.

but yeah...it is hard to get drafted. that is true.

Didn’t you hear? $75,000 tuition, room and board means he gets “nothing”.
Room and board is taxable. If he has a degree, why does he need tuition, to get 1/2 a Master's?

This jesse cant make nil $ seems like nonsense. Cant some sponsor just pay him nil in the netherlands to market on some tv ads there? There has to be some easy workaround.

Jesse's parents are coming for Senior Night.
He'll be 23 next month.

While I'd love to see him back, I just don't see it happening.

That needs to be a major focus in the portal then.

I think if Joe stays and Judah comes back you lose Taylor. He was recruited as a 2 and is being told he’ll be the 2 next year. He might be taking things this year but I doubt he will for another. If I’m the coaches I’m suggesting to Joe it’s time to go
Joe is better than Justin. Why tell the proven player to leave to keep an unproven player. I'd rather have Joe than Justin. It's a dog eat dog world. Plenty of guys in portal to fill needs. Look what Pitt is doing.

Also, this is goofy. You’d trade 3 more years of a player at the start of his journey for Joe? Why? Is Joe the element that gets us another chip next year?Noepphhingway.

Disagree. We’ve more or less seen Joe’s ceiling and seen our ceiling with Joe.

Justin is 6’7 and has potential to be a guy who can play both ends.

You can't count on any players to stay 3 years, put together the best team for next year, with the portal it's like JUCO teams, you build your team a year at a time

If Joe leaves, we still need another wing guard. Justin isn’t playing forty minutes and you can’t count on Copeland to give you scoring.

If we’re choosing solely between 5th year Joe or sophomore Taylor (not taking into account a possible transfer), I’d take Joe back. I like Taylor and think he has great potential, but I don’t think it’s a guarantee he’ll ever be able to match Joe’s offensive production level, and I’d even argue that Joe is just as good of a rebounder as Justin. Joe played out of position for three years. It’s no coincidence that his best season is when he gets to play 2 guard opposite a true point guard. If he wants to come back next year, I’m not sure how anyone could say no to that.

Yes agreed, but I’ll take 3 years of Taylor over one more of Joe.

If we’re going to keep playing the zone 24/7, it’ll help to have a 6’7 guard up top rather than a 5’10 one.

Our defense probably goes from bad to average, at least, with extended Judah/JT minutes at the top. Plenty of length and Taylor will learn how to use his size/physicality better as a sophomore.

With a really good roster move or two this spring you can see the vision for Syracuse being very good at basketball next season. Lots of question marks, though.

Judah's decision looms large. Forget the mock drafts for the moment. If he leaves you need more offense at the 1. Copeland is an unknown in terms of what kind of leap he can make. Symir can run a team but his limits show up and loudly at times.

If Judah returns then you have an easier puzzle to complete - assuming we still can land Adams and Benny decides to move on. If Judah leaves we need a portal guard and you could lose your starting backcourt and have a new piece with Taylor.

Jesse's offense is a big deal so we would need another guy from the portal and Bell, Brown and (Adams?) to shoulder a much bigger load than our forwards do now.

Right now it's hard to lean one way or another with Joe or Jesse given the unknowns.

Bottom line is that for next season this team is better with Joe and Jesse and Sy on the roster. Hope they all return.

Buddy Joe Jesse nice players that we haven't done well with.
