You have to make room on the roster first before you can bring in new guys.

Honestly I’m just excited they’re trying to get better. Better than complacency. And I have a good feeling they will pull it off.

What makes you say that? He was a gutty player but his decision making was less than stellar. Not sure how his style effectively translates to coaching. There could be more that I don’t know but that’s my pov from watching him play/lead

I don't have a clue how he would coach but I've seen him play.

Thues and DeShaun left and we got better.

Confident we’ll be better next year too, and guard play will be a reason why. That will upset a few people here when it happens, too.

Don't throw Thues in with DeShaun, DeShaun was an excellent player who would start at the 2G position on many of SU's teams thru the years - he carried that 01-02 team. The team got better because Starmelo and GMac showed up the next year.

I haven’t looked at the portal much this year but I know last year there were so many players, some were their teams best players, many were starters, and we couldn’t figure out why a kid would leave.

I have no idea why he's leaving but it would not be surprising if the new regime is not as enamored with JG as was the old regime. JMO but JB had a blind spot with JG and was often inclined to look past or ignore his flaws.

Some of these responses are just plain hilarious. The kid isn't good enough to play for us but can play at any other P5/6 school. Can't play defense but would be a great fit for a defensive minded Pitino St. Johns. Would be perfect for Purdue, Georgetown. The only school not mentioned yet is Villanova. Plus he would be great for the G league or overseas. These posters make me think I am watching Saturday Night Live instead of a message board.

The kid has the heart of a lion and vastly improved when moved to his natural position this year. There have admittedly been times when I yelled at the TV at him but if he wants another year I want him here. The team has vastly more potential with him than without him. I wish him well wherever he lands. Although I don't think the shorter playing time next year is a deterrent for him, who really knows. Maybe he is just ready to experience life outside of NY and this is the perfect one year opportunity for him. Congrats to whoever lands him.

Completely agree. Also, if he had played with Melo and Hakim, I think many would have a higher opinion of him.

I think next year we are going to wish we had a veteran guard that is a 3 point specialist and kind of miss Girard.

But I don't think there is any way around the fact that if we want to add to the team hes going to be demoted from his current role.

Good luck to him regardless I'll root for him wherever he ends up for sure and pay attention to their games.
