John and Fran need to go

Fran isn't going anywhere but he has lost most of the goodwill he gained last year. What concerns me is the culture. Going into this year, I was all aboard the DART train. I was confident that the culture was changing for the better. Even if we had a tough schedule and lost games, we would be competitive.

But the reality is that are not in the realm of being competitive with even mediocre teams. What i saw yesterday was a team with no fight, no heart and no desire to compete. A failing team culture. Believe me, I want Fran to succeed but he dug himself into a big hole this season. I don't see any easy fixes.
It's been said elsewhere but what happens to the team culture when 90% of the team knows they will not play next year at least here or at the P4 level. They know that Fran is on the phone with Penn St and Florida and all the other elite talent that hit the portal when their coaches got canned. 5 and 4 star guys coming in at every position group.

As someone that's seen many a Corporate layoff, the culture goes out the door as well as the motivation in the aftermath. It's Fran's job to clean house, that means the staff and team leaders as well. If he doesnt and this happens again then Houston we have a problem:)

Wake Forest is really small and manages to be more competitive than SU most years. We ought to be at least average among schools like Wake, Duke, Northwestern, SMU, Vanderbilt, BC, Pitt and Tulane. Far too often we are not.

I am not following this subthread closely, just skimming through, but Wake Forest, Pitt, Duke & some others manage to play a good brand of football, with the same constraints Syracuse has.

I think at schools like this you have to recruit gritty kids & coach them up & be innovative and efficient on gameday.

If Fran cannot GM us to these 3 things, he'll never be successful here.

You say this without the context that the team was down 21-0 before the defense even got on the field ha. I'm not even sure I saw the starters playing on defense most of the game, I saw 3rd and 4th string guys cuz why not. Someone above said traumatic. It is for the staff that's all young and over their heads in this situation and the players.
Yeah that certainly did not help but the defensive disaster has been an issue all year

I keep up with Wake from time to time being not far from them - they are always undersized but also innovative like with their mesh handoff/pass thing they do. That is one way to be competitive.

It’s also a sign they can’t compete without those sorts of tricks and innovations. Like when Dino went with our run heavy offense following the loss of Schrader … only for Wake it wasn’t a situational adaptation, it was how they need to play every game.

We could do this as well but it’s pretty clear our AD wants us to compete with big boy programs with as equal talent as we can manage and similar schemes. That’s the track we are on. Agreed that those schools listed SHOULD be peer schools.

100% agree. When you look at historical records, Wake has a higher floor and a lower ceiling. I remember a press conference with Shaw/Jake many years ago where the laid out the vision to be a 7 or 8 win program at Syracuse, where maybe once in a great while we'd see an outstanding year - it did not go over well. We're not using the same strategy as Wake...and I'm not on board with switching to that overall strategy.

Good lord man. Grob will go own as one of the worst head coaches ever. E-V-E-R. Notre Dame in 2008 was 7-6. They were not a good football team. Comparing that game to yesterday is mind boggling.
We were 25 pt underdogs in that one. They weren’t THAT bad.

GROB was atrocious but Fran embarrassed us w the effort . Have some dignity people. Like I said I’m fine w losing not ok w giving up.

A service academy would have beaten us 42-10

Whomever compared this to Miami 01 has to be examined. That Miami team was maybe the best ever .

Fran has a lot to fix. I just wonder what is going on behind the scenes. Is wildhack happy or is the program being run like a thrift store. No strategy no plan etc

Only wildhack knows.

the thing that gets me is when you are constantly preaching competition, dart, blah blah and your team plays like that it just rings to so hollow. It was trending that way before ND and then we just got one of the worst efforts ever in college football history and the only guy to blame is the head coach. I actually liked Dino's message of being consistently good before being great. It's all just BS coach speak but Fran talks and talks about being tough, physical, competing and I was watching the game thinking this looks worse than Greg Robinson era while the weeks before that looked just like the Greg Robinson era. Fran and the staff knew they had no chance to win that game and just kicked the can down the road thinking they could do whatever and lose by 28-35 points and move on. How about play to keep it respectable? Run clock, play smart etc. It was such an epic failure. The whole staff has stunk for 8 straight weeks, total disaster

Like I said, it's crazy how much Fran has to do this off season to try and right the ship. I just hope he sees the changes on the staff that need to be made. It's not just recruiting Fran, if it was he would be an SEC head coach

That Miami team could have not scored a single offensive TD and still went 8-4. One of the craziest stats I've ever heard. Had 38 players drafted, 17 first rounders and 13 of them went on to be pro bowlers. That team was L E G I T.

Separately, the thing with Fran that I actually really like is that he is a character made for tv or a movie. He's bold, brash, says wild things, etc. I love it.

I'm reminded of Jeremy Piven's character from the charming movie Serendipity, in which he was an obit writer for the NY Times where he relayed, "You know the Greeks didn't write obituaries, they only asked one question after a man died: 'Did he have passion?'".

Granted, that line isn't really accurate, but I'm saying it is for this post. Fran will never be at a loss for passion.

What it means? When we win, the world will know about it. When we lose... well, there are probably a lot of people waiting to remind us about it.

Not having a functional #2 QB and the ND game are unacceptable. Can't happen. Get it right next year. Get Angeli 100%. Get the right guys in and make the staffing changes needed.

More and more ppl seem to be agreeing with me so that is good to see. This week has been a terrible weekend for our big sports. Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. I have seen more teams quit this week than I have in years past.

CTO said he was fired. Which she would know. I was just saying I never ever heard that till today

Just proves how dimwitted this school is. Jake was the best AD we had. Kicking him to the curb really was dumb. I always thought he retired

maybe he was forced out and retired was a diplomatic way to say it, perhaps there is a backstory

Everywhere is two places, right?

We won 10 games last season. No ones arguing that this year is acceptable. But the guy had unprecedented success in year 1 and is on track to produce the best recruiting class here in 30 years.

A 3rd year isn’t unreasonable, no matter how angry you are.

3 years enough. Minimum of 5 probably 6. He has a roster of snout 1/2 his kids. He’ll add another 30-40 including portal this year. I would expect the same in 27. Then he would have all his kids but still only a hand full of jr’s, a larger number of sophomores and a load of freshmen. One more year you have a core group SU’s large group of jr’ s a boat load of soph and a new crop. You can back up to 26 and see trending 27 big jump if that happens it’s sustainable.

Fran you have one more year. 2026 is on the clock. To be embarrassed by 1 win BC.

John, you already struck out on on many. Lax fiasco. Women’s bball fiasco. Autry fiasco. Soon Fran fiasco.

U get one year more if u are putting in an honest effort

This is not effort. Wildhack knows best but this is just giving up. In any business you lose your job if u aren’t working. This is mailing it in

I can add couple more to the list too. Wildhack should be director of fundraising & let someone else run the athletic department & hire coaches.
