That would require 10 million plus with the rate things are going between rev share and collectives.A lot a lot… no set number right now but they will be a serious player

lolI'm sorry, but on paper this was a good team!
Yes, JJ got injured and Freeman got injured and shut it down. Both were McDonald's AAs!
Lampkin - 3 times in the NCAAs. Cuffe was good enough to get a scholarship to Kansas.
The other guys were stars at their lower level schools, just like Elijah Hughes, Andrew White, Alan Griffin, and several other guys who were big contributors for us as transfers. Yes, Choppa was mishandled and shut it down.
There's no way the talent level was that of a 20 loss team. It clearly was good enough for 20+ wins.
I'd actually reverse that order, at least for the vast majority of the season, esp when considering expectations going in. Bell was just a non-entity out there, it was almost eerieJJ, Carlos, Bell in that order just scared mice on the court late in games or when it mattered.
$3.5-4 million from rev share, $1 from players Era tourney, im just curious how much they will fundraise and how much Melo will help.A lot a lot… no set number right now but they will be a serious player
There’s not much value in that tactic now-Which totally negates the supposed benefit of the long contract in combating negative recruiting
It's all so stupid, that story never made sense
Many years ago, Jake Crouthamel said that he always had a list of head coaching options in his pocket. He was speaking of FB coaches, but I'm sure this applies to BB also.Let's hope that with Red coming back for at least (likely) 1 year that JW makes it known to Hodgson's agent (and any other coach's agent he is seriously interested in) that Syracuse is very interested in them so they can decide if the Syracuse job is worth waiting a year for.
Good AD's always say they have a list of potential coaches they would immediately contact if they need to make a coaching hire. Good AD's should know ahead of time who would be interested and likely to come to their school. Good AD's don't start from scratch a coaching search only after an opening occurs.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush - anyone worth anything is going to have good enough options this year that "wait a year and maybe Syracuse is a possibility" is basically of no value.
We can try...but I wouldn't expect anyone to pass on firm opportunities now for a "maybe" with us a year from now.
Disagree. Not on par at all. 80 out of 134 FBS schools make a bowl every season. The equivalent basketball numbers would be about 200 out of 350.Now, that's what you call a high standard! On par with the "making a bowl game" in football, when basically a team with half a pulse, etc. can find a way to get an invite nowadays.
If SU leadership is okay with setting such a relatively low bar for its once proud hoops program (5th winningest in history counting the 101 vacated W's) where the standard is here versus competing for conference titles, high seeds in the Dance, etc. as once accustomed, well, SU shouldn't really expect anything different from the fanbase relative to $$$, interest, etc.
How much money do you expect them to have for next season between rev share, NIl tournament and fundraising?
3) If a HS player stays on your roster for 4 years, do you really want him on your roster for 4 years?
We originally thought we did pretty good in the portal last offseason. It's tough to judge guys coming from low and mid-majors. Eddie, for all his shortcomings, coming from a P5 did as well as expected. Davis, Carlos and Taylor each had some moments but overall were underwhelming and disappointing.Red’s future will all be determined in the next 60 days. Next season’s success is almost entirely dependent on his ability to build a successful roster via the portal. If he assembles a roster that looks like this past season we know what the result will be.

Hodgson was toward the back end of ESPN’s top 20 hot mid major coaches list I posted in another thread. It may be another year before he gets hired. We shall see.I would love for you to be right on that. But I have a feeling he is going to be highly sought after this offseason. Some schools probably willing to pony up big bucks.
Meanwhile we are giving Red another year only to be inevitably fired when he fails which he will. What big name NIL player will want to play for a lame duck coach and program.
Pull the bandaid off now.
lol
This line of thought is why I’m also OK with JW using words like “meaningful” and “significant” versus giving hardline expectations. I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as Dino’s expectation of 7 wins which he fell short of. If he got that 7th win, he would have been our coach this past season.
I think it’s evident that expectations are we are solidly in the tournament and finishing high and competing with the upper echelon of the ACC. Mediocre (e.g. season 1) isn’t going to cut it.
Precisely why we can’t be adding any mid-low major players via the portal. If we’re not solely acquiring P5 conference guys then we’ll know this season is over before it starts. We originally thought we did pretty good in the portal last offseason. Well exactly, because this year's portal haul was bad - but weren't you just arguing that on paper it's good? That there's ample talent on this year's team? That's what I was lol-ing at, the idea we have sufficient talent right nowWhen the portal season is over, and we find out who is leaving, I challenge you to post the resumes of the new guys vs. the resumes of this year's team. I'm betting now that on paper it won't be close.

We have no choice as to who and if a new coach is or will be hired. How many fans had Fran Brown as their top hoice when Dino was let go. Heck, I bet at least 80 percent had no idea who he was and rom the way the story oes he called John Wildhack and sold himself. He was not a part of the people originally being discussed. We all know Reds' seat is hot next year. Let's see what happens. I have had the privilege of turning mediocre employees into good performers with a "come to Jesus" talk. Nothing makes a good person fight harder for their job than when their lifestyle is on the line.Top leaders know how to get things done and John us a very good leader for our athletic department.Hodgson was toward the back end of ESPN’s top 20 hot mid major coaches list I posted in another thread. Red might not even realize that he is allowed another staff member. However maybe he wants to allocate those funds to the player compensation poolAs soon as expanded staffs were allowed, the AD should be right there saying "here is your budget for new coaches". And, on the other side, Red should have been beating down the door asking for that money.
JB retirement wasn't JW fault. His hands were tied and JB was a total arse. He had to be dragged out. Jim was horrible in the end. Blaming that clown show on JW is completely wrong.JW doesn’t have a great track record for basketball. The JB retirement and transition was a mess. Immediately went with Red after it was clear the program needed a fresh start.
Tell me again what Wildhack has done to deliver desired results in men’s basketball?
It's how Fran is buildingDepends on the playerI will take Kam Jones as a 4-year player.
Honestly, I understand for Red and next year he needs players or he is fired, so it is a little different for him, but chasing the portal every year will put us in an arms race we will never win. We as a program that will always be near the middle in NIL or "second" tier in NIL, so will need a mix of both. We are going to need to have a great foundation of high school recruiting that we can build a solid core of players each year. Perfect world, these are our 8-10th players on our roster, and then as sophomores they move up to rotation players. etc. The portal should be used to keep our top players home and to supplement our core with quick fills from year to year.
That is the only model where Syracuse is going to succeed in this college landscape, and of course we need to spend money on a high-end coach and coaching staff and all the extras we can. Specialized shooting coaches etc. With a pro style, fast-paced spread 3-point shooting NBA offense.
RE the bolded part - if that's the case, which I don't believe it is, that's a fireable offense by itself.Red might not even realize that he is allowed another staff member. However maybe he wants to allocate those funds to the player compensation pool
