Johntay Cook in the portal

Oh no! How will replace Cook's 2 td's, suspect hands and ball security, lack of effort in routes or knowledge of the playbook??! Surely we cannot hope to replace a player that broke 0 tackles and constantly got tracked down from behind and looked winded!!? It must be about money!!

I suggest anyone that thinks this is a massive loss due to his 5 stars 3 years ago goes and actually watches his highlights. Even on many of his catches the ball is constantly being stripped end of play but still count because he was luckily ruled down or the fumble bounced out of bounds. His long catch at Clemson he had a 5 yard head start and got tracked down easily by 2 DBs and a 1 legged JRS from behind before being stripped end of play. He couldn't outrun UCONN defenders nor break their tackles but I think the most telling thing about him is what he didn't do vs Colgate. He caught a crossing route and couldn't get the edge to turn up feild by outrunning Kenny freaking Langston. Not a knock on Langston but he's 6'0 200 lbs SS and had a reported 4.74 40 on his own hudl recruiting highlights. Guy didn't even have a profile on major recruiting sights. Surely an "elite 5 star athlete" shouldn't be be brought down from behind by him. This is all on Cook's mid-season highlight reel on YouTube.

We gave Cook a chance to prove his worth and he certainly did so. It's just not anywhere near what his entourage or stargazers think it is. He showed nothing that isn't easily matched or surpassed by existing or incoming players given the same chances and only showed effort when he decided to be interested. Will be extremely curious to see where he ends up with his contract demands as coaches will see the same in film.

Nah.

Just send a private PM to the posters who appreciate your info.

Time to bring back the payside so known posters can share the exact same info without being accosted by folks demanding 5 cited sources vs just being appreciative of what is shared by those who know their information to true.

Hope oldpinepoint isn't actually done sharing amongst others here that many of us are extremely thankful to have shared insights from.

You can pay me, and I'll tell you everything I know.

I don't know Diddley ;)

Guys, some of the guys that we are upset about leaving were told to leave. I can't and won't get in to it more than that.
Shouldn’t this staff be better at judging character than? We’ve thrown out half the offense. What’s going to the stop the next group of guys from being bad apples as well?

This one doesn’t bother me a bit. You explained it perfectly and if someone’s uncle is chirping about stuff in background we should have stopped throwing him the ball at all.

I’m hopeful that the pass heavy nature of this offense will make us a somewhat appealing spot for WR’s. That’s seemingly been the case at the HS level based on our 26 class and the early signs of our 27 class.
I hoped that in Dino's first few years when our WRs were setting school records and being named all-league. It didn't work out then. Maybe Fran will leverage it better.

Just based on recruiting this year / the guys we’re most competitive on for next year it seems like we do a good job on WR’s but we’ll see tbh.

I think we kind of did stop throwing to him. His late season snap count was highly diminished and other guys got looks.

I said it weeks ago, but he was far from a guaranteed starter if he stayed. He would've had to work his ass off this offseason to earn that... but instead he tried to leverage more money?

He's been getting a lot of bad advice over the years and seems to have a distorted self value as result. I actually kind of feel bad for the guy as others are effectively ruining his golden ticket. He's been told he's LeBron but he plays like Bronny... but still is convinced he's LeBron. I half wonder if he even knows this.

IMO, he gave up giving his all and si if he leaves I will wish him good luck and bring in someone who will!

In his defense, and I’ll say it a million times, when the coaching staff gives up, why should we surprised that players do as well? The culture is set from the top

Unfortunately. But there was a clear effort gap between Cook and Gill. I think we needed Gill back more than Cook. He and Angeli seemed to click also. Angeli made all the receivers better though. I just hope we are not getting too cocky and assuming that any WRs are plug and play in our system.

I agree, to a point, however, the type of player we need doesn’t give up!

I am not judging effort as I think Fran didn't give his all last season either.
That said, kid doesn't seem to be worth the money.
And you know this how? One could say he had things to learn, as a head coach and I think that is valid.

Same way you know Cook effort had slid.
Try again, I watched every play of all the games and saw Cooks lack of effort and also saw HCFB’s frustration; 2 different things. You could argue that he was inexperienced and made some poor judgment calls. However, giving up is a different accusation. How do you judge that with your eyes?
