Just watched the game again

Insert Jennifer Lawrence OK meme here.

258 yards and 7 points. Everything is fine.

Dude - he had a phenomenal game. How can you not see it. 7 points is 7 more than zero. That might have been a national championship team we played.

he’s the only guy that right now gives any hope of having a pass game, and he’s shown he can make plays with his legs. I don’t want an offense that depends on a guy free lancing as the go to play

You mean like the guy/QB that largely led us to a 10 win season b/c he prob realized the play calls sucked.

it’s game two acumen boy

Actually it’s year 6 of a coach with a losing record and one good season that more and more looks like it was a result of a freelance QB and someone else’s recruits. Which interestingly is when DB does the best.

And you people are nuts.

Devito had three possessions in the first quarter and the only thing that keeps him from have a A+ is him and Queeley not being on the same page on the first possession.

his only other incompletion was on the slant in the redzone that bounced off of Harris.

Third quarter started with a three and out with Harris dropping a dime down the right sideline that would have gone for 40 and a dropped slant to Johnson

followed that up the deep ball on the next possession that led to the td.

the 4th quarter was rough but that fumble was 99.5% on tisdale, and tisdale knew it. Someone on here said he held the ball for 8 secs , what a load of crap, tisdale got power rushed immediately, and his guy ran over him and swatted the ball as he was falling into devitos legs.

1st and 3rd every read was correct, he went with the ball where he supposed to, he threw to all all parts of the field, including multiple completions between the hash’s, and spread it around. I don’t think he was sacked until late in the third.
OMG, I see it now. Tommy IS the answer.

Sigh...

Just the same way it's hard to measure what Dungey did to win or keep us in games, Tommy is the opposite. He can throw ropes - and was screwed multiple times yesterday - but he's a lock-and-load to one receiver and it works or really doesn't.

And that 4th quarter was a disaster. Let's not overly celebrate the ten seconds we had the ball in the third quarter when the final, pivotal 15 minutes he couldn't get anything done. Not just on him, but defending him and calling people nuts...is nuts.

I watched the game late last night after reading posts here directly after the game. Pretty clear a course correction would happen on rewatch for some.

Drive killing penalties and bad calls (Taj fumble) on us in 1st half, uneven performance in the 3rd with helpful calls for Rutgers. I’m 90% certain the advanced stats will have our win probability higher than Rutgers by a wide margin until late in the 4th. They probably won with a negative EPA.

I still like this team and think we’ll win 6. Hold me to it.

We were promised an offense designed for the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo and ended up with one for Trent Dilfer

FSU/UL very winnable

Liberty winnable

No idea if Wake/NCt st will be

Pitt/BC show a pulse on offense

Clemson at home with worse teams we have given them some tough games

VT lets see how they do vs WV/ND/Pitt. are they 3-3 or 6-0 or somewhere in between.

Fwiw this did not.

Can we score more then 7 points against Albany or liberty before we call FSU or Louisville “very winnable”

Dino has only beat FSU and LVille once each and that was in his miracle season 2018. A 2 for 10 win record doesn’t exactly give me confidence either in those games

We have lost it as a fan base.

never truly were in control of this game. Sure TD may look good on film but please be honest w yourself: is there a player capable of a game changing play?

we aren’t good, game management is awful and I have seen it for 3 years now.

I act think this team is very poorly constructed if orange is the new fast. We. Don’t. Have. Receivers. Taj is a good 3rd guy.

End of the day Tommy seems to get let down by his WRs early, the game speeds up, he tightens up and that's that. Last season at UNC he was hitting guys on their helmets and through their hands. Want to see the younger guys.

Stats don’t mean you’re a good qb

Tommy is terrible. His stats were okay at best but the actual gameplay was awful

He has just over a 50% completion, 249 yards 0tds and 1 INT

Shrader should start and play the entire game against Albany.

Make a decision off of that if Shrader or Devito starts against Liberty.

Shrader was getting into the flow when Dino pulled him out. Makes no sense.

I swear sometimes, if I didn’t know better, Dino is purposely trying to lose games.

Rewatch the game. Remove the emotion.

One thing you usually can't see on TV is when guys are open downfield and the qb holds the ball or throws to a guy who is covered. From my seat in the Dome, we could see how many times TD threw past an open guy to someone who was covered. I'm also not sure he made the right read on a handful of running plays. I felt like he could have had a few more runs like the one he broke off to midfield. But the ob throws are still a problem with him.

Ahh - the old “stats are ok, but he’s actually worse” argument.

Shrader is fine, but he throws ducks. I think Tommy is still the way to go. We beat Albany, then we’ll see if we have a season to salvage against Liberty.

yep, good point.

Can’t tell what Shrader does, he barely got a chance to run the offense.

All we know is Tommy ain’t it.

I can’t believe you’re still riding the Tommy train. He was pitiful. He was the same Tommy we’ve seen from the last 2 years and it isn’t good.

Tommy ship has sailed here.

Shrader might not be a lot better but at least he a breath of fresh air

The announcers were openly talking about how he locks in. I believe this is the second week in a row this has happened.

The issue is that people are evaluating Tommy against what he did and not what could have happened. I get it, you measure what you see, but the coaches, no matter who they are, cannot coach like that.

So, did Tommy do some things well? Yes. He does some things well. What he doesn't do is raise the level of others. He doesn't extend plays. I get it's always easy to root for QB2, but in this case, we need something different or else we are limiting our offense.

Tommy cannot make the magic happen in terms of progression, in terms of making unscripted plays with his feet consistently, understanding feel for pressure and making his WRs better than they are and that is what we need because we are mediocre at most positions on the offensive side of the ball.

Tommy has been given the longest leash for a QB we have ever had, maybe. GS is getting slammed and has played a handful of snaps.

Dino is playing for his job. Do you think a guy playing for his job would force GS into a game because he doesn't think he's the right guy to win the season?

Tommy is a good game manger that needs a running game (check) and a downfield threat (which we do not have) to be effective. He isn't going to make plays for you. The 4th Q we needed him to sling it around and the spot light was on him. The first three Qs he was decent as he wasn't the focal point. The second he became the focal point he failed miserably.

Shrader will not be as good of a game manger as Tommy. He also won't be able to sling it around, but since Tommy turtles up when asked to do so that advantage is gone. If Shrader is more of a play maker, he 110% should start. If he isn't a play maker then he shouldn't have been in those 3 drives vs Rutgers.

If we don't have a decent option besides Tommy, then he should start and get all but situational reps. That would scare the crap out of me though if our other options aren't good enough to try.

Dinos time here is likely done either way if I’m being 100% honest

I get it, you’re all in on TD. I thought he looked his sharpest, ever, on the drive before GS came in during the 2nd quarter.

We can go back and discuss every play, the result doesn’t change. And it’s not all his fault, but he’s not going to be the guy to lead us to greener pastures either.
The game is about scoring points not whether you happen to look good and run the right plays. If you don't score you failed. Part of this offense is to read the defense and react according to what the defense.
If you have a play called, and the defense changes you have to adjust. Eric as a senior made adjustments when the play call was wrong. Tommy has never been able to do that. That makes it time to make a change and get someone who can read and react properly.

This ^^^

Going from memory and the play by play:

1st Drive
I thought Tommy wasn't good. The first play he threw it late and gave Taj zero chance at YAC. That could have been a big play. The 2nd play I thought it was intentional grounding and was surprised to not see a flag right away. He was under a little pressure faded back and threw it away. Then 3rd down was incomplete, don't remember the play exactly.

2nd and 3rd drives
He was good these drives. He had a great throw in traffic over the middle to Taj. The penalty and fumble cost us, not Tommy.

4th drive
Beautiful pass to Taj, who simply cannot catch a ball in stride consistently. Do we not have another option?

5th drive
Another great pass to Taj that led to a TD.

6th drive
This was a big drive. We had some momentum and went 3 and out. Tommy was sacked on 2nd down, don't remember if it was his fault or not. 3rd down was incomplete.

7th drive
Almost a copy of the last drive. 2nd down Tommy is sacked. 3rd down I think he throws it way out of bounds, but that may have been another drive.

8th drive
This is the sack and fumble. Not sure why we abandoned the run drives 6-8.

9th drive
I was shocked Tommy came out for this drive. The last 3 drives were garbage (two 3 and outs and a 1st play sack/fumble). I really expected to see Shrader. Tommy had a nice run on 1st down. 2nd down it says he ran for no gain, don't remember the play. 3rd down is incomplete.

10th drive
He is sacked on first down, don't remember who at fault. He dumped it off to Tucker the next 2 plays. Next play he has a nice run. Then an incomplete, another dump off, and then the INT.

I know a few sacks he held thew ball to long not sure which drives. I remember he had a bad pass to Sharod at one point as well.

He played in 10 drives. I would say he was good in 4 of them, bad in 6 of them (including the last 5 drives). That isn't going to cut it.
