Just watched the game again

Rewatch the game. Remove the emotion.

Cusian love the enthusiasm and positive attitude. I'm not being snarky. it's helpful and great in this super cynical world of everything these days. I actually try and NOT care about any of this stuff anymore. But here we are 2021, me taping the Syracuse game b/c i'm at a X Country meet waiting to get home and watch it with a beer and a tuna sandwich.

But i'll not take you up on re-watching that game. At some point my gut instinct during the game was enough for me to realize this ship is going in the wrong way. To give you some perspective, I watched the Patriots lose yesterday and had a smile on my face at the end. Why? Because the QB is going to be fun to watch, they had a game plan, they executed it, and ended up losing on a fumble. It happens but there was 240 green shoots.

I just don't see the green shoots with this program anymore. I'll still watch and rearrange my tv viewing b/c I love Syracuse. But unless i'm completely wrong about Dino this thing is going downhill fast.

I really hope i'm just a negative nancy and see nothing positive with the program and will be the guy who is starting threads on "You think Dino stays????"

You’re not.

I loved Dino, wanted him to be the guy.

When Tommy came I couldn’t wait to see him play after watching tape etc.

But here we are, the last three seasons now have been exactly the same.

We are extremely stagnant and not progressing.

We were seduced by the offense, the high flying aspect of it.

At this point if you are gonna run the Baylor offense just go get Art Briles. At least we're getting the guy who perfected it. I get the residue with him. But this is college football. The corrosiveness of the entire industry lends itself to guys like Briles.

The announcers were openly talking about how he locks in. I believe this is the second week in a row this has happened.

The issue is that people are evaluating Tommy against what he did and not what could have happened. I get it, you measure what you see, but the coaches, no matter who they are, cannot coach like that.

So, did Tommy do some things well? Yes. He does some things well. What he doesn't do is raise the level of others. He doesn't extend plays. I get it's always easy to root for QB2, but in this case, we need something different or else we are limiting our offense.

Tommy cannot make the magic happen in terms of progression, in terms of making unscripted plays with his feet consistently, understanding feel for pressure and making his WRs better than they are and that is what we need because we are mediocre at most positions on the offensive side of the ball.

Tommy has been given the longest leash for a QB we have ever had, maybe. GS is getting slammed and has played a handful of snaps.

Dino is playing for his job. Do you think a guy playing for his job would force GS into a game because he doesn't think he's the right guy to win the season?
which makes me wonder if Dino is really coaching for his job? we all assume a 3 win season ends his run...

I think he is. I don't know what the threshold is, but I think he knows that not only is a bad showing this season going to get him fired, it's also going to really limit his options in terms of his next gig.

I think the guy has aspirations to coach top tier P5 school and almost had it in his grasp after the 10 win seasons and wants to get back there. I'm not saying he can, I just think he is aware of the ramifications if we bomb this season.

I remember something he said in an interview before the Maryland game about their head coach. Discussed how he got fired previously put got another opportunity which does not usually happen. Seemed like foreshadowing.

Ahh - the old “stats are ok, but he’s actually worse” argument.

Shrader is fine, but he throws ducks. I think Tommy is still the way to go. We beat Albany, then we’ll see if we have a season to salvage against Liberty.
His stats are terrible

I love how people think the playbook solves anything here. I'm sure that devito would thriiiiive in a more complex offense, right
And our backup can’t even throw the ball. I really hope we have someone good coming in soon, we’re in trouble.

TD lost the game in the 4th quarter because he doesn’t know how to hold onto the football. No excuse for that turnover.

The reason we lost that game was because of penalties and a great punter. Period. After watching Schiano get away with screaming at the ref with every swear word known to New Jersey, Dino gets called? Seriously. Cantin-Arku never touched the receiver. Harris's knee was down. How far was Bergeron off the line?
You guys are ready to fire a coach who held a team that scored 61 points in their last game to zero points at the half. They would've only scored 3 if the penalties hadn't been "appropriated" at the right moments. We were 1 and 10 last year. It was a good game. Great defenses. Our line mostly held up. Give it a break.

in fairness they scored 61 points on like 360 yards of offense. A statistical impossibility.

The throw to Johnson on the slant in the third was way behind him. A better receiver could have caught it but that ball was not on the money.

It was a terrible pass. Any talk of Sharod 'should have' caught it are nonsense. He had to turn his body 180 degrees while moving in the opposite direction just to get his hands on it. Maybe a pro catches it but the pass was awful.

**edit** a pro dropped the exact same pass last night in the Raiders/Ravens game. 1st or 2nd quarter. Carbon copy duplicate of this play.

that is such nonsense, go watch it again
Ironically, I just did. There was 10 minutes left on the clock in the 4th quarter and we were down 7 points. The turnover resulted in another 3 points for Rutgers and killed any possible momentum. There is no excuse for TD not protecting the football.

It was 2.5 secs from snap to the strip, he was about to throw to Jackson who was running a shallow cross.

The only way he could have protected the ball was running immediately after he caught the snap because he should know his right guard was going to get run over or dropped to the ground. I guess he could have heaved down the middle of the field for grabs like Aaron Rodgers did yesterday

you saw the result, you didn’t look at what actually happened

it was a bad play, but it’s all on Tisdale

Tommy was holding the ball to low.

Thats a ridiculous assertion. Oh boy here comes the bull rush I should hold the ball up higher. Come on.

If anything his lack of pocket awareness didn't help. He sees it coming and he's too slow to react. I think he kind of non chalants it and he misjudged. If think he could've avoided it better.

One play I'm going to slam DeVito on is the 3rd and 13 with 14:20 left in the 4th Q. This is the one TD air mails way out of bounds. He has Cooper or Pena running all alone in the center of the field at the 50 yard line. 25 yards down field. TD has tons of time and even steps up in the pocket. From the time of the snap to the pass is only 4 seconds but he has way more time than that and a clean pocket. It's unexplainable how he doesn't see this if he's actually scanning the field. My sense is that he had so much time his PTSD kicked in and he just unloaded it. The pass he threw was to the SU bench on their side of the 50 but it was also into double coverage. It's really inexcusable to miss this play.

Yes, I understand it sounds ridiculous, but he was holding the ball waist high and the defender just reached up and swatted it loose. Like you said and we all know pocket awareness failure.

edit: Here is the moment the ball drops loose. Is it too low? It was for what ended up happening. You may think differently if you want.

Was it to Taj? Otherwise it was the play called.
