The board has been a cesspool for much of the season, so except for the daily links I stopped reading threads months ago. I started again during the NCAA's and caught Dasher's item about Kadary being a potential portal denizen. Dash is a longtime poster whose info is generally solid so I knew Richmond was potentially gone.

Despite Dash's statement that it was not due to playing time, I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to scan the board and see people ripping JB and Joe for Kadary's departure.

Haha...no, of course I was not shocked.

Just some quick comments of the departures. First off, Dash said Woody is gone so I believe him. Woody has tremendous upside, and I don't know exactly what happened, but it is what it is. I mean, I thought Taurean Thompson had tremendous upside, so what do I know.

Last year when we lost the three guards, I told a friend that...long-term...I felt their departure would be no worse for the program than the Great Kaleb Joseph/Ron Patterson Migration. That has turned out to be true, although I thought that by stepping down a notch that either Carey or Goodine would be better than they have been so far. Kadary is a different matter. He has significant potential and is thus a real loss. Now, I'm not a poster who feels that he already possesses all the current skills of Pearl and Sherm's Forbidden Love Child. He is not a finished product and has a few significant development areas. Lots of schools have guards who are his current equal. Lots have guards who are better than him currently. But I do feel those development areas will be developed and he will prove to be a major loss.

It's a funny year; there are major schools losing starters to the portal. There are some very good replacements for Kadary already in the portal. Will we get one? Who knows. Not Dick_in_MI, that's for sure.

Quincy could go either way. Teams often draft on potential and he might be happy being stashed in the G-League for awhile. Or he might be happy playing abroad. He is older, he speaks French, he has nice hair. Truthfully, I think he is gone.

Alan is what Bernie Fine used to refer to as "that bastard size"...a 6'5" player, of which the hoops world contains many. They generally don't get drafted unless they are outstanding in a particular area, and Griff, so far, is not. Or he could be like Matt Moyer or the previously-mentioned Thompson and not mind going from school to school.

Jon Bol is no surprise and I wish him the best.

Bras is an intersting case. He will never be good enough to start at SU, so going elsewhere makes sense. However, he has been injured throughout his career, to the point of being unable to play a year ago. He would seem to be damaged goods in the eyes of coaches at potential landing spots, so we will see.

Crazy times.

We need Woody to stay. Please!

All I'll say is that it's better to hold on to talent than to try to find it. Our struggles finding a competent PG the past few years only underlines that.

As for ripping Boeheim. Listen, everyone appreciates the heck out of what he's done here. BUT every person in the world eventually becomes more of a liability than an asset in their job.

I'm very surprised that people continue to defend JB on this one. 100% deserves total blame and massive criticism.

I appreciate all JB has done for Syracuse basketball, but he's not immune to criticism.

I'm looking forward to his retirement. I hope he recognizes it's time to retire soon and does the right thing. Wildhack can't let this linger on for more than a season or two more.

Good post, Dick. I agree that at times people went a bit over the top in their Kadary praise. I suspect some of it was the fact that SU hasn't had a pure PG in ages, so seeing one with Kadary's immediate skills, and long term potential, was intoxicating.

We at least got incredibly productive years out of MCW and Ennis before they left early, so it's fair to feel a bit robbed by only getting a season of limited minutes from Kadary.

Thank you for the kind words Dick. like you , I am on the verge of leaving this board. At one time, it was so much fun and enjoyable. Now, it isn't. Every time I share something, I end up wishing I hadn't. It is a cesspool. There a few posters that I like the give and take with and a private board I am on that is quite good. But life is too short to spend it with what we have seen here for the past few months...years...I really think this board is in much worse shape than our hoop program

Tell Kadary he will be the starting guard He should be

For what it is worth I have it on good source that Kadary's departure had everything to do with the starting position next year.
Be should be told he will start as he should be, why lose him. Joe G should be on bench and come in when needed

Braswell was good enough to get starters minutes the last four games of the season.

Seeing the program decline in it's results has been difficult. Many of us, alums including have at least given some money back through buying tickets or donations. Furthermore, sent a lot of money to a private institution.

I am not sure what is considered the appropriate way to be frustrated with results and performance. Is it to just look at the kids who were recruited and then moved on, failed to meet expectations or were simply bad fits and shrug? I guess I struggle with who to be critical of? Is it just mea culpa for spending money on my alma mater and expecting better?

As a positive optimistic person I am not one to vilify. I do see that there is reasonable justification to question and criticize actions. Doing so to people vs their actions can walk a very fine line and I think it is fair to say that line can be crossed here if not intentionally.

At the end of it I think it is fair to question decisions that seem to make limited sense from former players and analysts alike when they are paired with results that are below par. If the thought is this is done disrespectfully I think that is fair with some of the posts on here if not the fallacy of tone that a message board fails to deploy.

To my knowledge JB has never promised anyone a starting job. He's certainly not the type of guy who would be essentially coerced into promising it ultimatum style. I doubt we would want a coach who was making all kinds of promises to all kinds of players. Again it comes down to, you either trust the judgment of the coach or the judgment of the rabble on a message board. There can be no logical reason to think that any of you a) can evaluate talent better than JB, b) understand the game, the plan, or the fit better than he does, or c) have more information pertinent to the decisions about playing time than JB does.

Also, there is nothing anyof us can do about this anyway. We are spectators. That is unless some of the discontent a player feels is stoked by the noise the rabble created on social media.

Dasher deserves no chit when he posts something it’s always informed.
Any morons that challenge his info do more than having a chilling effect.

On Kadary leaving JB deserves major crap. If the fanbase accepts we aren’t going to be a conference contender than frustration should go down.

JB coaching doesn’t appear to have the long term health of the program. That isn’t ideal.
We have 1 verbal for 2021 and need multiple recruits for 2022.
People can be optimistic but people can also be worried.

If these last years are just everyone shut up JB gets to go out and expectations are to be a plucky mid-conference team then JB deserves to go out with his sons.

Thoughtful post that is destined to be overrun by hyperbolic, repetitive nonsense.

Not to pile on with hyperbole, but that's my fear as well.

He's earned the right to go out on his own terms, but if the goal is for him to simply coach both of his kids to the exclusion of other good players, than that's detrimental to the goal. You simply can't chase off good players, especially ones with Richmond's potential and ability.

Now, watch us do just enough in the transfer portal to be semi-competitive next year, and quell these concerns. But big picture -- this is a huge setback, and it sucks. Borderline negligence in terms of roster management.

No one is blaming you. People are pissed at Boeheim and the direction of the program. Your info is good.

Yep. Love JB, as most of us do. My family lives around the corner from him and are casual acquaintances, (I am in London for the past 12+ years). He is a legend, but the slow, gradual decline of the program, occasional post-season surprises notwithstanding, is undeniable. We REALLY need to get this next hire right. And it is time.

In the Kadary thread there were mentions that Kadary would end up being the bigger person about this and not say anything and JB would.
Shocking!

While I like most really appreciate the time you take to provide information I honestly don’t know why you do - good for you if you can focus on the good folks on this board and not the tools. I’d have been long gone : )
