Kadary transferring to Seton Hall

I don’t follow recruiting so never really have a clue what star anyone is. I watch the games though. But no I haven’t watched too much of Villanova the last 2 years. A little bit this year but I don’t remember him making an appreciable impact in the games I saw. Probably because he wasn’t one of their main guys.

All of that could have been said about Braswell by a casual non-Syracuse fan watching a handful of our games.

Historically isn’t the issue.
If all you care about is the tournament just say that.
Tournament success we have been good.
Our regular seasons are medicore.
The gaps between programs have to do with the fact we have a large fanbase, elite recruiting facility and more success.

The fact we have more pluses doesn’t mean the gap between the teams on the court the last 7 years isn’t large.

You don’t have the expectations of old Syracuse. Which is fine.
Others want to pretend we are still old Syracuse once that goes away and people accept we are middle of the road conference team that can be dangerous in March then okay.
So you’d rather be SH?

My expectations are the same as they were when I went to my first game as a 9yo. I expect to win. Every time the Orangemen take the floor my expectations are victory.

Where I diverge from you is that I see a whole slew of variables that have hurt this program’s chances to do that since 2013. Sanctions, god-awful shitty luck with injuries and guys going pro earlier than we expected. You seem to ignore the real world variables that haven’t gone our way. You also ignore the success we’ve had in this slumping period. Success that SH fans would kill for!

And also where we diverge is that I believe THE reason I’ve had winning expectations for the Orangemen since I was 9yo is Jim Boeheim. I believe he can get us back to where we want to be.

Never said I would rather be SH.

The regular seasons between the program haven’t been much different the last 7 years.

If you don’t care about regular season success and only care about the tournament then you don’t care.
I think you are the fan that accepts we aren’t old Syracuse.
If the fanbase accepts old Syracuse is gone then people won’t be as frustrated because the expectations are lower.

I dunno what to tell you man. You need to re-read my post if you think my expectations are lower or my frustration doesn’t boil at times watching these teams over the past handful of years.

But you guys live in this Fantasy world where you think Boeheim is running a Madden franchise. This is real life. Shiz happens. It’s not always going to run like a top. He has to deal w real ppl, red tape, and truth be told - a governing body that has it out for him. Sometimes you get your azz kicked and knocked to the ground even if you’re good. Jim Boeheim is good and Jim Boeheim got his azz kicked and beat to the ground.

I count on him getting back up.

Somewhat of a red herring. I don't accept that we haven't been ranked during the season over the last 7 years. I'm glad we finished this year ranked. It is interesting that it is 7 years. God forbid we should make it 8. The sanctions hurt more than most casual observers would know. Not for just the ship reduction. Although, of course that hurt. But having only two coaches on the road when every other school had 4. Last I looked, you can only be in 1 place at 1 time. No matter who you are. The sanctions are gone and we have two 5 star recruits (so far) in the next two classes. On the other hand, at some pt, the coaches age is going to come in to play on the recruiting front. But oddly it seems, not for a while. Ask a million college hoop fans what they think of the Hall and the Cuse. See if it comes out close? Ask 300 D-1 A.D.'s what they think? I don't think that will come out close either. As for in conference records since we joined the ACC, I don't think other than Nova, there is anything close to what the top of the ACC has. I don't think it is a coincidence that after a number of teams left, the Hall and P.C. picked things up. But mostly, I really don't care. What I care about is that the Cuse has had a good couple of days. Swider and Lands. And still, people aren't happy. It is like after a nice regular season win this year, many were not at all happy. It's okay to put off misery for a day or two. It will still be there when Frank leaves.

You are doing Day’s work for him.
So I give you that.
You know my points. No need to say them to you.
You also acknowledge the truth so I say you are the prototype good faith actor.

Simple question do you believe the HC is doing everything he can to be old Syracuse?

This was all started by OrangeDW (spelling) when he reacted to CuseRunner saying “”what he transferred down in program”. CuseRunner may say some crazy things (as we are all prone to) but his statement was true.

Everyone knows Seton Hall is a step down in program from Cuse.

Dayton has been better than Indiana lately but if someone transferred from Indiana to Dayton it’s a step down and no one who knows anything would argue.

San Diego state has been better than Arizona and UCLA. We all know who the better program is.

Buffalo has been better than Maryland but we know who the better program is.

Uconn has been better lately than Boston College but we all know BC is the better program.

We shouldn’t argue over this dumb topic and should choose different dumb topics to argue over.

Cuse

Meh. We’ve been more or less the same for a half decade. And that’s the problem. Deny it and talk about old stuff all you want. We’re known as the perennial bubble team by everybody that’s 20 or less, now.

I would have said No a day ago. He hasn't been. Right now, I can't say that. I know that they are now hitting the portal and hitting the recruiting trail. I am happy about that. I wasn't happy with the effort not long ago. But I don't know what may or may not have been said behind the scenes. Right now, has a different feel to it. Honestly, ask me that same question again down the road.

Hoping for a big time PG commit for class of 2022. Can play alongside a senior Girard. We’ll really be on our way then.

Yep. That’s why he got bazley and Dior although we lost both for different reasons. That’s why he got Benny. That’s why he got Lands. He’s still trying to get, and has been, high end talent. I could even throw in Greene and tucker who were stolen from us. It’s not for lack of trying.

This is why you are Teddy Roosevelt mixed with Yoda.

Great answer totally fair.

High end talent is one thing.
Getting point guards and bigs are another.

Dasher’s said what I believe.

tucker wasn’t a high end recruit

You are just trying to butter me up for the poker table. It will not work.

I hope by June tournaments are back in CT.
If not you a 1-2, 2-5 NL or 4-8 limit guy?

I think we also have seen similar dips over 45 years. Spots where for whatever reason we couldn’t maintain the highest output. I remember the takes right before 2003.

There’s only a few HC’s who’ve had a similar run of success with fewer dips.

In the final analysis, Kadary just did not see himself as a Syracuse kind of guy. The teams he was linked to SH, FSU and OSU are very different kinds of programs than Syracuse. They fashion themselves as big strong, imposing teams who like to think they can out tough opponents. Syracuse is a whole different breed of cat, unique unto itself. It posses a kind of magic that comes to the fore over and over and over again. That's what makes Syracuse basketball special. Wish Kadary could have seen it and felt it. Good luck to him at SHU.

you can deny it all you want. He’s been trying to make the team the best he can. And FYI, Green and Dior are PGs. As was Carey who many thought would be a star. It’s not for lack of trying.

If we add another guard for next year and have 4 that is an important question.
If we want to be a top team having only 3 guards doesn’t say that. We can make the tournament with 3.
I don’t believe we can be a really good team with just 3.

I do think GMac has been working his ass off and getting results he deserves for his effort.

this is fair.
for 2021 though, will we try to get a PG in portal?

if we are trying, which I don’t doubt, I really need to see another guard on next years team in some capacity.

Deny we’re a better program than Seton Hall.

Look, I get it. You figured Richmond would be helping UK or FSU reach the Final Four, or at the very least helping Ok. St. contend in the Big 12. This is as much a What moment for you as just about everyone else, you’re just handling it differently.

Let’s try this another way. If Seton Hall is the lateral move you say it is and you’re Richmond, why even bother? He’ll have as much competition for PT there as he did here. If it’s just about being closer to home, how is that on JB?

According to Blackwell, Richmond’s wanted out since the start of the season. So maybe he just didn’t want to be here, instead of this being an indictment of the program. I can’t think of a more depressing place in the middle of a pandemic than an SU dorm/apartment.
