Kent State to hire Sean Lewis

I knew Sowder would go somewhere. Thought it would be at Syracuse, maybe no interest. I'm excited who the new 2 hires will be though.

I always found it curious that Sowder didn't come to Syracuse with Babers, but maybe he wasn't invited. beats me.

Definitely curious about Sowder. I thought it would be him for sure. Very curious about the OC hire now. I always thought the 10th assistant would be an internal promotion for someone but that will be interesting also.

Looks like Tom Kauffman is going with Sean to be the DC. Glad we locked up our lb commits yesterday.

Edited: I'm an idiot...

it goes without saying that a coach would want to upgrade his staff but when Babers says we want to be better than we were I have this confidence that's how it'll turn out. He seems to have a real knack for hiring good up and comers or good old dogs.

Can't even offer guesses but it's exciting.

Yeah he had influence over our LB recruits while coaching the D at Chattanooga this year...

I don't think Babers is looking for a new OC. Lynch will probably just be the sole owner of that title now. Probably just hire a QB coach.

I could see that. Still would like them to fill the 2 openings as a whole in staff.

Dino was interviewed on Brent Axe's On the Block show last night.

He said all 5 of the assistants on his original staff at BGU were now either OCs at D1 universities or in Lewis' case, a HC. He was very proud of that. He congratulated Sean on getting the job and said he was ready and would do a tremendous job at Kent. It seemed very genuine to me.

When asked about how he would fill the new 10th slot on his staff, he said some people were adding a dedicated special teams coach, some were adding a 'super duper' recruiting specialist and some were adding a coach to offense or defense to even things out (up to now, the limit was 9, so for many staffs, one side of the ball had 4 coaches and one 5).

He said he hadn't decided yet what way he would go and was keeping his options open. Based on how he was talking though, I do not expect him to hire a special teams coach.

He said the opportunity to add 2 new coaches to his staff was very exciting and he was greatly looking forward to bringing in new coaches with fresh ideas and perspectives.

Thanks for the write up.

I'll sign up for (at least) one 'super duper' recruiting specialist

He'll be back. He needs to round out his resume anyway. Best of luck Macky.

Macky has already updated his Twitter profile to show he's the RB coach at Kent State.

From a tw0-year graduate asst coach on offense at SU to RB coach. Not bad for a guy who didn't play RB.
Good lucky to Macky.

Nothing more I would love to see then Macky become hc of su football down the road he’s definitely been taken under the right wing of coach’s
